Well depends, give me a situation when you add something and what it should do. Sorry for my English#Dutch

What I mean is; if you would like to have the total amount automatically that's real simple. Just use the finish time - start time. ( I don't know what cells you're using so )

C4=B4-A4

You could use "if" and all but why make it hard if you can go the easy why. But I think I'm missing the point of what you really want

Wouldn't it just be:
=IF([cell] > 12, "36.02", "30.38"

My excel is a bit rusty but I'm fairly confident it's along those lines anyway

OP what are you actually trying to do on Excel?

I have an am and pm rate. PM is 1800-0600 and am is 0600-1800 and corresponding rates are pm36.02 and am 30.38.

Depending on the hours worked that I enter I would like for the appropriate pay rate to be automatically filled in.

just use quickbooks or google excel template timecard variable pay rate

The if statement is the correct way to do this.

However a simpler way would be to build a function.
