I'm joining the Army. Though I've studied well for the Asvab I'm still afraid of scoring low. How will this effect my outcome in the military outside of simply determining what job I can choose? What are some of the risks involved with scoring low - or benefits?

inb4 Join the Air Force. I'm not joining the fucking air force.

depends on what job youre going for, if grunt dont worry.

no sane or reasonable person would ever choose to join any army unless your life is boring enough for it to be actually be a welcome change if you die for a politician and/or oil.

The Army takes ASVAB waivers down to a 15. You'll score high enough to get in. I didn't prep for it and got a 93

You'll be fine OP, it's ez

what would happen if you popped bullets like pills

I hole-hardedly agree, but allow me to play doubles advocate here for a moment. For all intensive purposes I think you are wrong. In an age where false morals are a diamond dozen, true virtues are a blessing in the skies. We often put our false morality on a petal stool like a bunch of pre-Madonnas, but you all seem to be taking something very valuable for granite. So I ask of you to mustard up all the strength you can because it is a doggy dog world out there. Although there is some merit to what you are saying it seems like you have a huge ship on your shoulder. In your argument you seem to throw everything in but the kids Nsync, and even though you are having a feel day with this I am here to bring you back into reality. I have a sick sense when it comes to these types of things. It is almost spooky, because I cannot turn a blonde eye to these glaring flaws in your rhetoric. I have zero taller ants when it comes to people spouting out hate in the name of moral righteousness. You just need to remember what comes around is all around, and when supply and command fails you will be the first to go. Make my words, when you get down to brass stacks it doesn't take rocket appliances to get two birds stoned at once. It's clear who makes the pants in this relationship, and sometimes you just have to swallow your prize and accept the facts. You might have to come to this conclusion through denial and error but I swear on my mother's mating name that when you put the petal to the medal you will pass with flying carpets like it’s a peach of cake.

It literally only translates to job choice. Shoot for a 110 GT. That qualifies you for 99% of jobs in the military.

Hardest part if I recall was quadratic formula (FOIL). Rest is some word problems, simple speed math and gears and pullys.

Lots of people don't though. One guy in my unit had a 38. Still good enough to become a meat shield in the Marines.

Than you're a fucking idiot, and by extension of that perfect for the army.

dont know why but "my mother's mating name" still makes me laugh

have fun eating dirt, grunt-memelord

There are tons of study guides online and when you talk to your recruiter theyll even make you take a practice test to get an idea of what to expect.

good luck into risking your life for the oil companies, to get fuel contracts from the army and the weapon manufacturers to get richer

>in before you now nothing or you are cowards... 4 times each 3 months in Bosnia 1994-1996 and 3 weeks in Siera Leone 1995

Honestly friend, most of the ASVAB is common sense. A few technical things here and there but nothing mind hemorrhaging.
Don't sweat it.

Don't sweat it.

Don't join the military. Your shit benefits is not worth it.

>airforce hater

That's okay, you couldn't get in if you wanted to.

I've been in the army for 4 yrs. I said fuck the air force when I joined too but if I knew then what I know now, I'd join the air force

This. Dont piss away 4 years for a discounted education

I have nothing against the airforce I just don't want to join that branch.

Any opinions on the coast guard? Asking for myself

If you're a COD kiddy who thinks he's gonna be some super leet ranger delta speshul farces faggot then don't bother. It's nothing like video games.

This. Fuckin hell dont fall for the education gig

If I believed that I wouldn't be worried about scoring low. Try harder if you're going to be an edgelord.

unless you want to do something in signals or intelligence or your a retard, the ASVAB is just a formality

See

I kind of want to see combat. I have a poor relationship with my father and he basically doesn't think very highly of me. None of my family members think very highly of me but they respect military people despite none of them being military. This isn't really for money as much as it is trying to win the respect of my family.

If you like tedium, assholes where they shouldn't be, and being directed from reveille to taps, then you'll love the military.

