How did he get away with it?

How did he get away with it?

Have any other actors been able to pull off the black face?

It's a tongue in cheek character not meant to be taken seriously, and it wasn't.

Now if he black-faced in a proper, serious toned movie, he'd get backlash.

...

This. Also helps that he's an ultra lib in real life, and did a gay scene to open the movie.

He got away with it because it was part of the character and well acted, black test audiences actually praised RDJ's performance.

Probably the only controversy about this was the "never go full retard" quote because it was deemed offensive to the mentally retarded.

...

>him trying to play basketball

hue. Can't believe James Earl Jones was in that.

Robert Downey Jr. is Jewish.

We all know the Holocaust card trumps the Slave card.

>mother nature gave me natural camo at night

kek

Black face or not this movie does not stand up at all. The extended cut is just more sausage-gut scenes and the only funny part of it is Nick Nolte (and they stole the hook hand gag from Happy Gilmore).

Probably held up the worst of any 00's comedy except for Zoolander.

>the "never go full retard" quote because it was deemed offensive to the mentally retarded.
How ironic.

>because it was deemed offensive to the mentally retarded
why? its not like they know whats going on

Parents, caregivers etc would be offended. Do you get offended when someone calls your mom a cunt to your face? I bet you do. It's no different.

>he's an ultra lib in real life
RDJ is a conservative

Did he really do it though or did they find a nigger lookalike?

Just like clint eastwood right?

>It's no different.
well...

It's a celebrity guest Harry Connick Jr. gets mad irate at Aussies for doing Jackson Five blackface episode

Is this a funpost? Because right now it's neck and neck with

The intent of my comment isn't different but yes you're right.

Because it was before social media grew into the cancer it has become.

WTF I like RDJ now?

Because it was a commentary on how ridiculous actors can come across when they imitate other accents / races - especially through method acting.

Also, this movie is absolutely incredible.

Wrong

It was a well-written film about acting / celebrity stereotypes and Hollywood ego

He got away with it because he's a fucking nigger to begin with.

humor isn't your forte I see

I wouldn't call it incredible.

The primary protagonist, gives the worst performance of anyone in the film and I wouldn't doubt that's because he wasn't known for the kind of actor he was supposed to be. The rest have some experience with the genre's they were meant to symbolize.

I would argue the best performance goes to tom cruise who was amazing. The makeup job was so well done too I had no idea who he even was till the credits.

Australians get away with all types of crazy shit.

wtf I'm still loving this meme

Who was he?

He got away with it

Test

>Who was he?

Les Grossman, a character he created.

It's like the always sunny episode when Mac did black face. It's ok because it's not RDJ doing blackface, it's RDJ playing a character doing blackface
>you gotta make the lips funny

Shit no way.

I think it's because it's not exactly black face
you could mistake what they did in Tropic Thunder for a good tan on Downey
as opposed to say where it looks like they used shoe polish all over his face

the truth is that almost no one even considered what he did as blackface until they got home and saw the vocal minority talking about his "black face" character

I wouldn't since that would be the reaction they wanted. Being triggered means you've already lost.

How is Clint Eastwood not a conservative?

He went to prison as a liberal and came out a conservative

He's more accurately a libertarian and is registered as such.

>"I wouldn't say that I'm a Republican or a liberal or a Democrat."

DUDE WEED LMAO

Wasn't black face. He was actually black.
