Some clothes are fairly transparent to IR light, even if they don't appear transparent to visible light. So if you remove the IR filter of the cam and add a filter to filter out visible light, you can see through some fabrics, to a certain extent. This is why those old Sony camcorders in nightshot mode were used for this.
