the old system with only champions CL, Cup Winners Cup for cup winners and UEFA cup for the rest was better than the current one. All 3 competitions had high level and were relevant.
But the thing that ruined european football in the long run was the Bosman ruling and EU. There should be foreigner limits in every league, only 3 per team allowed. But of course that would promote nationalism, isolationism instead of globalism and multi-kulti. Thanks jews!

To fix the Champions League
Start with 32. First round is knockout over 2 legs. Straight away you have very important games.
Then 4 groups of 4. Most of the weaker teams will lose the first round so you are left with the best teams in europe. Now you have exciting group stage