>I kind of want to see combat.
don't join
you will get people killed that would otherwise survive

Do you have something against me for some imagined problem, are you just looking to shitpost or do you have anything constructive to offer. I'm actually curious.

You can literally be retarded to join the infantry. Asvab practically not required

lol, dont join the military because the family doesnt appreciate you. Get good grades, go to college, transfer to uni after core classes are done and become a petrol engineer or some shit.

I'd have already gone to school but working a minimum wage 9 to 5 isn't going to cut it to pay for school man.

Do what normal people do and get student loans

I don't like being in debt.

nothing against you
just from personal experience in combat
the assholes that wanted to be in combat either shit themselves and froze requiring others to risk their lives to save them or did stupid shit trying to be a hero that caused others to unnecessarily risk their lives
a soldier should be willing to engage in combat, but should never go looking for it

Welcome to adulthood

Join by all means, but don't expect it to repair your relationship with your family. My family is the same way. After I got home from Afghanistan, their attitude towards me did not change.

If you enlist, do it for yourself. Everyday you wake up and face a new challenge, it has to be for you.

I don't regret enlisting at all. Being in the army afforded me experiences and benefits that I wouldn't have gotten otherwise.

Ignore the haters. The benefits you receive in service and after honorable discharge are world class. The post 9/11 gi bill and VA home loan are great.

But again, do it for yourself. Not your bullshit family.

more like welcome to poverty amirite

I can agree with the sentiment and my opinion will obviously change. What I want now isn't going to be the same later. I'm just looking to make informed decisions. I'm not trying to get anyone killed.

Welcome to every student in Uni that came from a broken family that didnt give a damn about them...its a lot trust me

Thank you, this is something I needed to hear.

1.join peace corp
2.find security position
3.get put in shit hole third world country
4.???
5.profit

Join the Navy instea-
>I want to see combat
Nevermind, you're ultra stupid, stay out of the Navy, join the Army and get people killed

No problem. Don't feel bad about your asvab either. If you are intelligent enough to have been accepted to college or you graduated high school with a decent GPA, you will do fine. I was a college drop out and I didn't study at all for the test and I got a 112 GT score. I was hungover as fuck too.

I did 6 years and it did wonders for my self confidence and work ethic. I'm now married to a beautiful woman, own a house, and I finally finish my undergrad this summer.

Grab life by the balls and do it! Just no matter what you do, don't quit. Don't even think about quitting. Basic training is so fucking short it will seem like the blink of an eye after you do it. There are a lot of shitheads in basic training. Don't let them get you down either. You have to make a conscious effort every morning to wake up and physically tell yourself you will not fail. Look yourself in the mirror if you have to.

Peace be with you brother

Yo don't worry about the ASVAB, it's not important unless you fail the personality test I think that's called TAP or some shit. Don't remember. The only thing about the ASVAB and I mean the only thing is the GT partial. That needs to be 110 if you have any aspirations for SF (LOL!) and 105 for most of the gentlemen's schools. Other then that, relax and enjoy your time before basic bro. hooah

Not OP here,
What was your MOS in the Army? Where were you stationed?

Have you thought about the Navy OP?

Think you'll fit right in.

35M
Stewart, Bragg, Afghanistan, Huachuca, back to Bragg, Qatar, Turkey. Now I'm out. Loved every Minute of it

joining the air force as a tactical air control personnel (TAC-P) might be for you
>better quarters and food in garrison
>deployed with army infantry units
>your "weapon" is telling bombers and AC-130 gunships (cargo planes with a howitzer canon sticking out the back and grenade launchers sticking out the sides) where to attack, aka killing dozens in seconds

>Double
Devil's
>Diamond
Dime a
Got too mad to continue
God damn grunt
Get "blow'd" up

Army fag here.
The score only determines what jobs you can do/if you can later go SF or Officer.
Plus if you do score good enough to get in but not good enough to do that later you can always take the GT improvement course at your post's ed center.

