MTG thread

MTG thread

Just got my first Amonkhet box, going through it now. Have you anons gotten yours yet? What decks are you working on? Do you play standard, edh, vintage, modern? Post your favorite cards and talk about magic. Lets get a thread going!!!

I opened 3 pretty nice cards in my first box. Got a big shield gardna, blue eyes white shining dragon, and a polymerization. Rest was some gay ass magic cards tho

I'd insult you but this is an anime site so... Congrats I guess?

fukkin slob

Clean up your area you dirty jew faggot

It is clean, just not autistic like you two.

Why are you so filthy?

Haven't played much since these little guys were relevant. Shop near my house closed down didn't feel like doing 45 minutes to find people to play with.

Omg I just pulled a foil wrath of god!!!

pick up your trash you still have a SOI check card from a year ago on the floor.

control looks good for standard atm, esp at local level.

toolkits are a terrible product unless you want common and uncommons for some reason and ultra pro sleeves suck.

and you overcooked your bacon

well you might break even with the box if you paid 90$ or so for it then

Damn. Was that card playable in standard? What kind of demon would you summon with that card? I'm relatively new. I just started playing during Eldritch Moon

sounds nice. I think I will have to sell all my mtg cards because I am a poorfag... I was thinking $100 for my collection... it's not much, but I think the price is fair enough I should sell it quickly. Feels bad though, since i really am into egyptian things and can't afford the new set.

>What decks are you working on?
Since Miracles is kill, I have a pile of expensive blue/land cards sitting around.

Working on the following Legacy decks:
>Goblins
>Merfolk
>Sneak and Show
>Painter (kinda got fucked by top ban too, so might give up)

Really been enjoying Aluren and B/R reanimator lately.

Yea yeah depression is a bitch and makes you lazy and whatnot.

I did play Dimir control during kaladesh and aether revolt which was great.

is a box of 36 considered a toolkit? I haven't been playing long enough or been brave enough to buy specific cards from my shop. First time buy I g ultrapro I usually get double matte.

Crispy bacon is deliciois
I paid 100 but I've only opened half the box so far

why do ultra pro sleeves suck? which do you use?

agree with the rest of your points

Dude. I know your pain. Ive had to sell my awesome Shadows over innistrad and Eldritch moon collections to make rent and bills before. Do you have any good gaming shops nearby or are you thinking of selling online?

looks like a kaladesh toolkit in the back, pricewise singles is the way to go as long as you know what you want to play censor and having essence scatter makes control so much better than it was before

I'll just leave this here.

Nice breakfast opie

I like the double sided matte BCW feel, but the backs are see through sorta. Dragonshield seems decent.

Also, the BCW perfect fits are utter shit. 1/3 are too small and just get thrown away.

I'd marry whoever that is.

>tfw only normal gf who isn't into stuff like DND or MTG.

my preference it to dragon shields have not split a single one ever in five years. but KMC also makes excellent ones, its more preference than anything else as a bonus dragon shield boxes usually come with 4-5 extra sleeves

all of my wut

MtG is pay 2 win, it's shit.

we do need more magic porn. Even more magic cosplay

same as with regular size sleeves man, KMC perfect or dragon shield.

no its pay to play. If you're shit with a expensive deck, you're still shit and will lose to cheap ass decks. Skill & knowledge>cards

I bet legacy is a lot of fun. Goblins can be really really fucking annoying to play against I had a dude get 40 40/40 goblin tokens in an edu game before. How long have you been playing?

Yeah that toolkit was the first thing I picked up to get into mtg, at a bookstore. I know they're a wasted of cash now.

I pulled two essence scatters and 4 cancels since I've opened my box. Really hyped

>tfw no naked gf to enjoy collection with

Anyone else have piles of this stuff just sitting around doing nothing?

I kept it in case of wanting to draft in the future, but was younger and real life is found to be too busy for drafting all this.

that's why i only play drafts and sealed (pre-release)

i've never seen BCW in a shop around here. KMC is shitty as hell. I use it for drafting because I'll end up throwing them out in a couple of months anyway. I'm content with Ultra Pro. Just bought Dragonshield which seems nice too.

I play edh, currently running a mono black deck and a atraxa infect deck

Learning modern as of this month.. What do you think? Last cards just came in the mail.

