Post underrated video games with great lore and world building
I choose Jak and Daxter (especially because of the two sequels)

Jak 2 had such a great environment
Fuck, all of them did

Sly and Cooper was cool

Yeah recently replayed the three of them on my laptop, really great experience

Wow another games thread just took off, guess this one will be buried rip

The Jak & daxter trilogy still remains my alltime fav game series, god i hope a 4th one is made someday

Too many people shit on this game for no reason. It was my first look into Warhammer 40,000.

Dude, if you think the game was good you need to read the novel.

Firewarrior and Lord of the Night (both 40k and by Simon Spurrier) are some of the best fiction I've ever read.

That was a great game, tau are the best race

From the other thread, kind of related

Um, what i liked in the game were the space marines. That is what really drove my into 40k.

They are good as far as 40k novels go. But my best were The Beast and recent Master of Mankind.

Fuck yeah, loved every part of the Jak games, I loved the third one the most

Am i the only one who liked this game? It was not the best but it was quite good.

One of the biggest "Oh shit" moments of my life

Not exactly underrated, however didn't had the attention it deserved.

At least, here is plenty of fans.

Care to explain how?
I assume emulator?

Yes, PCSX2, version 1.21, thats where I recorded the Jak screenshots (youll notice they dont look perfect, theres a shadow error coming from the character)

did you get it to emulate without artifacting at a good framerate? also how?

Basically downloaded a version of PCSX2 from the piratebay which came with BIOS prepacked, then updated to 1.21 and configured everything

My laptop is pretty crappy by 2016 standards (macbook pro running windows, 8GB ram, 1 GB Vram) But it gets the job done

Played through the God of War games, Ratchet and Clank, Jak, Sly, Devil May Cry 3, GTA SA, and they all work fine with little slowdown, but some have graphical issues

Apparently they're putting out the games on ps4 soonish.
I'm hoping they do the same for Sly Cooper because Jak and Sly made up the majority of my childhood and teenage years

Framerate for God of War, GTA, Devil may cry is perfect, minor amounts of lag from time to time

Jak and Ratchet and Clank are a different story because the texturing they use doesnt play nice with non PS2 hardware, you can make it run fast, but with crappy textures, but I think its still worth it to be able to replay these without having to fork over money for another ps3 or ps4 for glitched ports of the games with broken animations and useless crap

But there is a fix for the texturing issue you can see on youtube, someone got it working in 4K for those games if you look around

Yeah they are, but with PS2 emulation making such progress, and the history of glitchy rereleases of nostalgic games, and the fact that they will ask us to buy them again for PS4 when I just bought the for PS3 five years ago doesnt rub me the right way

Yea I don't like it either too much. But it's perfect for the small majority that don't have a gaming PC and haven't bought the remastered PS3 version. I came in at the end of the PS3 so most of my ps3 games are the really big sellers like infamous and Skate 3
Not much of a market, but I guess I'm the target audience

Which one should I start with?

I love these games so much that I hunted down and bought a hard copy of each game.
Some of my best gaming in shadow if chernobyl

Yeah fair enough, but they could implement backwards compatibility so that old games could just work on new consoles.

This really ticks me off when you remember that first PS3 models had this for PS1 and PS2, but they silently got rid of PS2 at some point, then threw PS1 out by the time the slim came out. Perfect enough timing for their first ps2 rerelease btw

clear sky,
shadow of chernobyl,
call of pripyat

Oh it's a bunch of shit user, I'll give you that.
I still have my PS2, but it's still shitty they phased it out. The only good thing to come out of those stupid rereleases they did was that it brought down the prices of things like ff7 and MegaMan Legends in my town. Ff7 used to be like 80 bucks and MegaMan Legends was in the hundreds in terms of prices, but the minute the PS3 started selling rereleases they dropped tremendously.
Then again, I live in the middle of nowhere so that may have something to do with it.
Anyway, I agree, there are things they could've done differently

Yeah, same thing with me
I grew up in the UAE, where games price points were beyond unfair. Used PS1 games cost 3 times their original retail price, when they would cost 5 bucks if sold in the US or UK.

