Name a better sci-fi/horror Film

Name a better sci-fi/horror Film.

>inb4 Alien
Look, Alien is a great movie. But at the end of the day, like John Carpenter says, it's still just a guy in a rubber suit. Plus Event Horizon is relentlessly dark and has no redemption for its human characters which I like. Also it remains untainted by a string of shitty sequels that have to belabor everything that was dark and mysterious about the original.

Sphere

John Carpenter's the Thing

Yeah maybe but the The Thing isn't in space which pisses me off

Ok. But you realize it doesn't have to be in space to be scifi right?

>remains untainted by a string of shitty sequels that have to belabor everything that was dark and mysterious about the original.

This is not really a fault with Alien though. You can blame James Cameron for that.
I consider Alien the greatest sci-fi/horror film but all the sequels fucking suck nigger balls and that includes Aliens

>earth isn't in space

>violence against women
gross

>it doesn't have to be in space to be scifi
Well yeah of course I just would really prefer it was in space

>"""dimension""" of pain
Why not a universe devoted to the feeling of being itchy?

Stupid movie desu.

>he hates aliens
>and based jc

I was told repeatedly that this movie was dogshit but there have been quite a few positive mentions of it here recently

Is it worth a watch? I'd generally consider alien to be my favourite film of all time so I do like sci-fi horror, I guess.

Pretty good but it can't beat Avatar

This is the only true answer.

>Subtle spoonfeeding thread
Get fucked

>implying I said I hate James Cameron
>implying Aliens doesn't suck ass through a straw
>implying taking the greatest horror movie monster of all time and turning him into a bullet sponge is a good thing

not the guy you're replying to but Cameron - as much as I like a lot of hist stuff - can suck a fat cock for Aliens.

Not only did it shaft the chances of a RS directed sequel - which you KNOW would have been great, because this was top-tier Ridley years - but it basically paved the way for "successful film? ship in different director for sequel and push it towards mainstream genre" which is a fucking cancer that still persists horribly today.

Fuck you nigger I've seen them all anyway

You could always just watch it and form your own opinion, nobody can really judge if it's worth a watch for you.

I think EH had the POTENTIAL to be as good as Alien, but Anderson hacked it to shreds. It was no better directed than a shitty b-movie that costs $50K to make.

And saying Alien is somehow diminished by it's sequels is a dumbass thing to say. Your opinion is invalid.

The kids in school who liked Event Horizon also liked Slipknot and katanas.

You probably like Dark City, too.

Holy shit, I was watching it when I found this thread.

I like a lot of his stuff too but man fuck him for making Aliens.
Giger and his Xenomorph didn't deserve that.

Dark City

>implying Dark City is that bad.

The ending is stupid as fuck but it has good moments.

I have a horribly time consuming job and a lot of shit on my plate. It's hard for me to justify a film unless some fuccboi on Sup Forums has at least taken the time to rave about it like an autist.

I don't like horror movies but I liked this movie.

I liked how the danger of the situation wasn't predicated on characters being assholes to one another. Everyone was just trying to make the best of a shitty situation in their own way.

I watched it recently in high quality on a proper TV, can confirm it looks like shit and has not aged well at all. Still my favorite movie 2bdesu

Good lord, this film needed a darker end to match the tone of the rest of it. You can't make a sci-fi noir film and then give it a happy ending.

>traveling in the warp without a Gellar field like fucking noobs

Deserved what they got desu

OP here so I just finished watching Event Horizon and now I'm literally gonna watch The Thing right now. Honestly it is probably a better movie but if it was in space it would be so much fucking cooler.

Everyone knows Event Horizon is absolute shit outside of this pocket of plebs on Sup Forums. Deal with it.

You weren't watching it if you were browsing 4chinz.

The ending is downright saccharine.
Completely betrays the entire tone of the movie and it's such fucking bullshit too.

