Im sure most of b has heard of the most recent youtube controversy

im sure most of b has heard of the most recent youtube controversy
but for those who haven't, heres a tldr

>400 hours of video uploaded to youtube every minute
>cus of the metric shit ton of content
>its impossible to stop some ads from playing on "offensive" videos
>kkk, terrorism, porn, that kind of shit
>250+ companies have pulled their ads from the site
>verizon, at&t, starbucks, pepsico, walmart, etc

this is a lot of money lost for youtube

basically, I was wondering if you guys know of any specific videos/channels
that most people would consider offensive, where ads are running

cus I want to message as many advertisers as possible
and scare them into pulling their ads off the platform too

here's an example link if interested

theguardian.com/technology/2017/mar/17/youtube-and-google-search-for-answers

OP here

a longer list of advertisers who've pulled ads from youtube and/or google
(a couple of them have only pulled ads in certain countries)

>AT&T
>Audi
>Johnson and Johnson
>Loreal
>Marks and Spencer
>Mcdonalds
>Pepsico
>Publicis
>Renault
>Starbucks
>Tesco
>Toyota
>UK government
>Walmart
>Verizon
>Volkswagen

no user
the trick is to not give them the offensive shit because then youtube can remove it and advertisers will stay because there's less of a chance that their ad will play on an offensive video
dumb fuck
we need to really get rid of the monopoly youtube holds as a video platform

I'd assume you're a troll but I've wondered about this as well

I was under the impression that videos only show up on videos that were posted or claimed by a partner? And I saw an article that said David Duke was making money off you tube? Surely youtube doesnt partner with david duke?

In that case shouldn't we be uploading gore/porn and monetizing them? The more videos that are linked to the sort of thing the worse the situation becomes...

how could I be trolling?
this is a massive news story

google has already promised to hire more people and improve the algorithms to find offensive content
but if we can get the advertisers off now, they'll take a much bigger hit to their revenue

if we can get enough major companies to pull out, the few remaining will probably pull out as well
cus otherwise they'll be in the minority of advertisers who are "supporting extremism" or whatever

>we need to really get rid of the monopoly youtube holds as a video platform
THIS!!! Google has way too big monopoly. It must be broken down and example Twitch has been doing great job doing this with gamer community's live streams. Gamers choose Twitch over YouTube in live streams and that's a good start.

ALSO FUCK OFF OP! Sup Forums IS NOT YOUR PERSONAL ARMY!

that would be good, yes.
but as soon as you've been caught uploading offensive stuff a few times,
they'll just prevent ads from running on your channel altogether

easier to take advantage of the masses of offensive content already being uploaded as we speak

I'm the one doing most of the work tho

all I want to know is if anyone knows some offensive videos running ads

Why exactly would you guys want to hurt youtube? If you don't like youtube..use vid.me or daily motion. Youtube is a great service

Also google makes no money on youtube already you really aren't going to hurt them. The most you will do is make them crack down and make youtube like the disney channel

and to the person who listed twitch as a good thing

lmao what the fuck nigger you cant do ANYTHING on there with out getting banned. Twitch is garbage

because if we can force youtube to crack down extremely hard on anything offensive
that'll piss a lot of content creators and users off, making them leave the site

then there'll be room in the market for other less restrictive video services to take market share

right now youtube has too much power

But who decides what's offensive? Example for Saudi Arabia women driving cars is offensive. For far-left everybody who doesn't subscribe to group think and Marxism is offensive. For far-right everybody who doesn't subscribe to ultra Nationalism is offensive.

Who decides what's offensive and what's not? Is criticism offensive? What about certain words? What about certain thoughts?

You realize when you think about this that it's not as easy as it sounds. I could example think that some Middle-Eastern countries would use lobbies to remove or suppress everything that openly criticizes them, their human rights and their societies...

THIS!!!

youtube has no competition and no motivation to improve anywhere
companies NEED competition to keep them in line and that is not happening here.

samefag

of course the word "offensive" is too ambiguous

but there are still certain things that most people find abhorrent
in particular on youtube

>terrorism
>calling one particular group of people inferior
>violence
>overly sexual content
>overly vulgar content

no one is actually offended by the videos,
but advertisers are desperate to avoid being associated with this kind of stuff

samefag

That's really stupid user... The only think this will accomplish is make youtube **ever more** slanted toward shit like markiplier.. If someone like a leafy left.. who cares? I'd have to be a real real hard core fan to go to another site to watch his shit. Having all your videos on one site is easy and better.

If you really wanted to effect change the current sites to do searches for video suck. Make a better one that embeds videos and maybe that would pull people away from youtube

vid.me, daily motion, vimeo??

Actually, I think hes put it on hold because his legal issues got worse but Kim Dotcom (did megaupload) was really hyping what sounded like it could take youtube on a run for its money

exactly!
if we can force google to become extremely restrictive with:

what content is allowed on the site
people will shout censorship (which it is)
and jump ship

or what content is allowed to run ads
this massively reduces their revenue
and forces content creators with "offensive" content onto other less restrictive platforms

oy vey user the people who monetize videos are already under a very strong family friendly policy.... I'm sure you already heard you favorite youtubers complain about this a few months ago when there was the last youtube drama..