And people have no choice but to buy it because its so rare, so piracy isnt looked down upon in those regions

bumping, both of these have great environments

the Legacy of Kain series from:
Legacy of kain Blood Omen
Blood Omen 2
Soul Reaver
Soul Reaver 2
Legacy of Kain: Defiance

I love the story, the only issue is later on in the games i guess they were trying knew things with gameplay and the camera angles so it gets very iffy.

(so many parts in the series just gonna post only this one)

jak and daxter was the best hands down for all time imo no doubt about it

the ratatoille video game

youtube.com/watch?v=4DOKzTHaPfM
One of the most epic intros to a game ever, ill never forget that first confrontation with Kain

"Henshin A Go-Go, Baby!"

oh yea i remember seeing that for the first time its rememberable same with the music ( tony jay though )

Hell yeah tony Jay made that

I miss Clover and their old wacky as shit games

Good to see Bayonetta on PC was such a success, honestly one of the most gracefully ported games i've ever played, I immediately felt bad about pirating it and went to buy a copy ASAP

And if my info is right, this group is linked to the Nier games...you know, that one that is the game of the year this year? I swear they're allergic to making bad games.

FFS I played the everloving piss out of this and VJ2, got Redhot Rumble, which was an entertaining fighter, but I missed out on the DS game.

I had VJ1 and 2 down to a science, and art
Total mastery, I can't even describe how badly I got absorbed into those 2 games

youtu.be/v6NLCKImqUQ
Favorite song in the whole game right here, loved Red Hot Rumble, and this song gave me some serious Devil May Cry vibes, but with a Viewtiful Joe twist

they fucked up the lore and world building in the sequels. the geography couldnt have changed that much in just 100 years. jak 2 and 3 were a mess that stained the perfection of the first.

You and me both. Unique abilities and look, entertaining villains, unique art. Capcom was stupid for letting this one go. All the games were successes and pretty universally loved. Now they just force deadlines for underdeveloped fighters.

...

Definitely sounds like a racing type soundtrack for me. Really feel the Viewtiful vibe in there.

Yeah, Clover got stomped by Capcom and became platinum, who made bayonetta and the series that spawned Nier

Between them, Rockstar and Bethesda I may still be able to enjoy video games. All the other companies want to follow the EA model that is cancerous, it seems. Although Square Enix did right by the latest Final Fantasy game.

Quite foolish indeed, Clover deserved better, it's unfortunate that the big wigs in moon rune town are a bunch of dusty old fuckers who have no idea what makes a good game anymore.
Reminds me of Konami and pachinko, foolish Japanese corporate overseers

...

Watching some gameplay of it suggests that it's a road trip/grass simulator with Advent Children-esque characters thrown in.

I could very well be wrong, but I'm not shilling out 300+ dollars for one game, considering I don't own a console

...

samefag here, ALSO, I don't really trust consoles anymore, I torrent on a try-before-you-buy basis with everything now, shit's expensive if I'm not going to end up even remotely enjoying it

I only say that because they delayed the game to make sure content was done, rather than rushing it. As well as DLC that was REAL DLC. I don't play the FF games (only 13) but they got that much respect from me at least.

Cant enjoy rockstar games given their stance on modding. It's really shitty how games became less about having fun and more about... I dont even know what to call it, I cant see any benefit for banning mods, it's like shooting yourself in the foot

...

Relevant

They banned mods? Weird. Had been seeing a bunch of stuff for GTA 5 on Youtube. Something happen recently?

Can't tell if trolling but does call of duty have any relevant story anymore? I dont think that even came out yet?

Theyve always been banned, its just that modders figured out a way to keep themselves from getting caught

But rockstar are still firmly against it for whatever reason. Does'nt make sense to me no matter how I look at it, considering Skyrim's popularity with mods

Ok so I know Spider-Man's lore is already there, but really, when you could finally web swing around New York in a game it was way cool. youtube.com/watch?v=3aRrqH4dFNo&ab_channel=SABY

aweee yeeeeaah

This game had great swinging mechanics, combat upgrades, and boss fights. Too bad the missions were so repetitive.

