Start with Cidade de Deus.

I saw this Brazilian movie at a local film festival once that was basicallh softcore porn.

Is that the only literally good movie from Brazil?

Or is it just a meme?

well, i liked ugly betty in it's original

Soy Cuba

oh man i should let you continue to be an idiot; it's not my job to correct you.

but: jodorowsky.

Was it the one with Xuxa?

Literally who?

Oh i see, a spic that abandoned his shithole and is now living in France.

tropa de elite and tropa de elite 2 are top tier operator kino

"El secreto de sus ojos" I suppose

>tfw You think you've stumbled upon a good Latin American movie, but it's actually from Portugal/Spain

>It's an OP being a pleb episode

I bet you can't even read subtitles and you need to wait for Hollywood to make remakes of foreing films for you

Tropa de Elite
Wild Tales
Deathstalker

>Tropa de Elite

Watch Glauber Rocha movies (Terra em Transe; Deus e o Diabo na Terra do Sol). They are great. For horror, there is Zé do Caixão (À Meia-Noite Levarei Sua Alma; Esta Noite Encarnarei no Teu Cadáver; Encarnação do Demônio).

A lot lately, thou its better if you don't know about it.

...

Entranced Earth (Terra em Transe)
Embrace the Serpent
No
El Club
The Promise Keeper (O Pagador de Promessas)
O Deus e o Diabo na Terra do Sol
Pixote
Neighboring Sounds
Boi Neon
Cidade dos Homens (a "sequel" to Cidade de Deus)
Bus 174
Barravento
A Idade da Terra
Black Orpheus (made by a french guy, but it's in portuguese, has brazilian actors, is shot in Brazil and is based on a brazilian play by Vinicius de Moraes).

Btw, Brazil has GOAT musicians, that was our greatest medium for a formidable period.

Cidade dos Homens is not technically a sequel.

Tiempo de Valientes is an argentinian film made by 20th Century Fox and its pure cop buddies kino.

All of them are

That's why I used "sequel", because it's not technically a sequel.

the motorcycle diaries is pretty good

Central Station as well.

Tropa de Elite? Not sure if it's actually good though, don't remember much of it. The sequel wasn't great.

It is pretty good

You're on a film discussion board and don't know who Jodorowsky is?

fucking this

Nothing that reaches the rest of the world.

This and Elite Squad desu

this obvs

Yeah, no, not yet.
Brazil, for example, invest heavy buck only on things like soap operas and shows shaped like Ellen, studio personalities, everything else bombs there.

Aside from city of god and elite squad, all else is too brazilian for an outsider to enjoy, a rip off of some american comedy, or just plain bad.

They write some great books, 'tho.

martian-kino

>The last outpost of the white Christian race
>shithole

Wew lad.

>Thread about South America
>Only mentions of Argentina and Brazil

Gigante (imdb.com/title/tt1360866/) and Perro Come Perro (imdb.com/title/tt1157631/) are two great movies that I know of.

show me one good Guyana movie I'll wait

max payne 3?

...

Soy Cuba's director was Soviet and Cuba isn't shown in green in the OP's map.

...

This holy fuck if you haven't seen this you should leave Sup Forums

What's some essential huekino other than City of God?

Coffin Joe?

Coffin Joe

The film adaptation of Love and other demons (the novel by gabriel garcia marquez) is GOAT.
Gueros is a nice film i saw lately, there is a film from argentina (i think its called Sidewalls?) and its a beaaaaaaast.

>Terra em Transe
>Orfeu
>Elite Squad
>City of God
>Carandiru
>Wasteland
>Embodiment of Evil

Argie here

We only talk about Argentine stuff so you won't probably understand them

If you want a regular kino made by Argies and filmed in Argentina watch Jauja

That movie is American, or Mexican at most

Some very big butted trannies come from here, I'm okay with it.

South America can be such a beautiful paradise if it wasn't for all the cockroaches that fucking infest it. In my dreams, I'd love to vacate a majority of its populace and turn that continent around.

where are you from, faggot

this desu. the continent itself (not to mention the RC inspired architecture) is fucking beautiful

narcos

Guyanas are french so fuck off

It's really good actually. Shows the rise and urbanization of Rio de Janeiro and how the stories of several people. It shows how their stories diverge, intersect, and then re-converge and affect each other's. It's some good shit.

japan

I see people mentioning Jodorowsky here. Did he produce his films in SA?

O Cheiro Do Ralo, O Bandido da Luz Vermelha, Neighboring Sounds are all good
this
As a start Aquarius had a very positive response at Cannes this year. But City Of God is fucking perfect, Meirelles won't ever top himself.

O filme do Papaco

Every Ricardo Darin movie is good. Check his imdb page.

br here

"meu nome não é johnny" (my name isn't johnny) is a good brazilian movie

Thank god murricans don't like our cinema. If our films were in any way profitable in the foreign market we'd be making capeshit nonstop.

Dois Coelhos Parte Dois

do they even have cameras in south america? I thought it was like jungles and shit with tribes down there

>Dois Coelhos
I'm not hue, I'm from the south cone. And you're proving my point: Brazil being the big market it is, lends itself to this kind of shit. The more ṕlebs int he country, the shittier the cineme industry gets.

we only have pinholes

I'm Brazilian but i agree, well, kinda.
As an arts student i have to say we do have lots of good stuff going on but it's mainly shown on festivals and whatnot and usually don't get major releases on normal theaters, that's reserved to shit comedy trash from Globo.
As i said above, all i've seen for the latest Kleber Mendonça Filho film reception was positive internationally, but i'm 99% sure it won't get released in lots of theaters and shit (Even with laws in Brazil that defend the right for 10% of nacional movies in theaters).

Objectively wrong.
Memories of underdevelopment (cuban, but best Nouvelle Vague of them all)
Vidas Secas
The secret in their eyes
The hour of furnaces
Black god white devil
Sugar cane alley
Los Olvidados if you count mexico
Que Viva mexico! if soviets count
Soy Cuba if soviets count

Nah, they have electricity.

They just started using IBM computers and playing the NES. Maybe next year they'll finally get the Sega Genesis.

>want to see movies
>no singles policy at every cinema in town

why does America hate me so much?

nope. neither books, music or science.

El Chapulin Colorado is cape-kino

>music

Autismo virgin detected: opinion discarded.

>Science

A brazilian literally invented the airplane ;)

Amor extraño Amor

negros srsly this is the Godfather of our times check it

To be fair, nothing ever of worth has been created in South America.

That's Mexican, not South American.

...

>he doesn't watch drug kino soap opera
youtube.com/watch?v=oXrJ39kVpCM

#BoicoteAquarius was also a bad marketing for their movie, and SBT (the most right-wing channel on BR TV) basically fucked the movie. Boi Neon didn't have a large distribution nor did Que Horas Ela Volta?, besides that, 90% of brazilians don't even know who Glauber Rocha, Anselmo Duarte are.

>the Godfather of our times
>not there will be blood
laughing my ass off to be honest
