As far as I know, Germany was a pretty weak in Europe until the late 19th century

China is a world trade superpower. They have been buying up swathes of real estate in the west, especially in cities like Vancouver and San Fransisco. They are investing and building infrastructure around the world, especially in developing countries in Africa, etc. Once they develop, those ties will have been long-standing and well developed. I wouldn't underestimate them.
Jack Foster
Germany as you're referring to it wasn't a thing until the late 19th century.
Carter Hughes

this my grandparents grew up in the 1920-1930's, learning latin and german was mandatory to get a highschool diploma (at least in two northern and a southern state), but back then you could retire from a high paying career without one
german or latin was still a requirement until the 60's in most of the usa, for my parents at least
and of course our immigarnts who were german...
Juan Miller
>all these mandarin replies Why? How much cultural influence does China have where you live? How many chinese songs do you hear on the radio? How many chinese movies have you seen at the cinema? Do people in you're country follow chinese fashion trends? Do people know anything about china and chinese culture what so ever? Can they name any chinese cities except for Beijing and Shanghai?
We're all still living in America, and there's no alternative surficing at all. 90% of television in Sweden is American, almost all songs/trends/whatever. Hell, the average swede could probably recite at least 20 american states from the top of their head
Isaac Perry
At least Hong Kong cinema was pretty big and even influential in Western countries before.
If China hadn't turned Communidt we might have Mando-boos and Mando-pop right now.

Didn't most of those write in latin, before the 20th century? Specially philosophers.

most autistic people are not smart at all, and they need to be cared for continuously, the functional smart ones are a small minority.
Owen Peterson
No. French was THE language everyone and their mother learnt up until the 50's / 60's if they wanted to work in anything international related. English was learnt in colonies and by some others in continental Europe as a secondary language that they took with French. Don't be fooled. I never heard of this. By the time scholastic academia kicked off in America, the UK and it's academic institutions were large enough to warrant publishing most of their own shit in English. It would help to know German and French in order to read journals and papers written in both of them. Latin was learnt just so you would be cultured; post-18th century you rarely see it outside of core-natural science publications.
