But on Sup Forums of all places this is pretty evidently real. There's literally thousands of posters here that refuse to act how they 'should' (NEETdom - despite the shitposting most NEETs realise that they're a hindrance to society, I reckon), and for many a large part of it seems to go with a perception that the world or society (Gendo) is treating them unfairly and they don't/won't/can't/shan't behave in a responsible way in return. Shinji was just a boy that was suddenly thrust into the position of saving the world, which is way more stressful and serious than something like working a 9 to 5 job all your life. If the average 4channer (or more /r9k/-inclined 4channer at least) were to be suddenly put in Shinji's position I think we'd see something extremely similar. Hell even beyond Sup Forums, maybe even most introspective people would act like that