I've only played Goblins a few times, but I do enjoy the occasional creature deck, which is much better with Miracles gone.

Started playing in 1995 when Revised, The Dark, and Fallen Empires were the newest sets. If I started any earlier I probably would have quit because those sets are extremely terrible.

Pic related is probably my favorite card. So many silly things to do with it, makes awful cards better by giving them to others.

If I was gonna blind buy your collection just based on that pic. I'd pay around $1000 cash.

im running something similar to that. naya burn but casual mode

Any suggestions for Jeskai?

Lol. Even if that whole pile was full of common crap, $1000 is an insulting offer.

Why is this shit so expensive?

I'm not familiar with Modern, but I would probably prefer to have fetches to color fix.

just research. ive been playing off and on for a while and just recently decided to build up a burn deck for casual with some dudes i found out played. researched a bit and built a deck and crushed them. they are all newbs though and dont know how to look at popular deck builds. find what works for you and what you like in whatever build you try to make.

I'm sorry for your loss user, and I was thinking of first trying to sell it in town, but I live in a very small town and I doubt there'd be much interest, so my second choice would be online.

Thanks man!

Who's your commander?

I bet you have a lot of nice cards and a huge collection. What was miracles all about?

Here's a legendary I just pulled

I'm more curious to see what block those Pre-release boxes are, before i'd make an offer

>Have you anons gotten yours yet?
No. The only sealed product I've gotten in recent years was a case of Khans.

>What decks are you working on?
None, really. Working on a deck usually only takes a day or two, unless I'm missing cards--then it takes a week.

>Do you play standard, edh, vintage, modern?
Modern is my main gig. There's legacy about an hour away, but Tuesday night is not a good time for me.

>Post your favorite cards and talk about magic.
I suppose my favorites are Workshop, Emrakul, and Arcbound Ravager.

Best guess

Another cool pull

>cool pull
Shit looks unplayable to me.

MtG invented pay to win AND micro-transactions.

Play limited and only limited. Find the cheapest drafts you can possibly find.

It's a deckbuilding game first, but people want to be able to buy wins.

i play black/white
idk something about white and black mixing^^

Bontu looks solid. I can think of several EDH decks it would go well in.

>I bet you have a lot of nice cards and a huge collection. What was miracles all about?
Probably too large of a collection. Only reason I can make all these legacy decks is I got all of the parts when the sets came out so it was all cheap (blue duals under $2 and so on)

Miracles used the miracle mechanic on Terminus, and to a lesser extent entreat the angels. With Sensei's Divining top the deck effectively gets to keep the best cards in its hand on top of the library where they can't be interacted with. Uber-control using counterbalance along with the top. The deck is amazing when skillfully piloted, but agonizing if anyone else uses it. Games took forever from repeated top uses, fetches, ponders, etc.

Its pretty cool actually, a must if you are playing blue in Commander and it can shine in Standard and kitchentable.

Modern though, most likely not. Aether Vial fulfills a similar function, but this may slot in decks with higher variance of permanent types or spell-heavy control decks. Eh, who knows?

All I can say, it's going to be one of those cards that multiply their value several times in around 5 years. It's just too good to forego in Commander.

It's almost like without constructed formats the cards would hold no long term value
Get a job, once you have more than $5/week income, a playset of something like snaps/hierarchs isn't that unreasonable. Plus , the people who bitch about pay to win in mtg have never used the cards they complain about. Once you actually use a hierarch, you'll understand why she's 60 bucks.
Modern infect/affinity right now, brewing janky modern mono-green control and then almost done building dredge

I don't need the cards to have value in order to play the game.

I play limited and support the shop. Everyone else buys singles online and supports the heebs at wizards.

Is it because those are your two favorite colors or do you have A strategy in mind with them? Black is death and power and white is protection and armies. Find a way to fuse those properties together.

That is so sick. That's the type of level I hope to get to where you can always have the upper hand.
What's it like to get into magic in the beginning? Does it make it easier to understand?

i tried my decks against friends (we're all super new since amonkhet) and i feel like black/white is good because i gain health and monsters while denying the enemy both (that and IR porn is my thing lowkey)

>The deck is amazing when skillfully piloted, but agonizing if anyone else uses it.
I've only played against Miracles once and first turn Chalice made it the opposite of agonizing.

