Any adultfags here? I'm turning 21 soon and I need to move out, get a job, do adult shit. However I don't know anything about the adult world so I have a few questions.
How much rent do you typically pay for a decent place? Nothing infested with cockroaches, just a clean place with a bathroom, bedroom and kitchen.
How much are bills/taxes? I want very good internet, don't really care about much else, just standard shit.
How much are groceries and food? I don't mind cooking, but how much do you typically pay for groceries?
I'm living in Korea so if there are any koreafags here it would be extra helpful, however I'm taking advice from anyone just because I'm so lost. In exchange I'll share more nudes of this chick

I pay $985 rent here. All utilities are about ~$150 monthly. Internet where I'm at is $30 per month for 40mbps. Brand new apartment. 2br 2 bath.

Not even with 2 part time jobs and a roommate?

Damn, that's way higher than I expected for the rent. How is your place?

Well then draw up a budget based on earnings, expenses, and how much you want to save. Ideally, you don't want to spend more than 1/4 of your monthly earnings on housing.
Where's your dad? Didn't he teach you this? Aren't you asians supposed to be proficient with arithmetic?

Some practical tips: how much you pay for a flat depends entirely on how big it is, where it's located, etc. If this isn't obvious, places in big cities are more expensive, and fancy districts within big cities are more expensive. If you share a flat with a few other people, it'll be cheaper. And it's a nice way to make some new friends. I pay 1000 Euro's a month in rent + utilities, but I have a large flat in a big city (100 square meters, 3 bedrooms).
How much groceries are depends on what you buy. I spend about 400 euros a month on food, but I like to cook nice things. I pay 45 Euros a month for 100 Mbit internet. In Korea it'll probably be cheaper. Taxes depend on how much you make.
Remember OP, this is the fun part of life. The next five years will be difficult because you have to learn a lot, but they will be the best time of your life. It's all downhill from then onward. Make the most of it.

It's in an expensive area. High end. Brand new, we're the first tenants. My GF and I live together so it's not bad. The $985 also includes a garage and the extra $50 per month for our dog.

This thread is what I love about Sup Forums. Some major autismo is asking questions about literally the most basic things in life that everyone knows, and other anons answer those questions patiently like it's the most normal thing in the world.

Where the fuck do you live, for 100 metre squared apartment to be 1000 euro? In Dublin, where I live, you could easily pay 900/month for a 20 square metre apartment

What city? That is really cheap. I live in Organge County, CA and I pay $1100 for a studio in a very old building. Its clean and maintained, but that's about it. Internet is also way more expensive, too, $70 for 25 mbps.

I'm 32 and I work since 10 years. But I'm a french fag tho.
Rent : I pay 650 euros for a decent 50m2. It's in a "medium" city size. You 'll probably pay a bit more where you live. Notice that it's might be hard to find a place, it's a pain in the ass procedure.
I earn 30k / year, and I pay something like 20 or 25% taxes every year. Add electricity, phone and internet bill, and some shit, and I'm at 1200/1300 euros spent every month, including food, see below.
Food : easy, in france anyway : 250euros / month (regular food + restaurant 2 times a week or something)
Hope that's help. ama.

>How much rent do you typically pay for a decent place? Nothing infested with cockroaches, just a clean place with a bathroom, bedroom and kitchen.
some 700-800$/month, double it if having decent furniture and placed near the metro station
>How much are bills/taxes? I want very good internet, don't really care about much else, just standard shit.
assuming you've got a boiler and use the washing-machine every 2 days and do not waste water: a grand total of about 100-150$/month
>How much are groceries and food? I don't mind cooking, but how much do you typically pay for groceries?
currently spending some 80-100 bucks/week, I could save a little but it makes no sense eating shit to save 15$/week
>I'm living in Korea so if there are any koreafags here it would be extra helpful, however I'm taking advice from anyone just because I'm so lost. In exchange I'll share more nudes of this chick
generally living alone will cost no less than a grand per month.
Isaac Williams

