My left ear is stopped up. I woke up 3 days ago and had a little pressure and ringing, and it seemed to slowly decrease over a couple of days. Today though, I woke up and it was really, really severe. I have pressure in my ear, ringing, and nothing I do helps. It doesn't hurt or anything, but I'm basically deaf in one ear unless the sound comes from inside my own head.

Things I've tried:
>Yawning
>Chewing gum
>Hard candy
>Alcohol
>hydrogen peroxide
>Q-tips (carefully)
>Jumping up and down (as in, to get rid of water in the ear)
>Suctioning my hand/finger to apply negative pressure

I'd rather not go to a doctor because it'll cost money, and it doesn't hurt, so it can't be TOO bad. Anybody got any ideas?

you can get an ear syringe from a pharmacist or something for like $5. Use warm water and spray it gently into your ear to clear the wax.

You think? I've removed a ton of earwax with a q-tip, and it seems like there isn't any left.

it's called tinnitus it can be caused by many many things. but you should see an otarlrnygolgist also called ENT (ear, nose, throat) specialist

qtips suck because they push the wax up against your eardrum. using warm water it melts the wax a little bit and washes it out. Also dont try to get more out with qtip, good way to bust your eardrum.

If it's wax build up that is causing lots of hearing then he'll prob need to soften it first with oil for a few days first

not even, i used to go to the doctor all the time to get my ears cleaned out, then i got my ear syringe and have never looked back, you dont need oil, just keep gently using water until it goes.

to clarify: I had tinnitus really badly in my right ear last year. It was caused by fluid build up that didn't drain because there was blocking in my Eustachian tubes because I had a "mass" growing in my nasopharynx.

the mass was completely benign it was enlarged adenoids and I had to have a minor surgery to remove them. adenoids are like tonsils and if they get infected or inflamed for whatever reason they can cause a bunch of other problems but it is a routine surgery to remove them. this also happens far less common in someone under the age of 15 or so because by that time the adenoid glands are supposed to become dormant tissue but it can still happen in adults in rarer cases.
I am not saying that adenoids has anything to do with your situation I just mean that tinnitus can be caused by many things but it isn't really anything fatal. there is probably an underlying cause

going to a really loud concert or listening to music in earbuds loudly or damaging the inner ear in some sort of way could lead to tinnitus.

I've tried using steam to loosen it, but followed up with a q-tip (once again, very carefully), and it doesn't seem to help.

also WTF where are all the medFags of Sup Forums tonight? this asshole can get responses for routine tinnitus but nobody replied to my threads about my fucking staph infection

staph kills more people annually than fucking AIDs. fuck you all

FUCKING TINNITUS DIP SHIT GOOGLE IT AND THEN KILL URSELF

dude, are you retarded... steam is literally boiling water, it will burn your ear canal. Just go outside and get the fucking thing. And stop using qtips

What does WebMD say?

Does this help?

I haven't been to see the doctor yet because my healthcare is bullshit (I have an appt this coming thrusday) but I believe I have a staph infection in my nose which I am treating with prescribed Bactroban (mupirocin)..

I am supposed to take the ointment applied to my nose 3x a day for 10 days. I am on the 6th day now and a significant deal of the symptoms I was having in my nose (congestion + localized pain/burning, headached, fatigue) have seemed to clear up pretty nicely.

THE QUESTION is that I think the infection was allowed to spread for too long before I began the treatment and I feel aches in my parotid glands. is this common and can the parotitis clear up if the infection goes away?? Stuff I read on the webs says that I shouldn't take the ointment for more than 10 days because that can strengthen the bacteria.
How long until the parotitis clears up? and what if it doesn't?

apple cider vinegar

are you currently congested?

I meant "steam" as in a fucking shower. Chill the fuck out.

fuck you, every white woman on facebook over the age of 30

The stuff I've tried already. It seems to assume it's sinus-related, but it isn't. I don't have ANY symptoms in the other ear.

OP Need more data...

1-sinus infection symtoms- requires precription drugs

2-earwax build up- over the counter ear cleaners and liquifiers

3- tinnitus- you're fucked...

I get it, but it didn't help the pressure. I really feels like my ear is "stopped up" somehow.

No. Breathing is just fine.

not that guy, but ive had this happen to me in only one ear while having sinus problems. Ive got tinnitus anyway, so i cant say if the ringing is a symptom of something extra.

>3- tinnitus- you're fucked...
Tinnitus can be temporary or chronic you fucking retard I had some that literally left me deaf in one ear but after the tissue blocking my eustachian was removed and a tube was placed in my ear and drained of wax I was doing spectacular. or OP could be a goddam moron that listens to music with earbuds too loud and has damaged the hairs in his ear which is more chronic tinnitus

ON THE OTHER hand I could have a fucking resistant bacteria raging through my bloodstream/head and nobody wants to offer some advice. If I did I will be sure to haunt every last one of you idiots

1) If that were the case, it would be the first one. I've never had a sinus infection. Ever.

2) Possible, but I've taken a lot of wax out of my ear in the last 16+ hours. I kinda think this is the cause, but the things I do to get rid of earwax seem to make it worse.

3) Nah. It's not like the ear-ringing I get from loud concerts and stuff, and not in both ears. I can identify a cause for that stuff.

>ive never had a sinus infection so this can't be symptoms of a sinus infection
>because of all my personal experience with sinus infections
>because ive never had something before, ill never get it

Dude. My breathing is fine. I only have symptoms in one ear. I mean, it COULD be a sinus infection, but it seems pretty unlikely.
