Is joining the US military worth it?
I'm aware of the benefits, but am still unsure if it's worth the sacrifice.

Fuck yeah bro
Crush some commies and tbag some sandniggers when you get to Afghanistan

I'm a SSgt in the Air Force (2a6x6) ama op..

Same question here

how many white people are there?

what are you sacrificing, exactly?

1A531, loadmaster in C130s. Sup brotha?

Ask someone who's MX.. Oh boy.

Don't join OP if you have any doubts.. just dont

OP here. What are the hours like?

It's really boring

Most relevant comment so far

OP, this is something you need to be super fucking sure about. If you're not committed to seeing it through, you're gonna have a bad time.

What's being a loadmaster like? That's the career I've been looking at the most.

>good advice on Sup Forums
What's your angle user?

Retired Operations Specialist First Class from the Navy.

If you're not sure, do not do it. Period.

It's a lot of training. It was almost a year, when I went through. After that, it's fucking dope. Chill in the squadron when you're not flying, then kick Army grunts out the paratroop doors and shit. Fucking. Love. It.

So at normal bases its usually M-F 0700-1500, 1500-2300, or 2300-0700. I'm at attached to a guard unit meow and we work four 10 hour days. Deployed its six 12 hour days..

Don't join OP, if that's what you're worried about then don't even bother

Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

MX here, crew chied.. heavies.

>going to Sup Forums for life changing advice

That said, you gotta score pretty high on the ASVAB. It's an in demand job, with few openings.

Also, join open general, you don't want aircraft maintenance..

if you're even asking, your life is probably no going in the trajectory you had hoped.

I joined, went signal, got out and got certifications and ended up making well over 6 figures. Not a bad deal if you ask me.

Coast Guard is a cake job. Best decision of my life.

>loadmaster
You have to be sure about wanting to do it. It requires a lot of time, discipline, and effort. You won't have much free time and won't see family or friends for months on end but it seperates you from the NEETs.

I'm a civilian load master and jerk off like five times a day.

CCs always in boned in the desert, sucks lol. Can't say that too much since I'm E&E tho

You're not sacrificing that shit...
It's fairly restrictive when you deploy, but as long as you're not doing anything illegal, you're not losing much freedom in the service.

Always get boned*

God dammit, I wish I could get on as a civil load. Who do you work for?

>elem
God's speed user, God's speed.

Hey OP choose heavy MX and go electrician.. loadmaster sucks anyways.

are you fucking serious?

>everyone loses their rights and has to an hero when their contract expires

how many people have you blown up?

Fuck that. Laid back on those nylon seats, with your David Clark's on, letting the gentle vibration of the C130s engines kill you straight into the best fucking sleep you'll ever have.

Until the pilot calls for the Descent checklist....

Maybe it's just me, but I'm not willing to throw my life away to ensure our dependence on oil just because some asshole with a pretty uniform said so.

My mom. The gbp are okay but the housing and insurance benefits are amazing.

No guns on the C130j. Straight cargo and personnel. The AC130 is the world ender.

Then don't. But don't falsify what "you lose" when you enlist to protect the things that you love, bruh.

Lol if you have to ask you are a retard

This.

Many people who enlist take for granted what they used to be able to do freely. Their freedoms.

Nah, it's a good idea to be informed before you make a decision this serious.
Recruiters are just gonna feed you propaganda and shut. At least here, you'll get honest experiences.

So I scored an 88 on the ASVAB, and I'm looking to go into the Air Force. I'm pretty fit and all that, I'm just not sure what I want to do. All I know is that I'm gonna try to stay until I retire. Any advice or suggestions? Anything would be appreciated. I'm 18 btw about to graduate

I know friend I know. But fuck OK, i dont want to make any sacrifices then fuck you don't join.

Pick the right job

If you do:

> get anything and everything that the recruiter promises you in writing, EVERYTHING....otherwise they'll tell you whatever the fuck you want to hear and you'll end up in the ass end of buttfuck no-where doing a job that is nothing close to what you asked for.

> if you have any intelligence and got decent scores on the ASVAB, do yourself a favor and join the airforce.

> if you don't like basketball-americans, you will really hate the army and the navy, and the marines aren't much better in that department.

> whatever you do, be smart, and take a specialty that has a high-paying civilian equivalent job to match what you do for when you get out, othewise you'll either be stuck in the military forever or working in fast-food/bouncing at shitty nightclubs when you get out.

The military is a great opportunity, but don't think it can't suck tremendous balls if you aren't smart about it.

Remember, unless you are fucking rambo, you want to be in the rear with the gear, watching all the basketball-americans be cannon fodder and walking IED detectors while you sit in a air-conditioned trailer.

Save. Your. Fucking. Money.

Don't be an idiot and just join to be able to get a fucking Camaro and shoes and useless things. Save and invest so you can set yourself up later in life.

I'm dead serious man. It's a great opportunity but you need to understand what comes with it.

Any service Sup Forumsros know about Public Health Commissioned Corps? I'm starting college this fall, want to major in environmental health, and heard that's a branch I should look into.