I have a theory on this. I think GTA V and Batman Arkham Knight were both deliberately sabotaged on PC by their devs at the behest of Sony and microsoft in order to keep consoles in the limelight verses PC's.

Imagine if Arkham Knight came out not broken and fucked up on release, that would have been a storm too big for sony to deal with, so they covered it up.

Honestly thats the only way I can make sense of why the graphical options were so limited. Disabling ambient occlusion and fov in that game break the detective mode and make certain objects disappear. I have no idea how one fucks up a port like this on such basic things.

Also doesn't make sense because they always seem to go against the grain, which right now is everything is microtransactions and dlc that actually was removed game content. Mods are the antithesis of that. Rockstar isnt even putting a lot out for GTA5 anymore so it's not like they are losing money.

Platinum only ever made the recent Nier Automata.
Drakengard and Nier Gestalt&Replicant were all made by cavia.

Yeah, I totally agree. I remember the PS1 games where you just vaguely shot a web up into the sky and it caught something (even if you were standing on rooftops)

Oops sorry, my mistake

Yeah wasn't a fan that you were forced to do those side missions. Playing alongside Black Cat was nice though!

Aight, so I gave the gamefags here Viewtiful Joe, Falsebound and Spider-Man 2. Any wrestling fans? Don't know if underrated is the correct word but everyone points to the early WCW games and I think this was better, and of course it's constantly overshadowed by Here Comes The Pain.

The planes one doesn't really count.

What planes one? There was never a jak game with planes....
That never happened....
Tho there was a rockin death racing game and a PSP sidekick midquel

There was one tho

Yep solid gameplay and a big roster for the time. I like how your opponents twitched on the ground when they were getting wrecked.

...

As a ginormous fan of the J&K trilogy back in the day, this physically pains me to look at. It couldn't have been good.

It's not bad but it's not definitely jak2 or 3

Did anyone play Freedom Force? It was the first RPG I ever played and I remember loving it as a little kid. Just found out there's a sequel and I kinda wanna play it.

Hush.... we dont talk about that one...

I think this is a tremendous lore building game. The RPG elements are, just, there man. All the customization you can do to your character, the places he goes, the equipment he gets, the rewards...just immersive. Little buggy though.

did you actually just steal a fucking Projared joke (an entire video, no less) and post it in Sup Forums ?

No idea who that even is.

All kidding aside, I remember when Superstar mode debuted and I actually thought they were going to make something RPG-like with branching storylines and attribute customization.

It started off promising with picking your parents and the draft, and then they just did nothing with it for years. That's when I realized that EA sucks dick.

Yeah same man. You had an adviser, picked teams and all that. They actually SUBTRACTED features and story options as the games went on. That's EA for you though. You'd think RPG would work fantastic with sports games though. NBA 2K has gotten close but Spike Lee's iteration was hot garbage, from what I've seen of fan opinions.

Honestly recommend people try emulation. Recently hundred percented the Jak games (except for Jak 2 because fuck that race in the city streets challenge)

Heres Jak 3 in native resolution

You can unlock the resolution to 4k, and it looks great but the textures... dont agree with it

There is a fix for this coming, someone recently fixed ratchet and clank textures on higher resolutions, and both games use the same engine, so Jak will follow

GOAT arcade style racing game.

Some of the burning lap challenges were insane. I remember taking turns with my friends in high school on the Downtown burning lap until the sun came up. I finally beat it and we all freaked out.

Preview lap not burning lap. I can't even find a gold medal run on youtube. Shit was hard. youtube.com/watch?v=VdFpWyojt00

That chick is what made me fap to furry porn

Still play burnout revenge

Carmelita is the only latina I would date x'D

God bless emulation

This runs near perfectly, just minor glitches in the health bar

DMC 3 was and always will be the shit

PCSX2

...

If only you could change style mid battle like in dmc4....

God of war 2 native

Demonic trips for the God of war!
Aaaand God of war at 6x native

Thats 512x6 I think?
