28, 82k, US, 227k

He's in Silicon Valley. Depending on where you live, you can probably afford a nicer house than he can.

Home prices bottomed. Starting to rise soon. I'm in construction, I see first hand. I'm not Jew either otherwise I'd have a lot more money

Obscene. $2400/mo for a 480 sq ft studio

Don't be all angry. I don't have any kids and banging a 27 year old.

Yea fuck the city man. That's the only way I can afford. Low taxes helps and multiple income

Jesus Christ how horrifying... why the fucking fuck do you Americans accept this looming disaster hanging over your heads ready to financially destroy you over something you have no control over?!!

Did you not have insurance? Please explain.

You investment bankers are an optimistic bunch.

Because we hate anything that remotely sounds like socialism for reasons no one really understands. Also, we hate taxes so we refuse to pay for any kind of social welfare programs.

But hey, our military has some nice hardware

Medical bills are one of my biggest fears. Most people who file for bankruptcy due to medical costs had health insurance. It's fucked up.

A majority of people support single payer, but lobbyists bribe politicians enough that we ended up with the half-assed obamacare (still a lot better than nothing though)

I even was denied disability and NEETBUCKS because they thought I was scamming the system for free money without working with so many requests.

Yeah, I really got them with all my painful surgeries and trying to go back to work in between them.

That money needs to go to the ghettos so they can keep buying drugs and stolen guns, not to someone with a master's in engineering that worked his ass off in school and at his job.

Me too. I am stuck in corporate enterprise Java job working with 98% Indian contractors here on H1B visa. I don't even code, I just review shitty terrible code and design choices all day and then teach them how to do things correctly.

I maintain my sanity by contributing to open source projects and side projects in my spare time.

The system is so unbelievably fucked because no lie, half of the people on disability aren't really all that disabled. It is literally insane how much graft there is in SS disability. The worst part is that guys who legitimately need it like you are denied outright because they are just trying to stop the hemhoraging of money.

You need to get a lawyer that specializes in disability. You will ALWAYS be denied the first time. It takes three or four times but eventually with a lawyer going through all the right channels and the right doctors writing the right things, you will eventually get it.

Everybody eventually gets SS disability if they keep trying hard enough. That is why there are so many people on it that are perfectly capable of working.

Oh I had insurance. I also was prudent with my paychecks, dumped a lot into retirement savings and saved enough so that I could live for 2 years without a job.

Insurance company decided my surgery was not covered because it was "experimental". Experimental means it's only been approved within the past 10 years.

So I had to use my savings, good thing I saved a lot over the few years I worked. Unfortunately neurosurgery is not cheap and I had to have several surgeries. That coupled with not being able to work meant further drain on savings. Eventually was denied disability after my 3rd surgery because it was my 4th request in 2 years as I would go on and off as I tried to return to work.

Eventually all the money was gone, still couldn't work, had to move back to my parents and they helped pay my medical bills since.

I tried to get a job recently even with constant pain, but now the companies don't understand why I have a 3 year gap

wut do you do

probably should ask
age/salary/location/net worth, instead of saving
29/82k/canada/4k in saving

around 330k networth

Hmmm... I am probably always going to call ahead and check if my procedure would be covered before going under the knife now. If not and I need it, I might do the medical tourism thing.

So what I don't understand is why even bother paying the bills? It is an unsecured debt so there is no collateral. It is also a bitch for them to put a lien against your property for not paying.

After a certain point you should have realized it wasn't worth paying the bills.

I am so disheartened with insurance companies, government, doctors, lawyers that I want to avoid it now. I can't though, or never gonna get better.

I found out before the surgery. They wanted that money before doing the surgery.

I did go through 3 appeals with my insurance company while waiting in agonizing pain for months trying to fight for the right to get it paid for by them. In the end I just endured more pain, physically and pscyhologically, by doing the appeals.