The videos they are talking about in these articles are like... random videos on the out skirts of the site with few viewers...

i.e. videos about suicide or eating disorders already get "demonetised". Youtube isnt going to get any more strict with what it moneties from "youtubers" it will just get more strict with whats on the outskirts... not a win for anyone

Again. Where starts "vulgar" content and where does it stop? Or is it "vulgar" for some and not for all. If YouTube really wants to make good cencorship they should do it like this:

1. remove violence (zero policy on violence)
2. remove calling for violence
3. separate YouTube and YouTube Kids from each other (now YouTube Kids shows videos from YouTube which are filtered by content category and ratings)
4. DO NOT SUPPRESS ANY OTHER CRITICISM! CRITICISM FILTERS BAD THOUGHTS AND BAD IDEAS! (once you start to censor things sides in every issue become unbalanced and future censorship becomes easier and soon you find yourself with echo chamber)

don't you understand?
they're already working towards having politically correct content

their "advertiser friendly" guidelines are so vague,
"controversial or sensitive topics"

this is already their goal

good on you for cherrypicking the worst youtuber ever
yeah no shit nobody will follow him, but what about people like:

>Philip Defranco (His videos are regularly being demonetized for mentioning "sensitive topics"
>RT News
>Milo
>Paul Joseph Watson
>Infowars
>Rebel Media
>Pat Condell
>Sargon of Akkad
>Amazing Atheist
>Shoeonhead
>Undoomed
>Mr Repzion

and a metric ton of other news channels

>(His videos are regularly being demonetized for mentioning "sensitive topics"
and you think you are going to be able to make youtube MORE restrictive then how you perceive Phillip Defranco is getting it?

lmao this is the dumbest shit I ever heard. All those people are free to move over to any other platform...or host the videos on their own site. If youtube cracked down more... they would still be there... making videos of them walking around down town and sipping lattes

Like i dont even understand you end goal. you want to get your favorite youtubers banned?

Also I picked parkiplier because he is popular and santized. This is what youtube will go towards

If you add all the people up on your list TOGETHER..they still get less views then markiplier

I didn't write a complete list of every single YouTuber who discusses this stuff, but I see your point

But, at the moment YouTube is trying to expand its audience from mostly kids and young teens, to people aged 18-34
Most people in the latter demographic dont WANT sanitized / kid friendly entertainment

Look at the most popular TV shows of the last decade

>Game of Thrones
>Empire
>Westworld
>Breaking
>Orange is the new black
>Arrow
>Better call saul
>Black Mirror

People older than 18 tend not to watch overly kid-friendly content

So making YouTube into a kid-friendly place will drive those 18-34 year olds away

>So making YouTube into a kid-friendly place will drive those 18-34 year olds away

You're right... But advertisers shy away from adult stuff. And youtube is meant to make money so they will stay in the region where advertisers are willing to go..... You'll note that Game of Thrones is allowed to do what they do because there are no advertisers. It's subscription they can do whatever they want.

But just like cable TV had been largely kid friendlyized for the longest time (or radio)

It never drove a max exodous to paid services like XM Radio or HBO that killed cable / radio

(the internet is doing that because its free)

duke's videos aren't offensive in the slightest, it's not like he's posting kkk rallies on there.

I've never watched them but it was listed in one of the articles I read about the topic.

Also I'd imagine your idea of what is offensive is different then many other peoples.. But either way I think the advertisers would be mad at having their ad's near the world most famous racist/antisemite

This is why late stage capitalism has a problem with free speech and ultimatley the govt. To be fair, there is a difference between
>hate speech
and
>free speech.

I think that line is starting to unblur a little bit with all this internet stuff, as most things do over time. Free speech is a thing but that doesn't mean there aren't consequences for doing or saying racist/incinderary things. At the very least, corps will protect the image of their brand by not appearing on such things.

People will still use youtube. Fucking daily. That will only change when something better comes along, something as convienent, familar etc.

It's the wild west days of the internet rn, But that is all going to start changing.

What's "offensive" is YouTube content creators countering the corporate and MSM lies and bullshit with truth, facts, and alternate perspective.

LOL, did you really think that AT&T gives a flying fuck about you showing your ass crack in a video?

but TV is full of vulgar sexual and violent content?

mmm it is? cable TV? You're right though in that people care much less about violence then they used to.

TBH i guess this is a silly discussion though. I have an american perspetive

I'm told in other countries they have always had tittys and shit on t.v.

Good, fuck ads. No one watches them anyway cause of adblocker.

This whole thing will blow over and the companies will return to advertise their products. It's fucking YouTube. Are they just not going to advertise on the internet? They'll be back because it pays to be there.

what are a few shows that are on cable TV that are full of what you consider to be vulgar sexual content?

just wondering

...

well I don't live in the US so I wouldn't know exactly

but where I live, Two and a Half Men plays pretty regularly
you're telling me most content on cable tv is "advertiser friendly" by youtubes standards?
