It's a manga that's been running for 20+ years now, and it's pretty incredible. One of the things that's most interesting about it, is that the author has basically reinvented himself in his style several times throughout the series, while still keeping it true to its roots. During the first 10 volumes (referred to collectively as the "Golden Age" arc), it's basically gritty 80s style manga of purely dark medieval warfare, becoming borderlined historical fiction. but in volumes 11-12+ literally hell opens up and pours itself onto earth evil dead style but in a completely serious manner. Over the next ~5 volumes you have every bit of bad in his world corrupted and risen to full blown demonic rape-fests; corrupt priests burning everyone at the stake, packs of roving goblins kidnapping women, raping and impregnating them to make more monsters, an evil god-emporer who tries to take over the world etc. It then turns into a traditional swords/sorcery fantasy where Guts assembles a team of rag-tag heroes to destroy the five God Hands of hell, one of whom was his best friend and rival during the Golden Age.

The Kushan sucks ass. It's a completely unnecessary journey. Just a filler.

Matter of fact, I think the story should have ended after the sacrifice. Guts dies, Casca stays with Griffith, and that's it.

>Golden Age >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Anything else.

...

Golden Age was pretty good, but if it ended there we wouldn't have gotten Lost Children.

Also that ending would have Guts "losing," even though he's an anti-hero, he's still our protag.
Although in the Berserk universe, Griffith is considered the good guy here, but we as the audience know it isn't so.

...

You just wanted to see the loli witch and berserk armor.

I believe tragedy is a perfect ending to any story.

>Griffith
>good guy

It sucks ass how he is seen as a savior. I hope the story is continued soon. Earlier than 20+ years hopefully

I think loli witch is nice, she does an okay job at being the contrast to Guts that Puck used to be before he turned into a comic relief character, but the part of the story with her in it isn't my favorite. Lost Children is before her/berserker armor. I still think that part is good, just not as good as LC/Golden Age.

I agree in that tragedy is a very powerful tool in storytelling, I'm a big fan of it.
However, I think the Eclipse came off as more shocking tragedy than the despondent/dark tragedy of Lost Children.

It's understandable, Griffith brought many different people together and protected them from the monsters. Albeit, the monsters he helped bring in.
He shielded everyone from the danger he caused.

End of Chapter 228 and end of dump for tonight

Thanks for dumping. Sleep well.

I seem to have completely forgotten what happens during the lost children arc.

My pleasure, sleep tight!

Lost Children was where Guts stumbles across a village, then these humanoid bug/fairies attack, Guts goes to find them along with a village girl, Jill. Later on it's revealed that the bug things are actually human children that were transformed. Guts kill a lot of them and burns them, they also revert back into children.
Then Guts fights Rosine, the Apostle.
What I got out of it was a theme of innocence lost, since it was largely about horrible things happening to children.
Rather depressing, but it hit me hard.

holy shit dude how long have you been doing this?I've been following these threads since 2-3 years ago.and wheres GaNi?lol

i mean.. ZeRo

It's been ~4 years and 4 months now.
Here's to 4 more!

ZeR0's still active, is here over half the time, we still talk most days sometimes out of thread. He's been doing well, stick around another day or two and he's bound to show up.

Glad to see another long-term fan of the Daily Berserk Threads, it's always nice.

how days does it take to go through a run through, thereabouts?

There's 347 chapters and I do 2 chapters a night, so 174 threads.
I miss about a thread a week or so, so about 6 and a half months give or take.

that timeline sounds about right, been following since junior year of HS.now sophmore in uni goddamn time flies so fast.Miura is coming back from hiatus this month.really good news. I can't wait to see what happens to casca next chapter

Sounds about the same, I started Sophomore year of HS, now Sophomore year at Uni.

Same, it was nice to get a chapter a month last year, and we should be returning to that release schedule when the next chapter comes out.
Casca better get her ass healed.

yea I bet.And that godawful anime is coming back in april as well.

Indeed, they coincide.
At least they got Hirasawa to do the music again, that made it enjoyable enough for me to like it.
