Dig for some drums, drums that don't sound generic, VST's, learn how to master.
Don't bother buying anything unless you really like it and want to support the creator.
It's really simple - something catchy and impactful = people like you.
Variation is always nice as long as it isn't too overwhelming, people like repetition.
