>ywn die alone cold and hungry in the woods

I was the only one who laughed in the theater when he found out he ate poison.

Many survivalist experts say his death could've been easily avoided and was actually quite foolish.

No, it was so dumb. I liked how he brought some shit ass .22 to the fucking Alaskan wilderness.

What a waste for everyone involved.

>mfw reading about how there was a hand-operated tramway less than a mile from where he originally crossed
>he would have known about it had he brought a map with him
>could have lived a full life instead of starving to death by himself inside a broken down bus

But the movie is a pretty damn good study of modern alienation, and the book is an even better travelogue.

He will forever be remembered as an example of what NOT to do in the wilderness. Emile Hirch's best work by far though.

>Not Alpha Dog

No he was a suicidal dumbass. Also why didn't he bang underage kstew its not like she didn't want it

>Not Jay Boy

Like any of you fucking neckbeards would do any better. You would all die on day 2.

Retard, not prepared to live in those conditions. But the thing autists here don't understand that it was more about his philosophy and pursuit of a different life than about a cool /out/ dude surviving in Alaska.

An inspiration to people caught up in traps of modern society, outsiders, seeking happiness and peace of mind. Many people here could relate, maybe not to his philosophy (fucking libcucks reeee right guys?) but the bigger picture is what matters, to conquer the spooks society enforces.

Don't have a good stirner.jpg on my phone but imagine one.

>Not Speed Racer

He only makes kino I swear

the ending was shit. nobody would die from eating flowers.

I have difficulties to socialize. I'll end up like him. Not a cuck.

Because the guy in real life didn't bang some random ass teenage hippy girl who was likely ugly as fuck.

Also he wasn't suicidal, he just wasn't prepared. He mistook a plant that looked like another plant, its a pretty common mistake actually. Like people going into the woods to find shrooms and just eating any shroom they find.

Did he die a virgin?

He knew about it, but it went against his philosophy

there is fireweed that can kill you. there are two kinds and one kind will kill you.

>tfw this film got you into Pearl Jam

I read that he was quite close to a bridge
He should have brought a map

He probably didn't know how to use one

His entire philosophy was bullshit

>get fed up with a comfortable suburban life
>abandon this life
>leave school
>disappoint your family
>roam the nation living like a vagrant
>literally get roughed up for living like a vagrant
>never live outdoors for more than a few days at a time
>think you can survive in the wilderness alone
>bring minimal supplies instead of a lot to survive the winter, you know, just in case
>think that everything will work out the first time you do it because you have a fucking ego and wilderness living is easy-peasy
>literally starve and shit yourself to death because your ego-driven attitude made you feel invincible
>die a foolish death for no reason

Yeah but all he proved was that once you're born in society there's no escaping

This
Not really. Those hippies he hung out with escaped the society they were born into, though they formed a different one. He also escaped the one he came form, albeit temporarily...well, unless you count him dying as escaping then it was permanent.

Autopsy showed no poison. He just starved.

There are a lot of easier places to try that than one of the most inhospitable wildernesses in the world.

yes because who's dumb enough to watch that hippie trash in the theater
I laughed at home

i cried at the end.
Felt so bad for that old guy, he just wanted to pass on more of his legacy

You're straight retarded, here is your (you). McCandless was a badass American on a spiritual journey.

I met his parents, they said he was a good, well behaved, albeit adventurous spirit who couldn't be contained by staying in any one place or settling down.

Fuck you again.

That's my favorite scene in the movie and really the only memorable part to me. Harold Holbrook was so fucking great at being a lovable, helpless, lonely old man.

>it's a Sup Forums didn't read the book thread
The movie was directed by Sean Penn for fucks sake.

>impulsive retard that dies for no reason
>badass American

Now go home and get your fucking shinebox.

thats what it was partially about. he wasnt meant to be going out there bear grylls style, making huts out of tree sap and elk intestine. it was about his escape out of the 'normal' life, which i bet he never regretted, albeit short-lived.

I'm always surprised at how many people don't realize that he probably ended up thinking it was bullshit towards the end, too. Everything about his final notes and pictures indicates that he realized trying to isolate himself and avoid attachments was wrong. Before he died, he realized the most important thing was making relationships and finding happiness within community. His final records make it seem like he just wanted to leave, get in touch with his friends, and move on.

That's the real takeaway of his story to me. He had some valid criticisms about the trappings of society and a shitty family, but when it comes down to it, what's really important is other people. It's just sad he was completely fucked before he realized it.