>If you share a flat with a few other people,
I stopped sharing because:
1. I had to tolerate stinky and clingy room-mates because I could not get someone else to pay their monthly share
2. I barely had some privacy
3. every fucking time I went into the bathroom, some roommate just took a shit and forgot to open the windows
4. every fucking time I cleaned something, some fucking roommate dirtied it up because "muh hurry muh quick muh I'll clean up later"
5. and stopped buying beers on fucking day one because roommates just drank'n'forgot
no, the perfect room-mate doesn't exist - and if you meet someone having actually higher standards than you, then you'll be considered the stinking nigger
sharing is cancer. your house must be the place where you can *actually* rest, eat, wash, take a shit without having others interfere.
>tldr no point in having a job if outside job hours your life is unpleasant and depressing
Jason Smith
Olderfag here, 30.
Do yourself a huge favor, start saving for retirement early. Whatever your country equivalent of a 401k is. Don't put the matching percent in your 401k, put 15%.
Plan for investments. Instead of a $500/month car payment, buy a $400/month car... put that $100/month in savings. Better yet, buy a cheaper used car... put the difference you would have paid into savings.
It wont seem like much at first... but once it starts adding up and compound interest starts really showing, you'll thank your younger self later.
I'm 30 with over $100,000 in 401k and other savings accounts. I'm aiming for the $4,000,000 mark at 65, but realistically expect at minimum $3,000,000 at 65... although I plan on retiring well before that. I make $65k a year, $160k home, and have a couple nice cars and a nice truck, few motorcycles... still put a ton in savings.
Hudson Walker
I actually declined a 950/month in Rome for a 25 square meter near Ponte Sisto.
Rome princing can get as low as 400/month if you are willing to get a shared bedroom
Cameron Williams
I need to add more to my 401k. I'm 32. Make 80k a year. 90k condo and a used Lexus. Nowhere near to being on pace for 3 to 4mm at 65. I'm hoping for 1.5mm
Jason Ramirez
I had a huge leg up on that by taking an overseas job making around 150k/yr for two years... It allowed me to take my dream job with a much lower salary. When I came back home I had a wad of cash to put on a down payment for a house. I made over median for the area. 2000sq ft for $160k, nice house with 12ft ceiling in the kitchen/master/living and 9ft elsewhere. Hoping to retire in 15 years after building a house out in the far far country and live much cheaper off the interest in savings.
Michael Campbell
I'm graduating late from university but I plan on catching up with my 401k. Given what you make, that gives me hope that I could catch up as well.
This. Why I'm willing to pay over $1000 for a studio instead of saving a couple hundred bucks and getting room mates. Your home is supposed to be the one place you can relax and that's impossible with other people fucking shit up.
Samuel Bailey
it's funny to read your stories about a condo costing somewhat one or two years wage.
here a decent wage is 15k/year and and a decent 50sq mt apartment is no less than 150k - that is, ten years
basically rented houses are a small percentage because almost every family is paying a 30-year mortgage (in some cases even 40-year ending after 2050)
and no, a specialist engineer can't get more than 30k/year (this is why most of them just escaped our fucking Eurocountry). If you want to get 5k to 15k/month you just need to get elected in the fucking Parliament
Colton Fisher
That would be a great deal in southern California. For $1000 here you can expect a studio apartment with 1 room and bathroom. Maybe 2 rooms.
Cameron Mitchell
A good mental note that you can use...
When you're 21, $10,000 ends up being $100,000 when your 65. Actually a bit more, but when I buy things I like to just put an extra 0 at the end and think, that $40,000 I just spent on a car could have been nearly a half million dollars when I retire.
Benjamin Gutierrez
Or you could be died before you even see that money.
Carter Taylor
Hey OP: 26 Y/O, Living in Toronto, moved out when i was about 23
Make $43k CAD a year (= 35mil Won according to google?)
Rent is $875 CAD I save about $600 CAD I still at parttime uni which is about $400 CAD Elec/Utilities are about $125 CAD Groceries about $300 CAD Transport (Metropass) is $134 CAD My Internet is $80 CAD. I have unlimited bandwidth and 100 Mbps down Cell is $45 CAD
My advice: always expect the unexpected expenses... usually something different and random comes up every month that eats up like $200. If you don't put that amount aside as well, it will fuck you in the end.
Does that help at all?
Easton Kelly
This is excellent advice OP.
Seriously live within your fucking means. Do not go into debt for ANYTHING other than buying a house / flat. Period, no other reason. If you need a car you better save up and pay cash for one.
On average money doubles every 7-10 years, use 10 for a worst case scenario. Lets say youre 25 and want to retire at 65. 40k goes to 80, 160, then 320, then 640, its its good and it's 7 years you get another double to 1.24 million. It really is as easy as saving 20% of your pay.
I pay 1700 dollars a month for 2 bed 2 bath 1200 sqft, about 110 square meters in a okay area near a major city. Downtown my apartment would be double - triple as much.
I pay about 600 dollars a month for living costs, which is food, and consumables like paper towels and soap.
Utilities including internet, gas, electricity sewer, water are another 200-300 in the summer.
These numbers are for me and the GF, so cut food and consumables in half. We couldn't find a place that any cheaper for a flat
Lucas Thomas
Go on Zillow and/or Craigslist and see what apartments go for in your area.
Call up the ISPs in your area and ask them what they charge.
Go to a fucking supermarket and check prices.
You wanna do some adult stuff? Do your own research.
John Kelly
That's adorable. 1bed 1bath in the North Seattle area starts at 1300 and is expected to jump another couple hundred by next year. Fucking Amazon.
Gavin Flores
A few additional points:
-In a month I take away about $2500. There's decent amount of income tax etc off the top in Canada. -Therefore, even though I save 24% of my net pay, I`m really only saving about 16% of my gross pay... I could probably be doing better but at the very least I have been consistent and not dipped into it; that is the key.

