yep okay

Yup, okay...
Not gonna lie - that first track is freaking obnoxious because of the volume. And that sound, even though it's quite "OST" is really not pleasing at all. I don't know, the quality of the rest of them is quite okay but nothing too big nor interesting to be honest. These feels more like demos than the finished thing. The tracks are way too flat and they lack a proper ambiance to put them forward. At least they are short so you know what you're working with here. I also feel like one synth throughout a track isn't going to do the track justice, you know. For reference, how long have you worked on these tracks?

Yeah it clearly shows.
One advice if I may - if you make something like that (i.e. something made in minutes) and you throw it on BC and share it around chances are people might feels "insulted" because of the amount of crap you giving your music, you know? Work on it, make it something you would be proud of. Don't make a crap name out of yourself from the beginning, you know?

How the actual hell are people not jumping all over this? This is great. I love the way it's recorded and all the subtleties, all the background bits you might not catch if you aren't trying. Going to give it a full playthrough later tonight, DL'd

Flies by like a passing breeze, but in a good way. You don't waste time on ideas, you bring that feeling and don't waste time beating it into the dirt. Also DL'd. Reminds me a lot of certain Cunninlynguist and (like you said) Madlib vibes.

Your self titled has some really enjoyable instrumentation. The vocals are pretty...I'm not into it. I feel like I listened to this before and said nearly the exact same thing, but I was probably drinking. But yeah...the instruments are awesome, it reminds me a lot of The Fall of Troy's older stuff. Enough that I'm actually just going to download it regardless and see if I get used to the vocals.

Hi everyone, this is my new single "Dare". I hope you all enjoy it. It tells the story of an abusive relationship.

Oh, I mean, I love screaming and wailing, it just either clicks right away or it doesn't. I love more straight up screamy vocals pretty often. Think this hovered too much around whining. But I got used to The Brave Little Abacus, I can get used to this. It's still enjoyable overall.

connorleary.bandcamp.com/album/propitiation

> baroque pop
> beach boys inspired
> alternative rock sometimes
> gets a little weird, but also gets poppy

Hey I came out with this last year and I'm back again getting ready to put out another album! I figured in the meantime I'll just shill propitiation a little more. I was really happy with this when it came out, and I think it's a decent album. That said, my current one really blows it out of the water. If you're into this then you can get excited for what I've got coming 'cause it's coming soon.

really enjoying this! My main critique would be that the vocals, with all the reverb, seem a little muddy. Of course, the reverb is integral to the feel of the song but maybe cut out a LOT of the low-mid frequencies in the reverb. You'd still get the echoy spacy feel that you want, but it'd free up a lot of earspace and open things up. I enjoy the songwriting, but I feel like some of the songs start to drag at points. Changing up the melody would help probably - unless you were going for that trancy repetitious quality.

man I absolutely love this!! It plays on a lot of things that I already like so I'm a little bit biased, but you nailed the feel of a lot of 90s alternative. I personally feel like the songs would shine a lot more if you put the melody more in the forefront, you've got the vocals so low that you can't really hear the melody when there's guitar. The refrain at the end of zzz is really beautiful!

getting wilco/NMH vibes from this - REALLY solid songwriting. I'd buy this, but I have $40 in my bank account that I gotta live on for a month till my tax return comes. I dunno if you didn't have the resources or what, but the first half of the album sounds like you were just recording your electric guitar without any sort of preamping, which sounds a little chinsey imo. Sometimes it gets a little muddy, but you're definitely onto something with your textures.

this is me

hey, thanks! i'm listening to your album and i'm SUPER into it, ended up buying a copy. sounds like a modern take on 60s sunshine pop, or a bit of an update on all that elephant 6 stuff. i get some flaming lips vibes at points. probably the first thing i noticed, too, was that the production was really clean and on-point for being a diy act, so way nice job on that.

for recording guitar, i usually just record into my focusrite scarlet 2i2 interface. as time goes on i get better at improving the guitar sound with vsts and such, but I haven't looked into preamps at all. could you tell me a bit about all that? i improve with every song i record but any production tips would be sweet.

eeeyyyy thanks!

I've got a really cheap setup, so it's not entirely ideal, but I actually just plug my guitar into an amp and plug the headphone-out of the amp into my audio interface. Some people frown on that, but I figure if it works, it works.

cheatography.com/fredv/cheat-sheets/eq-tips/ this website has become my freaking bible. You can usually beef up your sound a lot with just simple EQ and compression, I don't usually go much further than that, but if you can combine that with what you already know, it'll probably bring a lot to the table.

oh that's pretty interesting, i might try it out sometime if i can find some cables & whatnot that'll get that to work. that website looks v useful, bookmarked

Beige Monk's stuff is free if you did want to download it for now (and you totally should (and mine too)). Glad you dig it!

Your stuff is cool for sure, are you playing those drums? If they're electric, they're fitting in super well, if not, that's pretty impressive in and of itself. Ditto the other instruments. This has a distinctly Volunteers-era Jefferson Airplane feel to it imo, but it does plenty to distinguish itself and not feel like a rehash of those other 60s bands. Really full feeling stuff. I didn't realize how little guitar was in the songs until I started really picking it apart, it's impressive how big you make it all sound. Thanks for sharing.