I think there are several but I like this movie a lot. I think I have only 2 substantial complaints with it

first, the CG is bad even for the time it was made. unfortunate because it would have made scenes like where they turn on the artificial gravity much better. on the other hand, the props and sets are pretty top knotch so maybe they make up for this.

second, they should have taken the horror and gore even further, or made it more abstract and experimental. "psychotic alternate pain universe that is maybe Hell" ends up just being you get some barbed wire wrapped around you, and that's a bit underwhelming and too familiar.

It's so popular because it's one of the few examples of hard sci fi horror that doesn't completely shit itself.

It's the 6 in the bar that bumps up to 8 when surrounded by 2s.

>Slipknot and katanas

Hell raiser 2

Europa Report was pretty cool.

Is WH40k the single most edgy, fedora shit ever created?

Everything about it screams I'M 14 AND HAVE JUST DISCOVERED METAL

>disliking the god emperor
That's how I know you are what you described

Dune is good. Warhammer is a shitty teen ripoff.

would be GOAT but the comic relief nigger ruins the movie. There is literally no argument against this statement it is objectively true.

>fans and creators all understand that it's intentionally over the top and GRIMDARK and have fun with it
>some asshole comes along and thinks that he's hyper intelligent for noticing that it's over the top and GRIMDARK

Go to /tg/ any day of the week and tell me everyone there takes it as parody and satire.

Also being shit intentionally is hardly an excuse for being shit.

comic relief negros were legally required to be in horror movies in the late 90's

Cannon fodder, not bullet sponge. Bullet sponge implies it takes a lot to kill it.

Nobody remembers when the Emperor looked like pic related

yeah, but it was before Metal was mainstream so it's one of the few Legit I JUST DISCOVERED METAL tier awesomeness.

It's like doom, but still popular, but then again SO IS DOOM.

>stop liking what I don't like
>no fun allowed

I'm going to like it. And there's nothing you can do about it.

>But at the end of the day, like John Carpenter says, it's still just a guy in a rubber suit.

Yeah and everything takes place on a set and everything is fake. What's his fucking point?

The thing or Alien.

Day of the Triffids is very good too but it's more of a personal scary because the idea of going blind seems like the worst thing ever to me.

The Thing is far superior. But hell, even Pandorum is better than Event Horizon.

Fuck you

I read on imdb that the director first used pornstars for the death orgy scenes and they were much more violent and erotic, but the fucking normie test audiences didn't like the gore, so most of it was removed, and the footage was thrown out, as deleted scenes and other extras weren't a thing back then.

>try to show anyone I know anything these days
>end up just turning it off because they refuse to get off their phones and aren't actually watching

I just stopped trying, they and I are both happier for it
/blog

>80% of everybody dies pointlessly and unceremoniously whenever anything fucking happens in the setting.
>Main, secondary and even tertiary characters are always immune to this.
>In fact, outside of books listing pointless statistics, none of these deaths or their consequences are ever described.

Not telling you to stop, just letting you know that we're laughing at you.

Have a good night, user.

Nah bro we're laughing at you shitposting to hate on someone for liking something you don't ;)

>i was born after the year 2000

Dead Space

You asked for a better sci fi horror movie and The Thing is it, retard. You should have specified space horror movie.

> string of shitty sequels
Did you mean one that was arguably better than the original and one and two that were kind of bad? Yeah good try good try

The thing is that there a large differences between the situation. It's similar to predator. The enemy itself is not amazingly armed, in fact the ship crew probably could have killed the xenomorph if they were prepared and in an open area. But they had neither. Aliens was tight but long hallways and some large areas were the aliens are visible. It does take from the immersion slightly but the Alien crew had an intensely pinned situation but Aliens is that is was turned into intensely pinned.

Event Horizon is a 90 minute nu metal music video.

The only good thing Paul WS Anderson ever did was Milla Jovovich. Which is more than enough for one lifetime, so good for him, but his movies are shit.

>What's his fucking point?
Well he's specifically talking about the effects in The Thing and how they wanted to do a monster movie that wasn't just a guy in a suit

>"""dimension""" of pain
It was Hell. Are you really this dense or just pretending?