Shops make waaaay more money selling singles.

A box costs the store ~$70-$75 and many store sell them for $90, so not much profit. I've never seen anyone willing to pay $144 + tax for a standard box that anyone can get for $80-$90 online.

>implying you aren't supporting the heebs at wizards even more directly by doing all the drafts you can, rather than by obtaining cards through secondary markets
gr8 b8 m8
It's almost like if you're at a store worth anything, they'll run solid constructed events
You might not need the cards to have value, but guess what? They need to in order for the game to continue

> A box costs the store ~$70-$75 and many store sell them for $90

When I draft at the shop I end up paying $3 to $3.33 per pack on average.

Drafters pay $120 per box.

I just hand my shit back into the shop when it's over. It's not practical for me to try and extract value from these $2-3 cards, but the shop can derive additional value there.

> They need to in order for the game to continue

They don't.

Magic could die today and it would be reborn as something else. The rules and groundwork already exist, and there's nothing stopping someone from making a copycat game that doesn't put the screws to the customers.

>What's it like to get into magic in the beginning? Does it make it easier to understand?
Its probably easier to understand because many of the newer mechanics are just rehashed old ideas. However, you can take a couple year break and try to get back into it and all the standard cards will look like another game.

I wasn't at the very begining, a year earlier and I would have. What I'd heard was nobody could buy the product because it would instantly be sold out everywhere. WOTC vastly underestimated the success of the game which is why Alpha, Beta, and Unlimited were all printed within a few months. Then came revised, banned lists, reprints and everyone said the game was dead. Game has died a thousand times since.

Prices were bad becuase the price guides were based on the game store prices and not the demand prices. Once the internet (specidfically eBay) became a market, the prices fell more into the supply and demand realm we see today.

I also still remember not wanting to buy the blue duals or unlimited duals because they cost $1 more than the others. I also lived on grass cutting revenue so there wasn't much money to go around then.

Also, Inquest was a hilarious gaming magazine. It's evaluation and deck advice was questionable at best, but the comedy portions were gold. Even today there isn't magic comedy articles like those. Fucking Rick Swan and his cat Cow-Nose.

That's the best time to join, with friends. Any combination is good and has its place I'm glad you found yours

If you can disrupt their engine early enough, then its a pretty easy win. Chalice turn 1 seems difficult game 1 for miracles to deal with. Doubt many would main a councils or wear//tear

>Drafters pay $120 per box.
That is awful pricing, I can't imagine why anyone would do that. Just buy a box online and draft for $40 less.

I'm all for supporting the local game stores, but I am not going to support them price gouging me.

yeah, i only played like wait, since the release i played like 15 times and it's so much fun

also is that like tribes for the lore? i'm reading amonkhet lore rn but is there more? also i'm a super big fan of the old art, is there a (cheap) way to get those retro looking cards?

Except copyright infringement and the fact that MtG is the most popular tcg on earth.
There's a reason we didn't all jump ship to Force of Waifus

You know he will never get ass some ass with that shi..

Yeah, WOTC has had a long history of suppressing competitors from copying many of magic's attributes. Even still you can tell most modern tcgs are copying the magic mold best they can.

That's freaking awesome man. If you want more practice or to play when no one else is around play mtgo on console or pc.

It is tribes for the lore. Its only what they come out with though. And the only way to get cheap cards is to buy fakes :/ which is frowned upon.

It does correspond with the lore

Going to GP Vegas for modern and legacy and got an invite to the SCG invitational but I don't play standard so may not go

Post proof or gtfo

Anyone can go to a GP, and proof of invitational would require giving my name

playing b/w control in standard with a ton of walkers

gonna be doing an amonkhet draft with some friends soon, and a sealed pptq this weekend

Censor the personal information and post the invite nigger

damn i heard they were expensive, i might look into getting some in the future when i work then ;^;

It's posted on their website with names+DCI only, this is the only other correspondence I have with them.

Winning a like 40 man IQ isn't that impressive

Used this in my standard deck. Nothing special but it wrecked at the time.

But I'd use this and...

This when I'd play for fun. Fucking destroyed the kids at the shop.
