There was a lot of exposition at the beginning to fill in the 30 year time gap or so and that's really hard storytelling to pull off. Plus there was a huge change in tone; the Rebuilds were consistently NGE but medicated--just as brutal but more optimistic. This suddenly flew in the face of that
