bretty good and top depressing - just like the film

also i'm talking about the swedish one, which i hope you do too op

A perfectly middle of the road list. Literal 5/10.

Jigoku
Who Can Kill a Child?

Is there any way to find old japanese horror movies without having to spend $60 on a criterion release?
>inb4 pirate bay
I already tried that

Evil Dead 2 gets worse and worse with each rewatch for me. It's not funny, not scary, and generally ruins the actual terror and charm of the first film.

Nice to see so much love for Sleepaway Camp here.

No order:
>Cannibal Holocaust
>Headless
>Society
>Black Christmas
>Horror Express

Not really. You can try to get an invite to asiatorrents or whatever. Or if you don't mind streaming quality a lot of that shit is online

no order

The Shining
The Thing
Blair Witch Project
Kairo
From Dusk Till Dawn

Scream (1996) is both scary and intelligent enough to not resort to cheap thrills or atmosphere alone. In merely two hours it somehow managed to build the atmosphere, good characters, story you care about and a lot of thrill. It's not perhaps even a full blown horror movie, more like crime/horror, but just saying, definitely one of the rare in this genre I can watch repeatedly.

The Thing
Possession
Aliens
Under the Skin
Evil Dead 2

Or Demons (1971) if you don't think Aliens counts.

>Men Behind the Sun
>Sleepaway Camp

Audition
Don't Look Now
The Exorcist
The Evil Dead
The Shining

Objective top 5

>The Thing
>Evil Dead 2
>The Fly
>The Witch

Holy fucking shit, this is the shittiest taste of all times.
Also,
>Evil Dead 2
>horror

The thing, aliens, tremors, dawn of the dead orig, funny games

honestly I only put Sleepaway Camp on there for the very last shot which I find genuinely unsettling, probably the only time one of those hokey 80s faux-slashers actually contains a frightening moment.

Kill List
The VVitch
The Thing
Possession
Tetsuo: The Iron Man

>it's about a vampire so it's horror

nah.

although the book is pretty hardcore (and a times darkly comedic), like said.

Alien
Psycho
Braindead
American Werewolf in London
Romero's Dead Trilogy

Not in Order:
Sleepaway Camp
The Exorcist
Forbidden Planet
Night of the Living Dead (The Original)
Invasion of the Body Snatchers. ( The Original)

Brainscan
Funhouse
976-Evil

Shining
Demons
Thing
Halloween 3 Season of the Witch
Don't Look Now

My tastes are subject to change day by day but at the moment the five that come quickest to mind are

The Descent
The Fly
The Shining
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre
The Thing

The Thing
Alien
The VVitch
It Follows
The Babadook

do I fit in?

>The Thing
>The Gate
>Evil Dead Movies
>Dead Alive
>Demon Knight

I have a special place in my heart for all these movies while growing up.

>Pic Related

>The VVitch / It Follows / The Babadook meme combo
Y'blew it.

>implying the other two aren't the biggest meme movies

>The babadook
>the descent
I like you.

I respect dadcore imdb memes more than imgur list memes.

1. The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari
2. Black Sunday
3. The Witch
4. Suspiria
5. The House of the Devil

fite me fgts

The movie has some very spoopy scenes

The Innocents
Kwaidan
Don't Look Now
Inland Empire (or Angst if it doesn't count)

I don't watch a lot of horror but I guess these:

5 The Iron Man (Tetsuo)
4 Nosferatu: Phantom der Nacht
3 Arachnaphobia
2 The Thing
1 Psycho

1. Dead Alive/Braindead
2. The Thing

In no particular order:

>Nightmare on Elm Street: Dream Warriors

Why the Dream Master? It's one of the weakest in the series IMO (in my opinion)

Eraserhead
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre
The Thing
The House of the Devil
The Wicker Man

Blair Witch Project
Black Christmas
Aliens
A Cold Night's Death
The Village

In order.

>Jacob's Ladder
>Lake Mungo
>Alien
>Mulholland Drive
>Suspiria

How can you not like Evil Dead 2 you fucking retarded contrarian pleb? Also I don't even recognize any of those but Cannibal Holocaust which is just edgy trash. Is this post bait?

>Sup Forums
>reading a book

No one who frequents this board has read more than 10 books.

