Addiction is not a disease. Just like heart disease from fatty food, diabetes from unhealthy lifestyle, herpes and other STIs from sexual intercourse, emphazema from cigerettes, and so many other so-called diseases. I think you people have it mixed up with the word "choice". Because these are all things people choose to do to themselves. It's not like someone's hiding the information on this shit. Now find a hole and die.
I mean, you are scientifically wrong. It's not actually a topic up for debate. You see - People in the world that attended education to a high enough degree got to debate topics like this and decided in this case all of the things you have described are in fact diseases.
Medically, it makes sense these are all in face diseases.

I'm for all drugs being legalized though. It's stupid to waste our LEOs time on drugs that are only killing the people using them. Also opens up the market to capitalize on the folks who get hooked and don't have the mental capacity to stop. I definitely think the drugs should be controlled by the government though so there's no mixing of pointless shit.

Some people are born predisposed to be addicts, genetics and environment contribute to this. I agree people get themselves into this and are idiots for this reason and should shoulder the blame for their situation but it is scientifically a disease just as diabetes is an identifiable but preventable illness. Treatment wouldn't be so damn expensive to help you guys if they're was an open market. Healthy people don't buy drug treatment. Addicted people do. Addicted people generally have no money in my experience. So with an open market drug treatment should cost about 3 broke buttons and all your pocket lint.

Granted, I went to a middle class outpatient program at wake forrest batist hospital that was really good. Tbh treatment without AA/NA or some kind of aftercare recovery program only works like 10% of the time so there's another thing they don't tell you. That's why you see people doing treatment like 6 times at crappy places

I've heard good things about AA/NA. That's true with anything traumatizing though. Support of people who really care and have been through something close to what you've experienced alleviates a lot of problems I imagine.

There's a reason most of the private rehab centers target the upper middle class and the rich. There's no money to be made giving treatment to those who cant afford it. Sure you can reduce prices, but rehabilitation centers cost a lot of money to operate, so you can only reduce prices so much. There's no way you can reduce prices to levels that homeless addicts can afford, and still turn a profit.

You seem to be under the impression that something being classified as a disease means that it absolves a person from any blame or responsibility if they themselves caused it. It has nothing to do with responsibility, however. If i inject aids right into my bloodstream, I now have that disease. It does not change into some other classification because I was the cause. See what I mean? I get your point, as it sounds like calling something a disease means it's not their fault, and it is true that people do use it as an excuse, but medically speaking that is not what it means to be a disease.