OP, with your ability to string together complete sentences you don't need to worry about the ASVAB.

Noice. Did you make your own thread on here not to long ago?

That's something I'm afraid of actually. That they'll put me in an office somewhere. I wouldn't mind being an officer but the last thing I want is for my typing skills to be the catalyst defining my position there.

No

You won't be an officer and you'll be able to select your MOS(Job) and have that guaranteed. So if you decided that you don't want to work in an office, that's your choice.

God I made that mistake.

>be senior in highschool
>don't really know what I want to do
>Fuck it, lets take the ASVAB
>98
>phone calls all day all night for the next 6 months from recruiters
that was a bad idea.

saved

>doubles advocate
>fails to get dubs

The single most important mindset to do anything especially in the military is this...there is nothing I can't fail at. And while that may also work in the civilian life it's a lot easier to wrap your kind around not failing whatever your doing that day if that's basic, or ojt. Or ait for pogs. Or any other class that you wish to take to expand on your military career. 8 years of my life that while I was in it I didn't care to much about. People suck and that's no different in the military you will come across complete and utter pieces of shit. But then you will come across people that you will have a bound with stronger then any family member or friend you've known before. I wouldn't have traded anything for the years I spent in the army. 5 days left and then I'm officially out. And to OP do what you think is best what you think may benefit you in the long run. Don't sign some ridiculous contract for a ridiculous amount of time. Feel it out and then decide if it's right for you. The army will provide you with skills and training that I promise you will make you look better on a resume down the road.

Hauchuca was a very beautiful place. Did some training up there a couple years back near the bourse stables where. I think it was near the UAS guys. Definitely had an Afghanistan feel to it around those parts.

Horse

Oh yeah and when you get out, you'll look at the friendships you have with civilians and you'll be depressed. Trust me. I'm depressed. I can't have candid conversations about saltwater fish tanks, gay self-suck or the merits of being black in germany anymore. All the most fun I'll ever have has been had and I'm just waiting to die.

Go to the military enlistment general on /k/ retard

Can fail. Fucking shit iPhone

Go Air Force. Score high. Fly Drones. Profit.

I did AIT at huachuca and went back a few years later to do some additional schools. Huachuca is a great Army post, one of my favorites. Sierra Vista on the other hand...

Yeah I'm already there. I have one friend that I've known sense I was 8 and it's the only friend outside the military that I still talk to and sometimes even that is depressing because when I hear their day to day complaints I just get triggered.

Yeah. This. Times infinity.

Life outside of the military is so weird. I wasn't even a super gung ho HOOAH individual either. Everyday life and trifles just seems so fucking trivial. Relationships outside of the military seem so meaningless and immaterial.

Fuck that town. JRs and Paul's pub still around? Besides those two shit holes I spent my time in Tucson.

Exactly! Like I said before the day to day complaining that normal people do is just beyond me!

I think Paul's is. I always hung out at the gulch because it was great people watching. The Mexican food in SV was pretty good.

I will add to my other response luckily for me I landed a gig that will keep me deploying so I'll at least still have that taste of sweetness

i will give it that the little Mexican fast food place off the main strip on the right was pretty dope.

Left sorry. Philiburtos or some shit like that

Army fag here.
I have been in for almost 6 years now.
My MOS is 25S and went on to get the 1C ASI. (It's satellite communications. The ASI is literally for controlling the militarys communications satellites)

Don't be an idiot and join just to see combat man. My job have me a TS/SCI clearance and a shit ton of hands on work experience that translates nicely to the civilian sector.

I'm transitioning out of the military now and I've already landed a 6 figure job 6 months prior to my ETS date.

If you're in a smart guy MOS you dont have to go to these dirthole countries.

I ETSed a little over a year ago. I don't regret it at all, since deploying all the time was a huge strain on my relationship with my now wife. Plus, I wasn't compatible with the Army lifestyle.

