What am I looking at here?

In the 4th quarter of the Super Bowl with only a few minutes left, Carolina's quarterback dropped the ball, then instead of diving for it, stepped back because he was afraid of getting hurt. It basically cost his team the game.

Out of interest what would have happened if he just kicked it? Seems the most logical thing to do, his foot will clearly get to the ball before the other players hands and bodies, and he is the only one with the momentum in that direction. He could kick it, chase it pick it up and escape..

There are two players who come into the frame from the left, there are more players not in the frame, and there's no guarantee that the Denver linemen wouldn't just knock Newton to the ground before he could start running. In that situation, diving for the ball is pretty much your only option.

But kicking a loose ball is legal?

Daily reminder that Liverpool should have had a penalty in the dying minutes of the game off of that challenge.

Daily reminder that they had a valid goal disallowed at City.

Daily reminder that Etoo should have been off 5 minutes into the game.

Daily reminder that Liverpool were refballed out of the domestic double.

Daily reminder that this means that Stevie's slip was irrelevant, and that he does in fact have a premier league medal.

Technically, no. It's a 10-yard penalty. But would you rather keep the ball but be moved back 10 yards, or lose possession?

The fact that they got twice as many penalties as anyone else thanks to Suarez/Sturridge dives kind of mitigates that

So kicking the ball in football is illegal?

>Dives

Couldn't be because they were scoring tons of goals, right

Guys flop in every sport, B.

Not exactly. Kickers and punters are allowed to kick the ball, in fact that's their entire job. But regular players kicking the ball has been illegal for a while though, because of some controversial play from a while ago that I can't for the life of me remember.

Also, remember that these sports were originally called "football" because they were played on foot (as opposed to on horseback), not because you kicked the ball.

Of course the goals were the main reason, but the fact that they got a ton of penalties helped.

Reminder that you believe this is a sport

It referred specifically to sports played in England on a field.