I would say don't plan to make it a career until your first enlistment is almost over. You might join, live it, then fucking hate it after 4 years. Don't set that kind of goal until you know that you want it, friend.

>enlist to protect the things that you love
Oil? I don't like oil. I want payment and benefits. Let's cut with the 'muh freedoms' shit guys and accept that we're imperialists. Do you honestly think Roman legionnaires would stand around in Egypt talking about how the garrison protects their family across the sea or did they admit they did it for money/ benefits/ travel/ fraternity/ killing/ powerful?

This is actually really fucking solid advice. I was stationed with a dude who, for four years, didn't buy a car, lived in the dorms, walked to work... No dumb shit.
The moment he got out, he bought a house outright. Never spent or wasted his money, and immediately set himself up with a great situation once he separated.

These two. The novelty wears off after a few years of real actual work, but when you get out you tend to miss the benefits, opportunities and experiences.

Is this girl too young to sign up on a dating site? swingeer.com

Dont fucking bother op. If you are hesitating then you are probably the kind of quivering little piss bag that would hesitate in a fire fight and get the wrong people killed. Stay out because you are not worthy to carry these warrior's gear

A lot of guys think they're going to go into the military and learn something that they're not going to use in military that's usually not the case. A buddy of mine went in to be a tank mechanic, came out not knowing Jack shit about anything mechanical. What he did learn was how to change a specific module on a specific tank. He can do that shit with his eyes closed but doesn't know the difference between coolant and oil.

If you want to go career on the other hand the military can be great but don't expect to go in for 4 years and come out knowing anything other than military shit.

And if you want to do it for college just go to a good Community College and skip the military all together.

Not saying you shouldn't go in, just that if you do go in, go in informed and with a life plan.

There are a few things you could do in the military that will set you up for civilian life but they are far and few between find out what they are before signing anything and make sure you were getting in where you want to get in. And remember no matter what they say your ass is theirs once you sign that paper. They can and very well might lie to you about what you'll be doing too.

If I was going to do it I get enough college credits under my belt to go in as an officer. If I remember correctly that's about a year of school.

You look at this from a different spectrum, friend. I joined the military in order to out myself in the position to succeed later in life. The things that I love are not protected by military means, they're protected by my ability to provide for my family, have a place to live, and do the things I like. I have those opportunities because of the career path that I chose.

Stop thinking in such a narrow scale. Not everyone is a fucking nationalist.

I gave this advice to plenty of my friends. When I got out six months ago I bought a Subaru WRX straight off the lot and will be buying my own house soon.

All it takes is restraint. Save your money!

Fair enough. Right now, I'd like to make a career out of it, but I suppose I can't be certain that I'll like it. If anything, I'll stay in long enough for them to pay for my college at least and go from there.

Your life, time away from friends and family and quite possibly your sanity. Snarky little dumb shit

Try it. Go through basic. At the least, if you don't come away with a career, you'll learn a bit of discipline that most people don't get. It will help you in the professional world.

If you don't have any doubts about a big life choice like that you're fucking moron.

Op thinking about it the way he is already puts him ahead of you in the Game of Life

DON'T DO IT

YOU WILL FUCKING HATE IT

AND WILL FUCKING MASSIVELY REGRET IT

IT'S LIKE PRISON, YOU CAN'T GET OUT ONCE YOU GO IN UNTIL YOUR SENTENCE IS FUCKING OVER

WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO VOLUNTARILY JOIN SOMETHING THAT'S EXACTLY LIKE BEING IN FUCKING PRISON

You would be sacrificing the exact same thing if you had to travel.to find work. Or if you moved to a different state. Or if you went to fucking prison. This is the most ignorant shit I've seen all day.

You think you can't make friends in the military? Find a girlfriend? Go home and visit?

Most of us don't live with our parents for our whole life, neckbeard.

America is the land of the imprisoned. It's the patriotic thing to do.

Said the basement dweller..

Oh how cute the Liberals brainwashed into thinking being a nationalist is a bad thing. I sure as hell would want to fight in a foxhole next to you.

Im talking to recruiters now. However I'm getting tired of them lying to me. I want to go OCS since I have a degree. Scored an 80 on the practice exam. Have been brushing up on my algebra (it's been 7 years) and I took another one from home where I got a 93. I'm just stuck between Army or Navy right now.

>Become officer
>gain more money
>great benefits
>learn to do cool shit
>have fun for a while while other people are dying and getting fat in offices
>finish masters while in service
>travel when active duty is over
>work as a consultant for a company like Bane or BCG before I hit 30 with my pumped up resume

If I die, fuck it.

Fellow air force fag here. Been in year and a half. Worse thing about it having to live in close proximity to people you fucking hate and there is no real good way to make them go away. Lived next to a loud dumb fuck gangster wanna be that threatened to OD and kill himself and leadership made him a fucking leader to make him feel more welcome? Idk sometimes shit is dumb. Work is easy and the pay is shit. Supposed to be better after you deploy tho

The difference is, outside of the military you can be your own person. Once you sell your soul to Uncle Sam, you're stuck there until they let you out. They better be paying you a shitload to sacrifice your life like that.

