Is there a big difference between an i5 intel core processor vs. an i7? If the price difference is only $100 should I just go with the i7? pls Sup Forums

the intel pentium 4 is enough dont fall for the i7 meme.

Depends on what you need it for. Also there are some i5's that are better than some i7's so it isn't simply bigger number = better

also

If you're only using it for games, get an i5

The difference is hyperthreading, which can be worth it if the developers of the software that you're using added support for it - Get a Ryzen desktop.

the laptop I want comes with either an i5 or an i7. I just want to know if the i7 makes that much of a difference.

If you can afford it then yeh, go for it. It's nice to be able to comfortably run a few things at once without taking a performance hit to any of them. And while it's usually only a matter of a few frames many games, even GPU bound ones, will perform better with some faster cores.

If you can't afford it then the i5's generally make excellent gaming CPU's.

Depends on if you're using it for gaming or work.

If its gaming stick with an i5 and use the money on a better GPU (otherwise use it for eight balls and hookers).

If you need it for CAD or stuff that needs computation power get the i7.

It depends on the actual cpu. i5 and i7 are just product lines that refer to a variety of cpus. That being said the i5's tend to be more than enough for general use like a laptop. i7s are enthusiast chips that are overkill for facebook and Netflix

Oh shit, if it's a mobile version intel then absolutely go with the i7. Fuck those mobile i5's man.

It's only worth it if you really need it, like if you run virtual machines.

Games rely much more on the GPU.

I might just go with the i7. I might game a little but i'm mostly gonna use a lot of different programs (fl studio, autocad, vegas pro 14, and some other shit)

A Ryzen might be a bit of an overkill for me. If I was a le epic quickskope gamer girrl :3 than I would

>FL Studio
>Vegas Pro
>Gamer Girrrl
Tit plz

AMD always overpromises and underdelivers, especially when you consider over 90% of games are optimized to run on Intel CPUs.

Not to mention AMD CPU's always run hot and require a larger investment into heatsinks.

Absolutely. If it's a laptop with a mobile version processor and you want to use it for those tasks then i7 is the only way. It will also mean the machine stays relevant performance wise longer than the i5, so there's that.

I only use Intel for my personal systems, but to be fair their new line up is actually amazing for the cost if used for their intended purpose. As a strictly gaming CPU obviously they're gona be shit, it's 8 fucking cores 16 threads. However if you're a streamer, editor, or generally use many cores and are on a budget then currently they are the best you can get unless Intel gets their pricing more competitive.

If you use any program with CAD in it you're going to need all the processing power you can get, so the i7 is the way to go.

Also, TITS OR GTFO. Nothing personal, just the standard response for any 'woman' posting on here.

AMD delivers, it's your shill develops who let Intel cuck them

Basic CAD no, most programs don't split into multiple threads, so speed is clock regulated

Simulations, FEA/FEM, Rendering,...
Get i7 for the multithreading (80% time gain)