THIS

>watched the film with some friends who hyped the shit out of it
>thought he was a pseudo philosophical hipster
>friends said I JUST didn't really understand him nor his point
>dated a girl who thought the same as they did
>she got upset and told me it's because I haven't experienced what it was like to find yourself in the wilderness and she knew because she went travelling in South East Asia
>told her that you don't need to experience that to understand that his philosophy was pseudo-level shit

I mean the entire time he talks about he has no need for other people and their 'superficial bullshit' all the while he meets people along his journey that go out of their way to help him take care of himself whilst he thinks he's doing it all on his own. THEN when he finally does end up all alone he still uses the knowledge and tools that others had given him in order to survive and still manages to kill himself because HE knows best

exactly

>(fucking libcucks reeee right guys?)

Is it my fault if your average liberal doesn't have much of a social awareness and feels the need to tell others what a film is about as if they didn't get its theme from the get go?

>he just did the Evangelion ending irl

And what are you guys doing with your lives? Sitting at home on the computer for hours at a time? At least he did whatever the fuck he wanted. I can appreciate that.

No amount of Sean Penn/Eddie Vedder hucksterism can make this kid out to be anything other than the epic dipshit he truly was.

Supertramp was Jesus reincarnation and died for our sins in Alaska.

>Implying this isn't what I want to do
>bonus points for surviving as well

she sounds like an annoying bitch. i hate these kids who think going abroad with lots of money, sticking to tourist trails and living in hostels is somehow 'finding yourself' after being away for a couple weeks. so fucking cliche

>Fulfilled his dream.
>>died for no reason.

These.

And this. Now can we stop having this thread every week?

>In to the Wild
>man is mentally ill
>man shuns society, gives his money away, burns the rest of his money, identification, credit cards, gets his vehicle caught in a flash flood, becomes a filthy vagrant hitchhiker, changes his name to "Alexander Supertramp", kayaks to Mexico illegally, loses kayak in a dust storm, goes to California, shuns civilization again,
>man goes innawoods in Alaska and lives in an abandoned bus for 4 months, and was most likely the person that vandalized the supplies of food caches (he was a really stupid, mentally ill person after all, who wanted to destroy everything he had available to him from civilization)
>man dies from equal amounts of stupidity, ignorance, and starvation (and from being injured)
>enterprising Jewish author decides to write a book about it to make money from someone else's tragedy
>another enterprising Jewish guy decides more money can be made from the mentally ill innawoods guy and decides to make movie about it

This.

This right here, is the only thing you need to know and understand about this fucking movie.

she was a goddess turned succubus
>more crazy than annoying too

lmao this

it's like the idiots in the The Night Of threads fussing about much better they'd have fared off in Nasty Nas's place

No one's saying they would've fared better you moron. People are calling Supertramp out for being a monumentally idiotic person and a hypocrite.

found the beta cucks

It's fucking easy to survive if you prepare, it's just not enjoyable. Stupid decisions end with stupid results. Don't try to assume this cuck would have done better than anyone with even a slice of common sense, fucking betas

This post has some merit but it disregards half of the reason why people like myself dislike the film and the man, said reason being his arrogance and ego as explains

He was riding a bicycle on a race track, along with race cars, during a race. It that isn't arrogance, I don't know what is.

stupidity, as the post implied

No where does the poster imply that he thought he could win or even thought he was better, to me it seemed as though he was stupid enough to attempt the race with the wrong equipment because he had dreamed so long and insisted on not preparing properly

>entering a race, not expecting to win

beta cuck

>I wouldn't have died there this character is so dumb
oh look it's the guy no one wants to ever watch movies with because he's constantly comparing himself to the characters

you cannot escape society, you cannot escape yourself, you cannot escape reality. Why don't you cucks just accept your life and stop being sissy special snowflakes? When you escape like he did, you don't find truth, you simply run away from it. It is from accepting reality and from challenging it that you become a man, not by retiring in solitude for literally no other reason than "nobody else is so retarded to do that, so I will do it"

If he actually respected nature like his book portrayed, then he wouldn't have fucking let his car just rot in the wilderness. He would have done something to ensure that he didn't tamper nature like the people he was trying to avoid. His story is one of some overbearing edgelord who hated "muh society" to the point of running off and crying about it to his eventually death. The romantics instilled in his book almost cover up the truth, he was probably some /r9k/-teir sperg.

>And what are you guys doing with your lives? Sitting at home on the computer for hours at a time? At least he did whatever the fuck he wanted.
what if sitting at home on the computer is what I want? What he did didn't accomplish for him anything important, besides inspire other beta cucks into thinking that if they kill themselves in the stupidest way possible someone might make a movie about them. I accomplish more by posting on Sup Forums, in fact, I get (you)s and I bet he never got one

good goy

yes, because retiring alone into the wilderness and killing yourself, then making a movie about it and earn million shekels while other beta cucks are inspired to go and kill themselves the same way is exactly what the elite international jews don't want you to do.

