Why is the British one in French?

Why is the Belgian one in French?

Portugal is the best in every way. Love you Portugal!

Norman French was the primary language of the English Royal Court and ruling class following the rule of William the Conqueror of Normandy and later the Plantagenets

shit reddit map
"ditosa" means blessed, lucky, not happy
"constantia" means constancy, perseverance, not consistency

>Finlands motto is Hyva Suomi
>good Finland

Bravo Finns. You are as creative words as you are with food. Which is to say, not at all.

France cucking Germanic countries since 1066

>San Marino
>Liberty
ok

Normas are the ruling high class.

I think this is one of the few times were the spanish one is based at something. The rest are so generic and cliché.

>germany
>having unity, justice, or freedom

The Netherlands will maintain.

>tfw /noteuropean/ now
Thanks Czech poster

>one for all all for one.
for poland it would be
>god, honor, fatherland

>Plus Ultra
thats a fascist motto.
all mottos in spain were removed with the transition to democracy. theres no motto.

The Belgian motto used to be our motto during our republican times. Except ours was in Dutch.

The current Dutch one is the motto of the royal family.

>Strength is in unity
>Unity makes strength
>Unity makes strength (again)
>Strength united is stronger

Anglos hiding in shame.

>Lithuania
>Freedom, unity, prosperity
lol

I unironically like the spanish one. Plus Ultra sounds so heroic.

Lad, it is even in the shield. It's quite based

Georgians are our long lost brothers.

Wut? The fascist motto was "una, grande y libre". "Plus ultra" is from Carlos I and it's official considering it's in the coat of arms of Spain.

boe.es/buscar/doc.php?id=BOE-A-1981-24155

the EU motto should have been
>Strength through unity, united in diversity.
instead of just
>United in diversity.

I like the Greek motto, it's similar to my state's. "Live free or die"

It's the motto of revolutionaries against the Ottomans and other tyrants.
It suits america.

>spanish one

nice

Portugal's is part of its national Epic Poem: "Os Lusíadas".

It's from the 3rd chapter where Camões describes the countries of Europe east to West and ends at Portugal:

Eis aqui, quase cume da cabeça
De Europa toda, o Reino Lusitano,
Onde a terra se acaba e o mar começa,
E onde Febo repousa no Oceano.

It's pretty cool, but "ditosa" is more "fortunate" than "happy" in the context.

u wot m8
Plus Ultra was the motto of the 2nd Republic and it was reinstated after the Franco dictatorship ended. We even had a joint military brigade with Latin American nations in Iraq called Brigada Plus Ultra.

Norway's one sound cool desu

Isn't it a faux-answer to a Latin phrase close to "no further beyond", to which Spain finds something further beyond (that being America, at the time)

Yes, exactly

It's pretty cool and succinct, actually. Kind of badass.

Brazil did the same with "Ordem e Progresso", since it comes from something like "Amor por primeiro, depois Ordem e Progresso" (First love, then order and progress), implying that they already have the more important of the three, love, presenting the other two as a bonus more than a goal, but they get shat on all the time for it. Should've gone with Latin, I guess.

what did armenia mean by this

i-it's not french it's norman

I thought the German one was "Deutschland Über Alles".

>Luxembourg: Fuck off

Do you guys see my regional flag ?
(for people with "extra flag for Sup Forums" installed)

...

too racist
and after 2 world wars
germs know about their place

From what I remember thas nazi, it's why their anthem is called Deutschlandslied and not Deutschland uber alles

You can always join our eternal Kingdom.

I like Greece, not holland.

...

>Estonia: no official motto
>Finland: no official motto

Why so faggy rest of Europe?