Hey there
This guy is mostly right. However there are key things being left out..
>You can cut your rent in half with a roommate. so you are dropping between $350-$400 on rent. Most people live with signifigant others.
IF you are new to the roomate thing respond, this is way harder than people think. If you are lax on morals, be a couples live in threesome cum dumpster and you are looking at dirt cheap rent.
>Taxes Depends on state and how much you earn but since you don't know how to adult, I wouldn't worry too much about taxes. However to avoid owing money get a cheap HSA through your employer to avoid the fine. It sucks and is not real health care but whatever. Or stay on parents healthcare
>bills Assuming you are in contract and already have your phone and aren't a klutz, $60ish a month for cell phone plan with 1gb, $60ish a month for internet, electric will range depending on season and usage so anywhere from $60-$120, Water, gas, trash, etc. $60-80 all things considered.
>How much are groceries and food?
Can very. Girlfriend and I got it down to $60 a piece or less each week and love cooking.
>I'm living in Korea Yup, no one here can help you. Goodluck. Living alone is expensive, so get ready to cam whore or IRL whore if you don't make bank.

>you're going to have a hard time finding even just a minimum wage shit job, whether you'be gone to college or not. applying for a job isn't as simple as filling out a paper application or sending in a resume any more. It's all done online, they often take hours to complete and include mandatory surveys. Often times after spending your whole day applying for two jobs, you'll never hear back from the employers. But when you do get a call back for an interview, it's going to be a shitty minimum wage job and they're going to ask you if you'd like to work full time but regardless of your answer they'all probably start you as a part timer so they don't have to give you benefits (I'm talking 38 hour work week part time, just 2 hours under full time.) >expect not to be able to afford rent on your own. You'be got three options really. -find a working class girlfriend to help financially with the living situation while you live together. -deal with the fucking circle of hell that is finding with and then living with a roommate who hopefully pays their part of the rent on time. -pay so much for rent that you're always on the cusp of starvation because you can't afford to buy food. Nevermind other necessities and also nevermind furniture, you're never going to get any furniture. >keep a good relationship with your parents. They're all you're going to have when your life inevitably goes to shit. >it's okay don't worry. Your parents may not believe this or even if they do, they'd never admit it but times are different and they had it way easier than you ever did, you never stood a chance in this economy. You were fucked before you ever even became an adult.
Welcome to adulthood buddy.
Jason Mitchell
Cut as many corners as you can. Give up the luxury shit. Stay out of debt. The rest will fall into place. (120K/yr own 2 houses. Started with nada.)
