The rockets attempted 61 3pt shots in tonights game against the pelicans

when did basketball get so terrible?

Meme chucking was a mistake

They ruined basketball

What a joke. I can't even begin to imagine how boring it must've been to watch that shit.

You mean when did it get so great?

Yeah the Pelicans are a proper bore

truly they should eliminate the 3 pt line t b h

I thought it was fun

they should move 3pt line back 2 ft

we are in a transition period where offenses have figured out that taking 3's is far more valuable than taking 2's, while defenses have not figured out that defending the 3 is more valuable than defending the 2

teams are exploiting this market inefficiency

eventually, the market will correct itself, and teams will start to properly value defending the 3 over defending the 2: big lumbering 7 foot retards who can't do anything but "protect muh paint" will be phased out in favor of athletic forwards who can close out on shooters, while scouting and youth development will favor skills over size

we will look back on this era and wonder why it took people so long to figure it out, just like how we now look back on the era immediately following the institution of the 3-point line when no one was taking any 3's and say "why did it take them so long"

if this wasn't obvious to you already then you are stupid

yeah they should have charged to the basket and got fouled and shot 100 free throws instead

damn bad basketball....

really making me think

boy those free throws standing still from 15 feet sure are more exciting than 25 foot 3s boy howdy bring back real basketball am i right guys

shut the fuck up, you sound like a cspan faggot

They only did it to break the record.

Pelicans were getting blown the fuck out anyway

If you dont think this is the best the NBA has ever been you are a racist.

how many did they actually make?

also, who else remembers when OKC missed the playoffs and espn tried to hype Anthony Davis as the next lebron lmao

> exploiting market inefficiency
>market will correct itself
>properly value defending blah blah
>scouting youth and development
>proper protocol of fishing my fiscal asshole

you're about to get heemed kid

They made 24, the NBA record for most 3's

Shots should value 1 point and free throws should be reduced from three times or twice to only one

you sound mad

wat

Early 2000s when they changed the driving rules, then nba was run by chuckers like iverson, Kobe, stackhouse, etc.

Dantoni ruined basketball*

Pistol Pete was born too soon
He'd be averaging 60 points a game if he were around now

3s>2s
Simple math

>they actually thought about adding a 4pt line.

this would give popovich a heart attack

The worst part is that they won.

Everything here is right. To those acting like it's not, kill yourself.

All the metrics agree with this analysis, and there's a reason more threes are being taken. It just makes sense when your shooting percentage is only at worst 10 point less. If teams were smart, they'd late round draft elite defenders or pick them up on a free and stick them in the D league for a bit. Perimeter defenders will start going higher in the draft.

The Celtics were literally willing to mortgage their entire future for Justise Winslow. It's already at that point.

>White people
>Being able to compete past 1990

?
>what is post play?
>what are rebounds?

m8 if you play a team who only defends the perimeter literally all you have to do is take one of those "lumbering 7 foot retards" and put them within 10 ft of the basket and they'll literally walk right up to it and put the ball in

you're right that teams need to learn to defend the 3 better but that doesn't mean people are going to stop trying to score the 2. if anything, it means people will refocus on post play, making a big as great an offensive asset as ever.

Even in today's "market", some of the elite players are bigs who dominate in "muh paint". Granted, the stretch 5 is now becoming more of a thing, but if you don't have a player who can defend against Dwight Howard or Demarcus Cousins down low, you're in trouble, no matter how many threes you take (especially if people are defending the three MORE as you claim the market predicts they will).

>inb4 the Hawks and the Kings are some of the worst teams in the league
Cousins is a great player who is surrounded by trash and gets into foul trouble and Howard has been playing below his usual level.

Maybe bigs can't guard as effectively against small ball 3 pt shooters, but that goes both ways, and if you couple effective perimeter defense with a big by the rim you've got contested shots and someone who will pick up the rebound every time.

On the other hand if your team is small and defends the perimeter well, an opposing team simply has to counter by playing forcefully close to the rim with size mismatches.

Yes skills are becoming more important, but you're kidding yourself if you think that size is going to stop being a factor. We're talking sports m8. Size will always enter into the equation.
