Can I get some recs for rock AOTY?

There's only one true answer, for now, but I doubt it's gonna change, this is an excellent album.

Xiu Xiu Plays The Music of Twin Peaks

Delete this right now

is the guy that used to make these threads with pics of hairy pits still around? he was cool (and its a bugger trying to start threads on Sup Forums from australia)

>and its a bugger trying to start threads on Sup Forums from australia
Our internet isn't that shit, mate

Yeah nah but they've blocked out certain aus ISPs or something from posting. Which means the only way I can post is by going onto me phone and turning off wifi

Also this only applies to starting threads, posting works fine

Oh, right.

Was that due to Aaron?

Yeah, what was that guy's name again?

Danke, hi

rateyourmusic.com/collection/Androol/recent/

I've been making state specific threads lately. Like I actually made one for Florida 2017 at the same time this thread was made so I just deleted it.

G A G.

Also Subtext is putting out some gold this year.

Is this in order? I gave Ellen my lowest score.

Currently pic related is in the lead, but Jlin is a very close second.

The Gag File is my aotysf and the rest are in no particular order. I will say i keep going back to For Organ and Brass and it's really grown on me.

my top ten of the year so far

I finally came around on Power Trip. I think I was just being contrarian because of all the attention it was getting over other Dallas metal albums this year which I think has been a really good year for that city.

bump

2016 you dumbass

Did you really dislike the new Sun Kil Moon/Jesu that much? I gave it a lower score too but still good. I'm just surprised to see it didn't even make your list.

Right now I would say Ambersmoke or Slowdive are my aotysf. I haven't put much effort to find my favourite album yet

Either the new Jlin or new Forest Swords.

Grime is back

>Bardo Pond - Under the pines
DUDE SOUND CHECK LMAO

still need to hear it

what else came out from dallas?

Did laurel halo leak????

If he has any other album where he's as big an asshole I'd be surprised. Musically I much preferred their previous album.

yeah, it's floating around but for some reason it doesn't have the last track

Lexemenomicon

any post punk fans

ah damn gotta wait then. hearing quarantine without light+space would be a completely different experience, cant take that chance. was it good?

I really enjoyed it. Jazzier than chance of rain, but also incorporates her voice, as well as klein & lafawndah w/ other contributions

Demonseed was the big one for me which came out a few weeks before Power Trip and is admittedly very different so it's kind of Apple's and oranges but still. Recently I was pretty surprised by this band called I Am which again is much closer to Demonseed slam style rather than thrash. Otherwise Dallas has just been doing really well in general with The New Year at the forefront although only one member is still there with everyone else in different states but they're still listing themselves as Texas so Dallas still gets them. Otherwise Partaker is the biggest recent surprise for me which very unfortunately I had to give a 2/5 for a weak side 2 but it's really encouraging to hear a Regulator Watts clone come out of there. On first listen I was shocked it didn't contain a member of regulator watts. I think some other albums too but I'm just going from quick memory. Hopefully Absu will put something out this year to seal the deal.

no offense man but what do you see in this?

ill check those out, thanks

tight, yeah her voice is incredible. im really excited for it. are you into elysia crampton at all?

>elysia crampton
where can I listen to her new ep?

Something about the modern production and the modest simplicity puts it above a lot of old school post punk I've listened to. It feels like she knows she doesn't have to be some weird downed out rockstar to dish out weird downed out tunes. I know this is conceited, but the album to me sounds like if someone tackled electronically produced post punk with some semblance of finesse. If you listened to it and didn't like it, I'd skip the first track. It's really out of place and I don't like it.

loved moth/lake as well as demon city, haven't listened to spots y escupitajo yet

i think theres only a couple of tracks up that are on soundcloud. i only heard one of em which was a 9 minute piano ballad that was great. I'm seeing her live tomorrow at EMPAC which is one of the world's best designed performance spaces for electronic sound. I'm beyond excited.

youtube.com/watch?v=eB1J4o2vT5s

^one of my faves from her

Checked out some of the other tracks and i guess its just not for me, that production style kinda bores me i guess. probably just too simplistic tho, i tend to like a lot of stuff going on

What's your aoty? Tell me about yourself

i dont really know if i have an aoty yet. ive listened to the new klozapin album probably more than anything else and i also have been waiting for new GAS for years so this was pretty awesome to hear narkopop. as for myself i used to be very outgoing and due to schizophrenia and depression and drug problems ive become more reclusive over the last few years living at home and getting a degree and my life back together. i try to enjoy transitory and fleeting moments more than day to day life. i find it hard to understand what people do and why they do it, what they gain from it. ive been coming here for about 7 years and listen to a lot of different music

Hmm
This is a track from one of my other faves of the year. What do you think?

theguruguru.bandcamp.com/track/making-waves

>i find it hard to understand what people do and why they do it, what they gain from it.
At the risk of derailment, any particular example?