>not knowing Black Christmas
THAT's pleb m8. Also Cannibal Holocaust is hilarious and if you dismiss it as "edgy" you have no business watching horror movies in the first place

Careful, Blair Witch is an upcoming shitty remake.

The Lost Boys
Blood and Black Lace
Suspiria
Spider-Baby
Pin

I'm the guy he criticized, how can you possibly think Cannibal Holocaust is funny? It's a satire yes, but in the sense that it is showing things it doesn't agree with to make a point. Although I suppose in a way it does agree with its themes because Deodato's most damning critique is that of himself as a maker of violent and exploitative films.

ED1 is the only good film Raimi ever made. Also watch more movies.

Jacob's Ladder is true shit.

1. The Thing
2. The Fly (1986)
3. The Shining
4. The Island of Lost Souls
5. Alien

...

I don't think I'd call Mulholland Dr a horror film

>how can you possibly think Cannibal Holocaust is funny? I
Well because I don't care about giving CH some kind of redemptive value or deep meaning about "criticism" like everyone else tries to do. It's obvious that all of that shit is retrospective navel-gazing and that when they made the movie they wanted to make it crazy and fuck with people deliberately. Hence the whole "bringing the actors before a judge" bit. It's a gag.

1. Alien
2-5. Alien 3
The Descent
Suspiria
The Thing

9/10, masturbated to The Fly

Are you the guy who recommended Bava the day before and kept posting 3X3 grids of Bava?

You shouldn't watch movies

nope

>almost nobody ever watched this masterpiece
It's literally the best slasher film

>It's satire yes, but in the sense that it is showing things it doesn't agree with to make a point
>to make a point
I think you mean Salo. CH is just shock value trash with nothing more to it. It's fine if you like it, but don't try to attribute it any depth to make yourself feel justified, when there is none.

>that middle school rebuke
You sure showed him

Well it's too late because I've probably seen 10 times the movies you have. Also fuck off

>Aliens
>Horror

Pick one only

1) Black Sunday
2) Lisa and the Devil
3) Halloween
4) Creepshow
5) Wes Craven's New Nightmare

The Thing
Halloween
Rosemary's Baby
Possession
Alien/Blair Witch Project

It's objectively an action/horror, OP didn't say scary movies.

So still acting, then.

Shit man I dunno...
Videodrome
Jacobs Ladder
Kairo
The Shining
The Descent

Maybe...?

It's fine if you aren't smart enough to see its depth. It's fine if you don't watch movies for intellectual and artistic purposes. It's fine if you just like to turn off your brain.

Really how many is that?

>ctrl+f
>grudge
nothing

Rosemary's Baby
Carrie
Don't Look Now
The Shining
Suspiria

Actually, I've read eleven.

I've literally seen like 10,000 movies. I don't need to get my intellectual gratification from fucking Cannibal Holocaust. If you want it to be some deep social commentary about media violence and natives or whatever that's fine, but when Deodato and critics go on about that shit it's obviously hindsight, and they didn't actually care about any of that shit when they made the movie.

In no order.

V/H/S/ 1&2 if only one then 2
Alien
Blair witch project.
The Descent, I liked both of them really.
Silent Hill

I want to add The Borderlands.

Also for comfy shitt, Creep. imdb.com/title/tt2428170/
Its not great but I liked it.

Kek, I read about 6 books a month... And I'm always shitposting capeshit

also,

The Wicker Man
Picnic at Hanging Rock
Possession
Videodrome
Halloween
The Thing
Antichrist

Think what you want. You have seen twice as many movies as me and believe me, I am SO impressed that you have LITERALLY seen 10k movies. Like omg who does that? Really cool, impressive guys. That's who.

Ju-on
The ring (US)
Mamma
The forest
The borderlands

I like (scared of) ghosts.
Im bored with gore and that kind of stuff.
Not being edgy, just not scary but more disgusting.

House of the Devil is mediocre, but I'm not gonna fight you. Suspiria is great but the soundtrack detracts from it. I wouldn't classify The Witch as horror but it was fantastic. Good taste overall, aside from House of the Meme

Your retort is literally:
>Well...yeah...but you're stupid!

