Other airline industry employee here. Cock-ups like this happen EVERY SINGLE DAY. You can't coordinate that many moving parts with so many unknowns without the occasional fuck up. Airlines move thousands and thousands of people every day. 4 people getting bumped is a little piss in a big ocean. That said.. they were kinda dicks about it.

I'm not fully understanding this situation.
Was the passenger removed because there were too many already on board; or so another could get on? How does it even happen that too many are allowed on, aren't there people checking this as they're boarding? How do you determine, if you've got to 'forcibly' remove someone, who's a "lesser priority" passenger?
This is a huge fuckup on all fronts on United's end.
