Why did they ruin it Sup Forums?

Why did they ruin it Sup Forums?

Because turn based isometric stat-heavy RPGs don't sell well.

Also because investing more in a writing and game-design team would take away resources from environments, graphics, and marketing. Both are profit generating parts of a game, of course, but one much more so than another.

>TL;DR: Profitability in an increasingly mass-market, highly competitive industry

You should try the game Enderal, its a mod that transforms skyrim into a new game. Probably one of the greatest games I've ever played

right, but NV was amazing, and I really enjoyed 3. NV had the Superior gameplay and RPG side, but I loved FO3's vibe/color pallet/feel

4 is just... bad.

>get quest to go to place
>go to place
>kill everyone
>rinse and repeat

if my laptop could handle skyrim I would.

Right now I'm a filthy console peasant.

>3's color pallet

you mean green?

yeah, I guess. It was just something about the feeling of 3

I have a think for green on black.

I have a writing processor that lets you change it so I have a black screen and green text like old pcs and that's how I do my writing.

i fucking love fallout 4
its way easier to be completely immersed in that world than it is to be immersed into skyrim

Sold like hotcakes though. WAY outsold NV and 3 (combined, even). Hell, it outsold fucking Skyrim.

I agree that they're better, but the market preferred 4 because the market likes shiny new things that aren't especially challenging. I know that sounds elitist and vaugely anti-capitalist, and I don't mean it to, it's just the way things are. The target market of a successful game company is a late teens-early 20s casual gamer with some disposable income, high expectations for graphics, middle-to-low expectations for gameplay or atmosphere, and who see video games as a casual hobby. So Bethesda gives them what they want.

it sold well because it had built up a cult because of the other games. There was a solid fan base that people jumped on when Fallout 4 was announced

Recently started playing it and it seems like a good game but a terrible fallout game.

For me at least new vegas is the bar for fallout games and I hope Bethesda allows obsidian to take their shiny new thing and make a damn fallout game with it

Made by 2 different game companies underage b& newfag

It really feels like the took everything that made fallout unique and interesting and sanded it down to make it appealing to a general audience

I think that played into it, of course, but that alone doesn't explain the sales. Fallout 3 didn't sell the way it did because of the cult of Fallout classic (if anything, it had to build a whole new fandom due to the outrage after they shifted away from turn-based iso). They both succeeded because they appealed first to normie preferences for shiny new graphics. They succeeded proportionally to how much they focused on that vs other elements (like gameplay).

If your laptop can't handle skyrim I wouldn't be surprised if the console you're referring to is a wii or a PS2

This is my exact struggle. My weak ass laptop barely plays Heroes of the Storm for the stupid Nexus Challenge.

I get that feeling a lot, it seems now everytime I see fallout mentioned or someone says they love fallout they're always talking about 4 and barely know the others exist

Although your mighty nazi dubz I disagree

A laptop for work shouldnt be able to play games. If it can you prioritize the wrong hardware.

i hated it at first with everyone else
i put like 20 hours into it and then stopped playing for over 2 years.
i just came back to it this year and ive put a good 150 hours in. i really do think its fun if you dont compare it to any other game haha

I think there's a fairly solid rumor Obsidian is making a new Fallout

Still the same franchise so it's 110% fair to compare

this, they made it too generic

Fallout 3 was came out to a new audience and to a world that hadn't really heard of Fallout in a while if at all. You combine that with NV and Skyrim and all the hype that was building up before it was even announced (See survivor 2299) and it was the perfect storm

It's not meant for games at all

>barely know the others exist
pls god no, don't tell me that

Mine can't either and is a good laptop just have really any ability to play games. It's a basic HP notebook with the touch screen that can fold into tablet mode. Needed a laptop for school and didn't feel like wasting a ton on a higher end that wouldn't play new games anyways.

because they knew fans/modders would do half of their work for them for free

Doesn't have *

I leiked the minecraft mode

I don't know about skyrim but I felt it was way easier to get immersed in fallout new vegas simply because of the amount of role playing and character specialisation you can do, with fallout 4 though you're always the same character and none of your specialising goes into your dioluge options (into, chr, med, etc) and that makes it really limiting to make your own character in an rpg

Settlements could have and should have been amazing, not when it's half the fucking game tho.

...

>immersive

how is an RPG where every dialogue option is 'yes, no(which the game takes as yes regardless) and sarcastic yes' immersive. Why do I have to find my son? Why do all of my dialogue options boil down to 'WHERE'S SHAUN'? Why do I have to be a dad? What if I'm playing a nigger? That doesn't make any fucking sense. Why can't I answer Piper's first question with a sarcastic response AND a bullet?

In NV, you're a courier, sure- but you can be much more than that THE INSTANT YOU WALK OUT OF THE HOUSE. You can be the warrior of a legion of romeaboos, or a cowboy that can barely talk and just hits shit with a baseball bat, or some usurper of the ancap paradise with a legion of robots behind you.

