Me and my coworker at a rock club are trying to figure out the first band whose title:
1) did not start with "The", and
2) is not someone in the band's name (with or without "and the" in the title, and
3) is not plural

He says Cream but there MUST be something earlier.
After much googling and neither of us being satisfied I proposed the ultimate decider: asking Sup Forums.

So whatcha got?

Tom york and the radioheads

Love came out around the same time cream did, they might have been first? Other than that, I don't know.

Interdimensional child molesters

Love formed a year before Cream did I think

Ratpack - 1955?

Orquestra Afro-Brasileira
formed 1942

oldest one I can think of

pink floyd technically started in 65, before cream

Then formed in 64 and released their first album in 65

However you could further restrict your criteria to no pronouns or proper names i.e. Them, Pink Floyd

Also Ratpack kind of qualifies as plural. Them is pretty damn close though.

Fucking autocorrect

Then = Them

...

>Ratpack
"The" Ratpack

The first two Ink Spots albums were released under the name "Ink Spots" before switching to "The Ink Spots," they formed in the 30s

The world is a beautiful place and I'm no longer afraid to die

plural

Bach

didn't they start as The Pink Floyd

I think that's gonna qualify as plural

1971 wtf are you doing

And I found another earlier musician named Pink: Pink Anderson

Even though Them is technically a plural I think thats the missing link. Still pretty different from Cream though so I stjll think theyre a really good call.

Meaning I think Cream is still a good call

Yeah, Love gets it.