I do miss it though. I'm not one to wear a multicam hat or some faggy grunt style tshirt or put CAB and airborne decals on my car... but civilians don't fucking understand man. It doesn't help that I don't really groove well with other vets either. I know when I first got back I went to my schools Vet center, had a couple of conversations with some truly insufferable people, and never came back.

Most days I feel like it's just me and my wife against the world. It sounds sad, but I fucking hate everyone.

I understand this completely

Yeah man. I'm just waiting on my VA rating now. Hopefully things start looking up here shortly! Had my last C&P exam on Monday.

Fuck man the va has just been one confusing lump of shit for me.

Yeah. I've been at it for about a year. The benefits side is confusing as fuck but I've gotten some great care from the medical side.

I keep hearing that the va has actually changed and is doing good for the vets these days

John the Marines you chuck. Everyone and their mom joins the army... why be just another soldier? Have some pride in your damn life and join the real gun club. Sure I was an aviation POG but at least I wasn't an army scrub. The choice is yours... tell everyone you joined the army or tell everyone you're a fucking United States Marines.

Why don't you join the Navy?

Applying to become a Peace Corps Volunteer is a competitive process, and many positions have minimum education, work/volunteer experience and/or language requirements to qualify for consideration....

....although they do have positions if you don't have a degree.

I'm not completely sure to be honest. I just want to join the Army.

Maybe you can become an orifice?

dont forget
>intensive purposes
Intents and purposes

Adalabertos?

become a submariner
>a hundred men go down, fifty couples come back up

my friend's dad was in the navy
he keeps trying to defend against the gay jokes
but then he will tell us stories like this
>be in port
>on watch
>guy being escorted off
>another guy following behind crying
>ask what's going on
>guy leaving has AIDS
>guy crying was his "bunkmate"
>tell him "It's OK, AIDS doesn't spread that way."
>"No, he was my 'BUNKMATE'"
>oh, sorry

filiberto. Off of fry blvd. I don't know if a lot of people knew about it. It was just a small kinda fast food Mexican joint had some bomb ass food.

>what job can i choose

they dont have guaranteed enlistment options, at least they didnt in the past, so they are going to put you wherever they want to. choose? lol.
orders, user, no choice.

My brother in law, joined the navy, went Nuc, spent like 3 years in school to do that, did 1 cruise, put in for engineering school, they sent him to Ohio State, got his degree, put in for flight school, that didn't go over very well, he put in for another school, ended up doing like admin work, and retired as an officer after 20 years, now has a six figure job as a manager at a fortune 500 company.

So, make sure that you get training for a job you can do AFTER you leave the service. You definitely don't want to end up back on your parent's doorstep after tiring of the military

bone apple teeth

This was a chain that was popular around Phoenix, it had bomb ass food

I forgot to mention that he got like huge re-enlistment bonuses like 50k for being nuc.

But if that don't change your mind:

Last year, Congress authorized the Air Force to pay pilots as much as $35,000 per year to stay on, up from the previous cap of $25,000. This means that if the Air Force moves ahead with a 13-year contract extension and offers the full $35,000 annual bonus, pilots could net as much as $455,000

Yes but being an aviator is a very very competitive position and you have to be on top of your fucking game.

>I won't join the AD

You're gonna learn the hard way arbitrarily making uninformed decisions is pretty damn stupid.

And you most likely need a degree.

Yes, but if you do the math, I'll bet you'll end up well over a mil when its all said and done.

Just make sure your MOS can be transferred to a job/career in the civilian sector. For example, if you're a 14T, I can't see how anyone would have use for a civilian who can launch missiles off the back of a truck...unless you become a private contractor for such a company.

Also, don't was out of Basic or AIT. It'll haunt you for the rest of your life. It'll be rough at first (and maybe again later), but just stick with it. Personally, if I could go back, I'd have done Navy.