I bought FO4 and I was intensely disappointed. The only sway dialogue options hold are what missions you do, what ending you do, and when. The voice acting of the main character is unnecessary- the voices are also quite bland and uninteresting, especially the female's. I can just picture this dumb cunt cringing at all of the stupid lines she's saying and asking hourly how much she was getting paid.

You cant be an asshole. You should always be able to be the asshole. Fuck you Todd.

That's another thing. The Bethesda Fallouts have too much a story, but their Eldar Scrolls are so open. WTF?

Also, I don't feel that in 4 you're character had the frantic motivation a person who lost their child would have IRL. It's so dumb and bad

This too

I think for the next fallout game that's made by Bethesda all people involved need to sit down watch mad Max, a boy and his dog, at least get a little summary of fo1&2 take a look at project van buren and start development after that

you can be immersed in a games world without roleplaying
i dont see it as a roleplaying game
you do and thats why it ruins it for you
its not a roleplaying game at all
but thats not the deciding factor in what makes a good game for me

I've put 200 hours into 3 and NV each, and about 70 into 4. I can't stand 4. I finished it and won't ever replay it. I knew right at the beginning when you get power armor and a minigun that this game was going to fuck suck. The characters are shit, the plot is shit, the crafting and base building bullshit is shit, the RPG experience is shit. It's utter shit.

It's not even that. Just don't pigeon hole the character. If they made the Fallout story as open as they did with Skyrim(shit's going down but you have no "obligation" to go and do anything) it would be 1000x better.

Also, less "go here and kill these people" quests.

Those hour metrics are going to teach them a lot I hope.

Fo4 it's a piece of shit, its DLCs are mostly workbench crap
Hope the devs get buried alive

This. Also they took away the faction and karma system that told you when you were good and bad and who's side you were on.

The karma system was a major bummer, but the skill system is what pissed me off the most

far harbor and nuka world both far larger than solstheim with way more content
then theres the mechanist dlc
and then the workshop
so not really

Fallout 4 feels like and old friend coming to your house after a long time and opening the door to find him in a wheelchair with his arms and legs cut off, he's drooling out the side of his mouth and he has a screwdriver sticking out of his head with the words 'base building' written on it, I mean it's a perfectly fine screw driver it just shouldn't be jammed in my friends head, and why was his arms and legs amputated? Oh so he could fit in a bland cardboard box.

I didn't read this thrade so forgive me Sup Forumsrother's if this is a repeat but...

Pip boy glitch. 'nuff said.

I mean, the screw driver would be great if it was in his hand, but I know what you mean

what?

Every time you enter a powar armor, there is a chance when you exit that your pip boy wont open. It is called the "invisible pip boy bug." Google it if you want. Bethesda nevar fixed it or even acknowledged it. It infects peoples games slowly with them complaining every year with no fix. It ruined my game as well.

well never happend to me. wait... i never used power armor. maybe thats why. maybe.

yeah power armor is for pussies

ayyy hail to the king baby

>not mentioning the entire new Settlement aspect
I see how it could seem tedious, it makes you spend a lot more time looking for shit. I really enjoy games that allow me to build things, .and even though the FO4 settlement building feels sort of clunky, it's definitely better than how Skyrim did it with the add-on.

The settlement could've been great, but they made it seem like the sole focus of the game, it was like Fallout: Minecraft or some shit

I mainly hate fo4 and fo3 (to a much much much lesser extent) cause it lacks the witty, dry, then off the wall writing.

Then again, i grew up playing fo1 and fo2.

I would love to play the old games, but I can never get more than 5 mins before getting killed and it just kills all motivation for me.

>inb4 basic bitch get gud

I know, leave me alone

I'd like to get my hands on a copy of 1/2 literally cant find one anywhere, any help?

Its alot like dark souls. You die, and you learn what not to do because of it.

Im not gunna tell you to get good, merely gunna say to give it another chance.

Unless you hate dark souls too, in which i understand you not trying again.

Side note, you really need to make sure your character comes out right. You cant willy nilly make some half and half class. Its like an old tabletop. You follow the guideline or you fall behind

I think you ruined it for yourself. You didn't just take the game as it is. You tried looking for something that it's not and forgot to actually enjoy it for what it is.

Good old games

If you mean physical, fuck you, you cant have mine.

I practically brought my copy of the how to survive (the giant 200 page game.manuel) everywhere way back when i got it

Try steam?

good old games.

As for physical, ebay?

never played dark souls actually

Its a learning curve, and you should start with two if one is a bit too hard for you

I was just wondering if theres any known and selling physicals out there, havent played them since i was like 17 but it was at a friends house so i never got to play it much.
trips looks like im buying it on steam
didnt try ebay think im retarded