Through reason or force
That's ours, kinda brutal

nope

fucking normies

two non-countries

Should be "Bóg, Honor, Ojczyzna (God, Honor, Fatherland)" for Poland

that covers germany and sweden, now explain the rest of it

>Andorra

i looked at the map
only non countries dont have a motto

That's not portugal's motto b-baka
This is:
''In hoc signo vinces''-In this sign you shall conquer
or
''Orgulhosamente sós''-Proudly Alone

youtube.com/watch?v=XvR-kTUad6U
Yours is literally an anime catchphrase. It symbolises that you are all weebs.

I don't think taking ''non'' from a popular saying is something to be proud off.
The original saying is way cooler.
The fact that you say''Plus ultra'' even though Portugal and azores more western than the straits of gibraltar is pretty funny

Because both are the only two truly relevant countries in Europe.

>Libertas
bland and cringy, just like this shithole in the last 150 years

Says the ouiaboo, literally a tsundere.

Your motto should be something like :''Veni, vidi, vici''

SeeNo correlation.

Wiki tells that 1936 there was a proposed motto "Vapaa, Vankka, Vakaa", which translates to " Free, Steadfast, Stable".

Have the japanese government already issued a prossecution or something?
I mean,Plus ultra can only mean the motto of spain,in no other way would people use it for something else

Frexit, brother.
Now and always.

Saudi arabia motto is pretty based:
''There is no God other than God and Muhammad is His Prophet''

>Britain
>The Netherlands
>Belgium
GAULED

>You, Albania, give me honor, give me the name Albanian

>Our language is a treasure''
B-but Moldova,you speak romanian...

There is nothing wrong with speaking French.

>truth prevails

A while back there was a tennis tournament where the American staff started playing the German anthem because a German player was up. However, the Americans started from the first stanza (where you'd logically start), which starts with "Deutschland über alles". In modern Germany the first stanza is deemed "Nazi" so they usually start from the third stanza ("Einigheit und Recht und Freiheit"). The female German tennis player literally started CRYING because of this.

>Things went from bad to worse for Julia Görges, who was in tears during the national anthem.

Yes, this is real. Yes, this happened this year.

>Liberty or death
>Freedom or death

What do they mean by this

Get's me thinkin

SPEN has the dopest one

how is that a motto? its just a line from camoes

>this is my beloved happy fatherland

awwwwwww that is SO ADORABLE

>We wish to remain what we are

Why so lame, Luxembourg?

It's not our fucking motto...
Our motto is :''In hoc signo vinces'' or ''Proudly Alone''

>Cutetugal

Buk, Humor, Obczyzna
Beech, Humor, Exile

Lots of game developers in Europe.

>''Proudly Alone''

CUTE!

I much prefer the old motto: "Duty above all else".

nice portugal

correct

I'm sure it is.
''In hoc signo vinces'' was the motto back when Portugal was a kingdom
"Orgulhosamente sós" has never been a motto afaik

Albania has the best one

>''Proudly Alone''

You're never alone.

Spanish education ladies and gentlemen.

What a country, flooded with literal retards like that poster.

>Everything for Norway.
Bit fucking obnoxious.

youtube.com/watch?v=OuUpOerfT2I

Don't know about the other royal mottos, but ours is the one that was chosen by the king at the time of his ascension. His grandfather had a differemt one, and so will his daughter. It's not a permanent fixture, it's the individual king's motto, not the Crown's.

Motto of Serbia:

Samo Sloga Srbina Spasava
Only unity saves the Serbs

this

Libertas is not the motto of Italy.
there is no offical motto.

The Savoy family had one during the Kingdom of Italy (1861-1946)
FERT, FERT, FERT

It has an unclear origin, possibly an acronym of
Fortitudo Eius Rhodum Tenuit

(not joking)

More like ”Vapaa, vankka, vakaa”.

And it's "Free, firm, stable".

>And it's "Free, firm, stable".
like my dick

Now Im being dead serious, why the fuck is the netherland one in french exactly ?

It has an history behind and that's more than what can say other countried about their motto, for example yours.

But modern Italy never came, saw, or conquered anything

Finnish motto is "Aisuroi, Aisuroi!"
