So we all agree this is the greatest album ever made, right?

So we all agree this is the greatest album ever made, right?

cue obnoxious Beatles fans in 3... 2... 1...

yes

if you are a white nu male, yeah

revolver was lightyears ahead of this

yep sure

agreed

there we go

haha no

hahaha so true. Beatles, overall, were a more inspiring, influential and consistently good band. But never as good as pet sounds.

How is it that, in an age where almost all of recorded music is readily available to anyone with Internet access, and the dissemination of knowledge is more widespread than ever, people are actually clinging to the same old canonical fossils even more stubbornly than before? I thought that by now, everyone would think that everything recorded before say, 5 years ago, was completely obsolete and useless.

XD

No, it's still an incredible album though
I have come to appreciate it more after watching love and mercy

insufferable lyrics make it truly unlistenable, like da vinci wrapping up the mona lisa "damn, you knlow what this needs? a ball of shit covered in corn syrup lollipop for her to munch on with one finger up her nose whilest the other tickles her bum...yeah....thats it"
such a shame to waste good music on a shit ideology

one of the worst opinions I've seen on this board (and, obviously, that's saying something)

Great album, not the greatest, shit, it wasn't even the best album from that year.

XD

This but for anything before 90s. Just absolute unlistenable trash.

what do you think is the best album from the year? not trying to antagonize or argue, genuinely curious and would love a rec

absolutely

> music is good or bad purely based on the time that it was created

Yeah that's an opinion that isn't completely moronic and makes a lot of sense!

I hate to call anything the greatest, but it'd be a strong contender if somebody held a gun to my head and asked me that question

yerp

Cmon buddy, I like it too but don't force it

not even the best album of the '60s

still better than the beatles tho

...

I can't enjoy that album anymore knowing that it's about how badly he wants to fuck Anne Frank.

i will never in my life listen to that album but i have to say that it has a very aesthetic cover to it

i think the album only gets recognition because it was doing the indie folky hipster style that went out of fashion in 2008 ten years beforehand

i really like the semen mountaintops song regardless

Booooooooooooooooooring acoustic nasal odyssey

Yes and I'm saying this with the Beatles as my all time favorite band

listen to it!!!

lmao na son

i think i'll pass

I disagree. The indie folksy hipster thing was definitely hugely influenced by this album, but this album is a little messier, less twee (but more eccentric), and ultimately way more interesting. Basically Jeff Tweedy isn't trying to get laid through this album (unless it's from anne frank)

i promise you won't regret it!

Aruba

I had a thing for Anne Frank in 8th grade so i can relate this album on a personal level it's gr8

...

>well-written pop songs with some tape tricks
>genius pop songs with many layers and musical experimentation and technological experimentation, as opposed to just technological experimentation.
Yeah, sure, okay.

Jamaica

pet sounds? more like meh sounds.

/thread

That's not Smile

Once I actually fell in love, yes.

It's one of the best but no it's not /the/ best

>the build up to the second part of let's go away for awhile
This fucking breaks my heart every time I hear it man, don't know what it is

>soundquality is shit
Not how "greatest" works

I kind of want a new remix. What they've just done with Sgt Pepper was great and made me respect the album a lot more to be honest. What's the best version of Pet Sounds in the meantime though?

utter retardation

90s stereo remaster

cheers I'll listen

cmon dude, THAT'S what i call THE GREATEST

Pop from my day is better than pop now. Like clockwork.

This is what autism looks like condensed into a single post.

yes

wow Pet Sounds, literally first time I see it mentioned here! What a rare and original gem

But Revolver and Pet Sounds are from the same year

Smile

>Wrong
>Right
>Hard
>Strong
Wait a sec this is Swans bingo

Not even the best Beach Boys album
Not even the best album from 1966

...

revolver was the greatest album from '66

Beach Boys are shit, though

Freak Out! > Pet Sounds > Revolver

Smile Sessions is better.

The actual greatest Beach Boys album coming through

Surfs up is better.

The historical context of the album is overhyped anyways. There was a lot more interesting stuff happening in LA music scene at the time, beach boys just happened to be a pop band so every babyboomer dumbfuck was like "woooooaaaaaaaaah"

stop reading Rolling Stones magazine lists Sup Forums

The part where it sounds like pebbles being dropped?

>Surfs up is better.

le contrarian face means you have good taste

>look at how cool i am!

Pet Sounds is still a damn solid album, no need to shit talk it.

>surf's up is better

Not with a track like Student Demonstration Time.

Not wrong. Surf's Up is a masterpiece

>Pet Sounds is better
Not with a track like Sloop John B

>momrock with a bit of distortion

I could swear Sup Forums used to have better taste

I think you're confusing them with the Beatles.

yeah. sounds about right.

that's not the queen is dead

this. Even just from a lyrical standpoint, Surf's Up runs rings around anything The Beach Boys did

>Greatest album ever made
>Not Blonde on Blonde
>Not The Velvet Underground and Nico
>Not Disintegration
>Not Loveless
>Not Soundtracks for the blind

Come on man, I mean it is a great albums but there is no way it's better than these.

meme the album

you're historically and musically clueless. try reading a book.

kek
>bit it's old, and this dusty old rock critic told me it was good!
Maybe just listen to the album and decide for yourself