You could just stop typing if you don't have anything to say. It's obvious you're frustrated about something (I imagine it's because your life is shitty) and you have to get our catharsis by lashing out at people randomly on the internet. But you do you, I'll continue laughing at horror movies while you get all worked up about nothing

...
Videodrone
Evil Dead
The Omen
Sauna
Audition

>Using subjective opinion and calling it objective

Aliens is an full blown action sci-fi film.

It's a fucking alien bug hunt, next you'll be telling me that Starship Troopers is a horror.

Why do autistic redditors like the Vvitch?

Btw my top 5:

The Shining
The Descent
Rosemary's Baby
The Orphanage
Halloween

Holy shit you couldn't sound more pseudointellectual if you tried.

>to see its depth
If you mean the "social commentary" about violence in modern day news media and such, then you could say the same thing about any gory shock horror movie, like Serbian Film, August Underground or Guinea Pig.
>"oh look how meta it is, get it? it shocking so it attracts people to it out of morbid curiosity, but in reality it's a commentary on the exact same thing woow"
I too read the wiki page.

Also I like to think that competent enough to think about the movies I watch. I'm by the way, since you care so much about judging people based on appearances.

*that [I'm] competent enough

You're right, I don't have anything to say to you. I just wanted to point out how lame it was that you were clearly incredibly proud of the amount of films you've seen. Please continue your anti-intellectual and anti-art film viewing. I am not particularly frustrated so much as just confused by how someone who clearly loves films could write one off just because it's an "exploitation" film.

That's not its "depth." If you don't get it, you won't. No worries.

>projection

keke

>That's not its "depth."
Please enlighten me, then. I'm curious.

>could write one off just because it's an "exploitation" film.
What the fuck are you talking about? This whole thing started because YOU butted in after I defended CH from someone who said it was "edgy trash." You can't even keep track of your own shit. The only reason I brought up the 10,000 movies was because YOU literally asked me how many movies I've seen. How retarded are you?

I don't understand people actually liking Audition.

Torture porn is so empty and boring. It's not even scary, just unpleasant and sad.

The Lost Boys
An American Werewolf in London
Pet Sematary
Night of the Demons
The Battery

Yeah, why be into The Vvitch when it's a pale, non-scary attempt at atmospheric occult horror, of which there are much better examples?

I actually appreciate it trying to do atmosphere and occult horror, they should do it more. I just don't think it was very effective.

It was a stab in the right direction though.

I can't live my life by memes. I tried to combine favorties, greats, and guilty pleasures to narrow it down to 5.

I grew up with The Lost Boys. Honestly, I'd pick Once Bitten and My Best Friend's a Vampire before Fright Night. Monster Squad, too.

Honestly it's hard to explain. It's a very primal thing for me, it came in a moment of epiphany during the turtle death scene. Obviously the film is about how shitty Mondo filmmakers are as well as violent filmmakers in general. And also obviously when we see the protag eating human flesh it's about accepting other cultures for what they are instead of exploiting them. But it also has indescribable feelings of the inability to escape the violence in humanity. In this film beauty is tied to death and destruction. The essence of what it means to be human is be attracted to violence. This is the most shallow way to describe how it makes me feel, but it's very hard for me to put it into words exactly. Like, Deodato criticizes films that violently exploit natives and animals, then does so himself and actually kills animals in his own film. Then, many copies of the film such as Cannibal Ferox come out and emulate the real animal deaths but with none of the artistry or meaning, showcasing true exploitation and making CH's point come down even harder. The film is an expose on humans in general, especially Deodato himself and he shows how vile he truly is with full understanding of his own repugnancy.

You called it laughable, how is that defending it? And the way you said "I have literally seen 10000 movies" is pretentious. I have seen 5000 movies. I have literally seen like 5000 movies, like so many i don't even know anymore haha, like i'm so crazy, all i do is watch movies and i know a lot about them haha. See the difference?

I said it was funny and it is funny. I'm sorry if I offended your intellectual jerk-session by finding it funny. So the movie is about how Deodato is a shitty dude? Big deal. You're little "analysis" is just a bunch of vague, non-committal statements like "indescribable feelings of the inablity to escape the violence in humanity." Wow cool. How is that not what every fucking arm-chair critic has been saying about CH for the past 40 years?