I personally loved it. Liked it a lot more than Common As Light.

...

...

As I recall, there was a lot of musical diversity all done well on CaL which won me over. Also admittedly I had particular expectations for Jesu wanting him to go even a little noisier rather than pulling way back and kind defeating his purpose I think. Although that could be unfair and outright wrong.

social interaction, in particular why people put their honest selves out there and what they gain from doing so. why would someone meet someone new? what do they want from it? how much of their honest and true selves do they release throughout the day, and how does that make them feel?

in all honesty im probably just adverse to being my honest self with people as some sort of defense mechanism since when i failed out of college, i met up with an old high school teacher, who was in a major position of trust having been aware of my mental problems in high school, got me drunk and we had sex. then proceeded to have an affair for about a week but it just really fucked up my ability to trust other people.

not quite my cup of tea. for rock check this out tho, they have a new album coming out soon and rule super hard. palmnewyork.bandcamp.com/album/palm-audiotree-live

this was good

Could I get some recs?

Yeah I get that. Personally I prefer the prettier side of of Sun Kil Moons output. The instrumentals on CAL (a lot of them) are so drab and sluggish, if find it really hard to get into.

There are moments on 30 secs that I think are up there with marks best. Bombs and Twenty Something are fucking superb.

How's that Pond album? Was thinking of checking it out.

hey! that new khotin album was comfy. Check out:
suzo saiz - rainworks
matteo vallicelli - primo
nico niquo - in a silent way
road hog - haul ass
the deluge - forest structures
theo bleckmann - elegy

pic is my top 5 so far, some are EP's

i sampled a few of the songs from this and couldn't get into it but i'll try again

Wow, I actually hated Rune Husk. I'll give it another listen today, but I never expected it to make anyone's list.

fucking love priests

I like pic related

forest swords is good

also Flume - skin companion 2 EP, if you delete the track with pusha T its actually fucking great

2016 and eww fuck outta here

wrong year

Did Planetarium leak?

good shit

The new Forest Swords has really been growing on me, really solid release.

Bump

I'm surprised to see you give a 4 to Tennis. Did you hear their last album? Its way better and made my top 15 of 2014. I feel like you'd literally have to give it a 5

Manga Saint Hilare's Outbursts From The Outskirts is the best grime album of 2017 though.

Is their some particular reason these threads aren't reaching bump limit?

because mu hates actually discussing music, especially new music.

2017 threads always die but there's always 2-3 threads about hot chicks and taylor swifts legs, and a thousand about 70s rock.

Also for example that Perfume Genius thread someone just made could have very easily gone in here.

perfume genius fucking sucks. i only liked his early stuff that was piano shit

people don't check the catalog because they're fucking retarded. It's why there are 75,000 kendrick/kanye threads instead of a hhg anymore.

*
Oops I was listening to the wrong album. I was talking about the new Record Store Day exclusive for which I still stand behind my snide comment. Starting the correct album now and much better.

yeah paramore's is the best one so far IMO
surprised it debuted low at #6, considering their last was at #1

Really fucking good imo. I'd definitely check it out

What about the new Matt Pond PA album

...

Got you covered

Hey m8, where'd you get the template for that chart? Looks cool.

Also, pic related.

...

Doris and the Daggers is also awesome.

>Brendan Byrnes
Being this patrician!

I like when he delves into synth pop and songs with better production, but for me I can't stand how to dress well's newer output

A Crow Looked at me or pic related

what about a crow left of the murder

too much deep house sorry

DONT DIE YET

nice thread dudes

one more bump?

Script for machine synthesis was really weird. it didn;t click for me

ah yeah that's probably the most annoying one on there, his whole recent material using voice hasn't seemed to be too popular with people but I've had some really great experiences with it.

the khaki blazer album on there is really weird but it's a sort of accessible sort of weird, even though I prefer the hecker album I would recommend that one for anyone looking to get freaky

really like the new alex g album, surprised I haven't seen it on Sup Forums before now

might have been, not sure

ah yep, cool. glad you liked that brendan byrnes album! looking at your rym we have pretty similar tastes so i'll keep an eye on it

yeah I was really disappointed in it, I haven't really got into an oM release since Paralytic Stalks, and oh man I love that album, Authentic Pyrrhic Remission is one of my all time favourite tracks, I love it. Rune Husk only got a 5/10 from me, it was disappointing, but not completely awful.

hey cool this dude is back

hey man, i made it all myself in gimp. if you want to recreate it just use the same resolutions as my image, and set a grid at 85x85 (and turn on snap to grid). if you're familiar with the program it won't be too difficult, but i will make a little template or something eventually for people to use.

I love this album, microtonality sounds amazing when used in an interesting way, and he's nailed it.