I hate all of you. None of you idiots understand film.

Been there done that

who's that fat autist?

thats me, right on both counts

lol fatty

was this guy really as cunty as they portrayed him in the movie?

This. Autistic neckbeards BTFO again.

tight chin playboy

definitely didn't die of starvation

DAD'S GONNA FREAK: The Movie

He was really good in killer Joe. Why isnt he A list actor yet?

>his dream was to starve to death scared and alone
wow what a fucking idiot

Fucking funny how none of you can respond to any of the posts talking about his arrogance, stupidity, or hypocrisy.

because hes 4 feet tall with an ego

And yet people are talking about him a years after his retarded death.

how the fuck do you bruise like that wtf?

>dude no map lmao
If you ever go exploring out in the middle of bumfuck nowhere, remember to
BRING MAP
R
I
N
G

M
A
P

yeah calling him a fucking dunce

Read the book but haven't watched the movie.

One thing that did stand out to me was that his dad worked as an antenna specialist for NASA, McCandless' mother worked as a secretary at Hughes Aircraft.

These people are fucking smart and they worked for the military as well. I wouldn't put it past them that this story is a bullshit PSYOP to discourage people from leaving society and living inawoods.

Think about it, would they make a book and a movie of you if you decided to be a moron and try to live off the land in bumfuck wyoming. No. So why is this kids story special at all, go talk to a homeless person and you'll probably get a more exciting plot.

why you go to these lengths to discourage a small number of people from leaving society and living inawoods?

>not lords of dogtown

>I wouldn't put it past them that this story is a bullshit PSYOP to discourage people from leaving society and living inawoods.

Hating this movie has become a meme at this point and it seems everyone who does hate it doesn't understand it at all. No where does it imply Christopher wasn't stupid or ill prepared or that he was right, in fact the fucking ending says that he realized he was wrong after all. Yet for some reason you all get pissy and like to pretend you're better than him because you decided to not do anything adventurous with your life.

Again, no one denies that he was an idiot, but to have this level of vitriolic hatred for him is just stupid.

He ran away from society in the first place because his dad cucked his 2nd wife, his mom, with his first wife and had 2 extra kids with her. His whole travels were him running away from his problems and trying to distance himself from his fellow man. That's why he never stays in one place and leaves the people he formed bonds with on his travels. That's why he writes near his end that all he really wanted to do was to connect with people again.

>Again, no one denies that he was an idiot
THE ENTIRE MOVIE DOES JUST THAT

No, the movie implies that he had a point in what he did, not that he did it intelligently.

He clearly wanted to die

how do you not get that?

Sure in the end when he's actually starving to death he regrets it due to the tremendous pain but psychologically it was his only goal

He didn't give a fuck about life, he had no future, and he didn't want a future.

He's like 90% of young men today.

They certainly do not paint him out to be an idiot user. They give it a romantic spin.

IDK why you are so triggered by people pointing out bullshit as bullshit.

>He didn't give a fuck about life, he had no future, and he didn't want a future.
Didn't he just graduate from Georgia Tech or something. What are you going on about?

I'm not exactly sure why they would do that but there is clearly an objective behind the story/movie.

They didn't paint him as one, but no one disagrees that he wasn't one. Then again it is possible is right. He was definitely intelligent in the academic sense so it seems strange he would be as ill-informed as he was.

I'm not triggered, I'm annoyed how everyone misses the point and pretends to be better than someone who actually tried to do something,

>Didn't he just graduate from Georgia Tech

That's the point. Life was meaningless to him, he wanted to die, but didn't have the balls to make mouth love to his handgun so he wandered the country putting himself in increasingly dangerous and retarded situations until one of them did the job he didn't have the courage to do.

He knew exactly what he was doing

But it was only at the last moment when he realized there was no way back that he really regretted it.

Maybe if he had survived Alaska by some miracle he would have been a changed man, but I doubt it. He might say all the right things to his family after surviving, but in a few months he'd be in Afghanistan playing hopscotch in a minefield while showing the locals drawings he made of Muhammad.

He really is just like the penguin from that one documentary

youtube.com/watch?v=DI3u7g8PPEA

Only I think it's pretty easy to tell why he was suicidal while that penguin is more of a mystery.

really underated

>So why is this kids story special at all

By all standards he was exceedingly bright, wealthy, healthy, and social.

Normal people don't go off and commit suicide in the wilderness

Enlighten me, why was suicidal?
