THE STATE OF DC FILMS

>The original director, Michelle McLaren ("Breaking Bad"), dropped out due to scheduling conflicts and was replaced by Patty Jenkins ("Monster").

>The original script by Jason Fuchs ("Pan") received a page-one rewrite from Allan Heinberg ("Grey's Anatomy") and Geoff Johns ("Green Lantern") based on a story by Zack Snyder. Heinberg wrote the Wonder Woman comics for a brief period.

>Jenkins claimed the movie is supposed to be very simple and straightforward, without many twists and turns, and emotionally grounded in the love story between Wonder Woman and Steve Trevor.

what's wrong with it?

shit writers

>The script is written by Chris Terrio ("Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice") based on a story by Zack Snyder.

>Snyder is directing the movie under WB's supervision, aiming for a lighter and more upbeat tone. Terrio claims this was always the intention, but Snyder admitted the BvS backlash forced them to change their intended tone.

>The previously announced "Justice League 2" directed by Snyder and slated for 2019 has reportedly been scrapped and Terrio has already indicated he won't return to write it.

>Phil Lord and Chris Miller ("The Lego Movie") were approached to write and potentially direct. They delivered one treatment before leaving to direct "Han Solo: A Star Wars Story" for Disney.

>The original writer/director Seth Grahame-Smith ("Pride and Prejudice and Zombies") dropped out due to creative differences.

>The new director Rick Famuyiwa ("Dope") has been hired because he can "appeal to the teen crowd" and is willing to work with the available script and vision without demanding too many changes, in keeping with the tight schedule.

>Reportedly there are struggles to differentiate the movie from the succesful TV show, which is allegedly using the same main villain and overall storyline.

>Cyborg has been added to the script in a lead role in anticipation of his own prospective solo movie.

>Reportedly it's a "teen-oriented movie" with a "pop tone and aesthetic" and "tongue-in-cheek humor".

>Either lost its release date or is opening against another WB tentpole, "Tomb Raider" starring Alicia Vikander.

>all those changes even before BvS and/or Suicide Squad bad reception
>some people still have faith any of those will actually work

>The original script by Kurt Johnstad ("300") is getting a page-one rewrite from Will Beall ("The Gangster Squad").

>Director James Wan ("The Conjuring") voiced his desire to explore Atlantis' mythology.

>The movie reportedly has a "horror element" to it and might tackle vaguely Lovecraftian imagery about underwater sea monsters.

>trying this hard

The script was also based on Geoff John's pitch

>"Justice League 2" is apparently scrapped.

>"Shazam" has stalled following the hiring of Dwayne Johnson as Black Adam, although it is still slated for 2019. No writers, directors or other actors have been linked to the property, which apparently will be relatively standalone in relation to the DCEU and is aiming for a "fun lighthearted" tone.

>It's unclear whether "Cyborg" will happen at all. It is still slated for 2020, but no writers, directors or actors have been linked to it, and there are numerous rumors it'll be reworked into something else or scrapped.

>"Green Lantern Corps" is still slated for 2020, but no writers, directors or actors have been linked to the project. WB is reportedly hard at work to differentiate it from the 2011 box office flop and is apparently using Kyle Rayner and John Stewart as main Lanterns, with Hal Jordan as an older mentor figure.

>"Justice League Dark" is dead.

>Talks of "Blue & Gold" have stalled after it was announced Greg Berlanti ("The Flash" TV Show) is circling the project.

>"Suicide Squad 2" is reportedly a possibility for 2019/2020. No word on the return of the current cast and crew though Will Smith and Margot Robbie and Viola Davis are confirmed to have multi-picture contracts.

>No word on more standalone Superman movies.

it'll be great to see WB go bankrupt in my lifetime at this rate

Out of all the DCEU films slated for release, the only one that I see getting good reviews is Aquaman. Everything else is either DOA, tampered with, or just mediocre. WB fucked up hard

I unironically love monster. Its pure Kino.

Is it just me or is this lineup just "meh" without Green Lantern or at least Martian Manhunter alongside the rest of them? Green needs some representation, too.

stop spamming your crap marvelcuck

>page on rewrite

What do they mean by this and is it bad that 2 of the next 4 DC movies have it (not including Flash which also has script problems)?

Source?

...

It means the script they were initially working with has been scrapped and will be entirely rewritten.

Doesn't mean it's bad, but if often means it's not good.

>>>It's unclear whether "Cyborg" will happen at all. It is still slated for 2020, but no writers, directors or actors have been linked to it, and there are numerous rumors it'll be reworked into something else or scrapped.
Why would anyone ask for a Cyborg movie? It's like if someone were to ask for a standalone Scarlet Witch film.

This sounds like it could be good.

Shazam could be good if they get another charismatic actor for Captain Marvel and let the leads carry it.

Thanks. I wonder if a page one rewrite ever greatly benefitted a movie.

Brie Larson is playing Captain Marvel though

:^)

What they should do is have the Rock play both Black Adam and adult Captain Marvel. Even if it was a trainwreck people would go see it just to see teh Rock fight himself

The best way to have gone about the DCEU would have been to just have Justice League kickstart the franchise and spawn all of the solo films. A reversal of Marvel if you will.

Honestly yeah you're probably right

That wouldn't have fixed any of the problems the films have been criticized for

Same. But the worst part is that if WW and JL fail, Aquaman is probably not going to happen.

The should've done a stand alone Batman/Joker film. Would've been easier to introduce Joker. Harley Quinn. Amanda. Maybe even one or two more of the suicide squad members.

>Cyborg movie
Just make Steel 2, it would be more profitable
