AOTYSF Thread

I haven't listened to a single album that has come out in 2017. Post the albums worth listening to from this year so far.

Not the best year, but all of these are worth a listen

I think there's another thread already but I think that one's about dead so I guess it's fine. These are my favorites this year so far.

riffs

What kind of music do you like? So people can rec you shit from this year.

Not op, but what are some good neo-psych/shoegaze recs?

Klozapin- portal b is right up that alley

neo-psych:
Tonstartssbandht - Sorcerer
Sundays & Cybele - Chaos & Systems
Pond - The Weather

Only good shoegaze I've heard this year is Eye Candy - Cerebrotonia

Like indie stuff, I guess
I also really like prog-ish stuff, I'm not sure how to put that into words

What's the name of 1st column 4th row and the one next to it and the naked lady? Also what do you rec the most out of these?

A lot of people would disagree with me here, but I believe that Father John Misty's new album Pure Comedy is very well made and self aware. I think that it gets a bit too much flak and deserves a few more listens for it to "click", if you are interested.

A highlight of 2017 for me, at least.

Who are some of your favorite artists?

Here's a few good indie-type albums I've heard:
Methyl Ethel - Everything is forgotten
Pond - The Weather
Pom Poms - Turn You Out
Shadow Band Wilderness of Love
St. Kitts Royal Orchestra - Isadora
Slowdrive - s/t
The Vacant Lots - Endless Nights
Ty Segall - s/t (he has two but one came out this year)
Feist - Pleasure
Ulver - The Assassination of Julius Caesar

Not sure what kinda prog-ish stuff you meant so not sure on that one

These were all enjoyable/inoffensive at worst
I really liked new Forest Swords

1st column, 4th row is Shadow Band -- Wilderness of Love (good indie folk)
Next to it is Taiwan Housing Project -- Velben Death Mask
Naked lady one is Methyl Ethel -- Everything is forgotten

And I tried to put them in order of favorite to less favorite when you read it row by row. But since I'm not sure what music you like, here's the top row from left to right:

Bastien Keb -- 22.02.85 is really good semi-experimental indie soul/R&B which I loved as someone who doesn't usually like soul/R&B

Kno -- Bones is sound collage instrumental hip-hop

Jacaszek -- KWIATY is great ambient with some singing

Cat Clyde -- Ivory Castanets is kind of country or bluegrass-tinged (I'm someone who doesn't like country usually) indie pop/rock?

Shugo Tokumaru -- Toss is some very solid Japanese indie music with some really weird bits too.

Oh and if you meant out of these as in out of the three you were asking about the names of, I'd put them pretty equally.

Already said Wilderness of Love's genre
Velben Death Mask -- some weird post-punk kinda music
Everything is forgotten -- some really good stuff going from indie pop to rock to post-punk to folk.

...

Thanks man I appreciate it
Bala- Lume sounds really good. I kinda pick up like a modern cross between leftover crack and daughters self titled but with harms way guitar tone kinda?

that Taiwan Housing Project album is a fun one for sure.

checking the NPR stream on this new Jlin album right now, it is great npr.org/2017/05/11/527658691/first-listen-jlin-black-origami

Seconded

...

I haven't listened to:

Mono No Aware
Blanck Mass - World Eater
Colin Stetson - All This I Do For Glory
Forest Swords - Compassion
Ryuichi Sakamoto - async
Bing & Ruth - No Home Of The Mind
Actress - AZD
Tzusing - 東方不敗

which one should I listen to next?

AZD, Mono No Aware, and No Home are all quality projects.

Colin Stetson and Tzusing kinda held back this time on delivering the stellar material they usually put out.

Haven't heard the others yet

Bones came out in 2016, though.

Might as well listen to Humanz

Clap! Clap! - A Thousand Skies. African influenced uk bass, has elements from footwork, house, etc. All the tracks are short which works well for this type of album, really interesting listen.

Brendan Byrnes - Neutral Paradise. Microtonal synthpop, I love it. I'm a big fan of microtonality, this album has some moments of amazing dissonance and it all works so well together. Highly recommend this album.

The Afghan Whigs - In Spades

No Tonemenomicon?

Don't

Die

Jungle is massive

It's a good album but I just find it too monotonous. That said, its high points are absolutely great.

Pleb filters general

this is a track from one of my favourite albums of the year, check it out lads if you're keen on microtonal stuff

Pic related is what is definitely on my list so far.

This is AOTYSF for me, no doubt.

I definitely agree

AOTYSF literally this. J Hus - Common Sense.

One bump from oblivion

first listen of the new mac demarco album, it seems a bit bland. i liked 2 and salad days, but this one seems so less vibrant. does anyone else feel the same?

life changing techno right here.

Tangible Rays - Seance