That's for you to decide when you get in...I'm navy and hate the shit out of it.

Navy here, ask away bud.

>Some people happened to fuck in this particular area of the world and now I'm here, so this particular area of the world is the best.

what rate

Not a liberal, and there's nothing wrong with being a nationalist...
I was trying to explain that there are more reasons to join the service than "muh Murica".

He already asked you if it's worth it. Air head

I just got out, what's your rate brother?

>I'm aware of the benefits, but am still unsure if it's worth the sacrifice.
I knew a bunch of guys in college who were there thanks to the GI bill from serving after 9/11. I can think of one or two out of the 20 or so that that didn't have serious emotional or physical problems as a result. These guys served in Afghanistan and Iraq during the early 00's.

Why do you assholes always go for the neck beard shit. Oh that's because you have no fucking other argument. I'm 220 pounds 6 foot 3 barely an ounce of fat on me Im married and I'm an engineer. I'm also 35 year old homeowner I haven't lived with my parents since I was 16. Id Put A month's pay that I'm far ahead of you in every aspect of life. God I hate you fucking cock suckers

That's subjective, though. If you, in your life, have a blue mohawk, and make politically charged statements in public, then yes, your behavior will be restricted.

Personally, I always kept my hair short anyway, and my opinions are only shared with the people close to me. I didn't have to change much about my life to accommodate the required behaviors/appearance.

Again, this is totally subjective to how you want to live.

>getting this triggered on Sup Forums
Or be more specific next time dumbnuts and don't use buzzwords nationalists spew

>hurr durr political tiggering
Too much autism user

Let it go, brother. They will never understand. Not until they go through what we have.

I'd prefer to live in a way that doesn't involve dying. Being sent to die runs contrary to my life goals.

Calm down faggot

Also dick, I'm smart enough to keep my ass out of prison. And I would never work any job that would keep me away from my family for long periods of time. I travel the world on my free time, come back at me when you have a quarter of my life experience instead of sitting on a fucking keyboard being a prick.

yeah you can turn it into a career and make your life useful for once

Jesus, you got grumpy fast.
You have the same build as me.
I'm also a homeowner.
I'm 30 years old.
Married, with 2 kids.

How much further ahead of me you are is a matter of perspective, bro.

Chill out, man. Hypertension is a pretty bad thing.

Shut the fuck up before I find out where you are and put my dick in your mouth.

Well my major concern with the Navy is also what I love about it. Deployment. My biggest fear centers around not being able to go back home to take care of something serious like an illness.

Also I'm not entirely sure what kind of job I would want in the Navy given that Officers have a far more limited spectrum of jobs. I was thinking Naval Surface Warfare Officer.

I got a degree in BA with a minor in Econ and a concentration in Finance.
3.4 GPA. Can rock a PT.
The Army recruiter at least lied to me saying getting into OCS is a super long, difficult process and I would need to score a 270 on the PT, which is outright bullshit. Navy as well basically just said I'm better off enlisting and then seeing if I want to go officer. But I've already made up my mind. Didn't bother working my entire life and going to school to start from scratch.
So my questions are
1. Can I do my Masters while serving (effectively)
2. What are the best Navy jobs, especially for officers
3. What's life generally like

I'm 24 btw. Hoping to knock out my service and higher education and then high tail it back home to work in Boston.

Just don't be a combat job. Literally that easy. You do your 3 and a half-4 years and finish. Easy as that. Don't be some 11B fuck-up or engineer, it's not what you think. Be some desk jocky or mechanic or something lame and do your time get out and use your benefits. When you're in the military, don't spend your cash on every fucking thing you can. Military is worth it if you're smart and don't do retarded things while in it.

t. Army fag
AMA

Dude, I didn't say that you did any of those things. If your life is that great, then awesome, I'm happy for you.

I don't know why you think I'm being a prick, but you're welcome to your opinion.

Don't trigger me or I'll blog about it

Joining the army is probably one of the most stupid things you could do.

How? Don't make a claim you can't back.

seriously need to ask?
you could die.
you could have to kill some one.
you could see some one you know die.
you will have to live with what you see...

does this really need explaining?

I want to be an airforce fag who does something fun. I was thinking MP and then was told that life is hell as an MP. Any suggestions?
>I know the military isn't supposed to be "fun"

Any other O's here?

15 years so far as a Tank crewman in the US Army. I love what I do, but I'll readily admit that it's not always great nor is it for everyone.

Alright, people are getting salty here, so I'm gonna take off.

OP, sign up. Get through basic, finish tech school. Learn something. Better yourself. Use the GI Bill to go to/finish college.

Do something good for yourself, man.

Air force is superior

Well my buddy was an MP. He enjoyed it but he's pretty fucked up from his deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Apparently he had to blast some people and saw some fucked up shit.
Idk, he said it was a great decision for him, he spent 12 years and got medically discharged, he was going to make a career out of it.
