Dang, so I suppose you have to put up with it for a bit. Smart move to be looking for work in the meantime though. You're in GA, so local governments, anything in the university systems, and any large companies in the area would be good leads.
Another option to consider would be to find entry level work via a staffing agency if you can't land a job on your own. It would break you in and get you paid, but working on gigs isn't recommended over the long haul. I did that with R&D for Pizza Hut & Frito Lay for a couple of years out of college doing entry level lab work.
