To offer protection to the goalie if fans throw things at him

So you know if the ball went in or not

If you shoot from a weird angle, like if you're near the corner flag, it might not be obvious if the ball went into the front of the goal (which would be a goal) or the side (which wouldn't). Putting a net there means that if the ball winds up in the goal, it must have been a goal. Also, if you shoot at the post from the front of the goal, if the ball gets caught by the net, it's a goal. Without the net, it might look like you missed.

to make it easier for the goalie to get the ball back time after time after the opposition puts 7 past him

blog post coming up:

that happened to me once in the u-13 league. we were midtable-ish and had absolutely no hope against the top team, they would travel to other continents for tours and such. during one such tour we had to play them without their best players.

It is the responsibility of the "home" team to bring the nets, which they didn't do. But we all played anyway, what's the point of winning a forfeit. It was a hard fought game, and we scored late in the match, and instantly the parents of the other team, never used to losing, flooded the field and started harassing the ref that it wasn't a goal. It got so escalated the ref called the match off and we ended up having to replay it a few months later, after all their star players came back. We lost 10-0.

being autistic this hard

Didn't read lol

So you want to go and have to retrieve the ball every time a goal is scored?

To direct the ball downward to a convenient location after it goes in.

Do they use jumpers for goalposts in the CopA Libertadores or something?

wtf

our best player one summer was literally an american soccer movie meme, a tall super skinny brazilian kid who was in the country for the summer. made it to the semifinals that year before we lost 7-1, not even memeing