...

>lemon juice

Which is the one that's better than the original? It's been a long time since I last saw the alien movies.

>they didn't watch the director's cut

Prometheus

The Thing, Prince Of Darkness, Alien, Scanners, From Beyond, Bad Taste, The Fly, '78 Bodysnatchers.

Off the top of my head.

This.

Event Horizon is goofy fun, but it's also kind of shit.

I was more scared by 2010 than any moment in Event Horizon.

Event Horizon is almost as almost good as Sunshine

Europa Report was mostly almost good.

ER > S > EH

event horizon is mediocre

>there are people that actually think Event Horizon is the pinnacle of something, anything
wew

Event Horizon has a lot of good concepts but it fails in execution, it hits all the generic 90s cheap horror tropes and has horrendous "comedic" relief shit in it.

Some of the plot points, effects, and sets are good but they fail to elevate the movie enough to make it more than mediocre.

How exactly would 8/10th of their crew die if the shields held?

I talked to someone that knows 40K and they said this was the Warp Travel pic was biggest load ever. That it hella exaggerated even for 40K.

>how about something black and hot?
>no
>then how about some coffe?
True kino

>Listen up doc. I'm your best friend, ok? I'm the lifesaver and the heartbreaker.

>shitting on Alien

pligga neez

you're memeing right? please tell me you're memeing.

europa report was utter dogshit and I'd be personally concerned with anyone's mental and physical health of they found any part of that movie good. i hope you're okay and just memeing, if not... please seek help.

>in 5th grade when this movie came out
>we're studying space at the moment and the teacher asks what we think this movie is about
>everyone starts giving something about it being an educational movie that teaches about event horizons
>I say the commercial made it look like a guy killing people in a space station
>they all look at me like I have no idea what I'm talking about

Nah, that poster is right. It was cool and a nice watch. Stop being dramatic

What about Screamers?

I feel this had the makings of a great film, they just went on the cheap for production value.

How does anyone in 5th grade even know what an Event Horizon is?

Is this pic soposta be talking about warhammer or ops movie or both? I'm confused please elaborate

If Event Horizon had been directed by a competent director, it could have been top tier. As it is now, it's a good film. But not great.

I can think of dozens of better scifi films

By having interests? Christ, people become 'adults' and then think that every teenager or child is a complete drooling retard

I was in 6th grade when i saw it at movies

Catholic Space Nazis. I'm pretty sure the people who created wh40k originally were closet white power types.

It was big before the laughable mess that is metal went mainstream as well, so they had to specifically create an even more edgy bunch of hardcore edgemaster deluxes to appeal to that demographic, pic related, this is not a joke it is canon

It's pretty much text book example of cult classic in everything except budget, it's bit too expensive for that. Scifi movie that was destroyed by critics that usually hate entire genre, but has since then managed to find fanbase and better reviews than on initial release. It never even got cinematic release in most countries.

Not exactly best movie ever or proper classic, but still decent movie and better than it's reputation.

>Is WH40k the single most edgy, fedora shit ever created?

It's parody that some people took too seriously.

>Warhammer is a shitty teen ripoff.

It doesn't even fucking pretend to be anything but blatant high fantasy ripoff in space.

it has its problems. sam neill is a confused victim at the start of the film, but about halfway through he becomes the all-knowing master of ceremonies.

Sphere is pretty underrated, imo. It manages to be creepy and atmospheric and at no point does an alien jump out at you.

okay there's the one snake fish thing but it's not real

i am going to watch it with Dethklok playing in the background.

>80's 40k
>Not a joke
Anyone who doesn't understand 40K was tongue in cheek is deluded.
Has it started to lose some of that self awareness? Yes, to its detriment.

lol interstellar was better than this and it was shit

>europa report was utter dogshit
how so? it was very atmospheric

>I was in 6th grade when i saw it at movies
explains why you are here
