Can we seriously talk about how good both Akira the movie and the manga was?

Can we seriously talk about how good both Akira the movie and the manga was?

...

they ran it on toonami once like 15 or something years ago, scared the shit out of me.

there needed to be a second half of the story made into a movie, not that they were ever gonna cover over 2000 pages of manga. and if the toonami airing scared you the manga has tatsouo using his girlfreind as a sex slave.

I thought the movie was good until I read the manga. The manga is wayyyyyy better and really exacerbates all the flaws of the movie. The movie is still relevant as the first wide-released anime movie in the US, but compared to its source material it is a mess.

it was remarkable not only that it had such a strong style, but that the style carried right through
it really was seamless, and the soundtrack to the movie was really well paired

fucking yes.the movie was an artistic explosion for everyone at the time and was ate up like grocery booty, but the manga will be punk and amazing for all of human history.

finally a good thread

your fucking damn right this a good thread. IM COMMANDING THIS LAME BOARD FOR THE GOOD OF SHINING LIGHT ON SOMETHING GOOD FOR FUCKING ONCE. LETS TALK ABOUT TATSOUOS FUCKING ABUSE OF HIS POWERS AND GATHERING A HAREM OF TEENS FOR SEX

The absolute best.

The musical soundtrack is masterpiece

AKIRA RED IS A REGISTERED COLOR NOW.

The Colonel was also badass in his character development. Much more so than in the film.

it was cyber punk enough to be a babies first listening request upon breathing its first outside air.

id suck the colenels tiny cock and beat the camera man for getting my bad side while i did it.

bumpin'

I just saw Akira, in my honest opinion i thought it was shit.

DUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH DUH DUH

GET OUT OF MY THREAD YOU BASTARD CHILD OF TOXIC ASS CREAM.

I did not understand a lick of this movie. This ancient "power" that was locked away in this freezer fault underground gets unlocked by a boy. It possesses the boy and he e do up this alpha and omega of all beings.

Then suddenly he turns into a giant baby and disappears into space along with the people he absorbed. Stupidest shit ever.

read the godamn manga, yes the movie could only do so much, but your looking at the wrong way. look at this guys hardon for akira, thats how hard your penis needs to be anytime you so much as think about this masterpiece.

Everyone has the right opinion, so I can't belittle yours

it was awesome! someone should make an entire cartoon series that's mostly guys standing around grunting then making ever-bigger blasts.

I haven't read the book but Akira's probably my favorite movie, definitely in top 3.

I also like Evangelion, and I think its interesting how similar the themes of them are, and the elements they share.

A huge explosion, second impact and the Akira explosion, initiate the events of both movies. This can be paralleled with Japan getting nuked during WWII.

Social trauma or social change are also highly relevant; in Evangelion its very personal, following shinji and the issues he faces, while Akira is focused on society as a whole changing. This can be paralleled with Japan having their government restructured by the west.

And in the end of the movies, both feature "the creation of a new universe", which in Evangelion is the collapse of barriers between people and in Akira it's the restructuring of society after another explosion.

Very interesting glimpse into the mindset of Japan after they got nuked, their society forcefully restructured into a western paradigm, their economy becoming the second best in the world, and then the slow decline during the period where both the movies were released.

Akira's Manga was fucking incredible but the movie was far more impactful to the point where it literally changed Japanese history

Although I guess you could say it was only because of the manga that the movie even exists kek

your praise of all things Akira is making me wet.

TETSUOOOOOOOOOOOO

KANEDAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA-umph nom munch mmm.

I was in middle school when I first read the Akira manga (my library has it), somewhere around 2002/2003, and it wasn't until about three or four years later that I watched the movie, but I gotta say, the manga was WAY better. It felt like a more complete story. There was just too much source material to cram into a single film, so they just tried to abridge it, and it didn't really work effectively. What they should have done is made it a trilogy.

they still could.
