Why is it the worst?

Because he said so

Yeah why?

Oh ok, that explains it.

1982 had some great stuff tho

>Peter Gabriel
>Tears for Fears
>King Crimson
>Duran Duran
>XTC
>Japan

>Bad

1981 was worse desu

>1981 had 'Time'

no

Thriller came out in 1982 idiet

The early 80s are like the awkward early aging stage of rock and the awkward puberty phase of rock inspired experimental and electronic music
Not a whole lot of good stuff

probably now

>Not 1999

bleep bloops, Soft Bulletin and 69 Love Songs tho. Pop was pretty bad around that time admittedly

Since everyone is just replying to OPs bait, imma add an actual answer. 1974 was trash. Name one good album from 1974 that isn't Autobahn or something

Rock Bottom or Red

Fair enough, but pick any other year of the 70s and you can name 10 albums just as good as those or better

kimono my house, taking tiger mountain

Wasn't 2013 pretty bad?

...

74 and 76 were objectively the worst years of that decade
Not really

It's hard to drop lower than 1924... and don't get me started on 1811, 1346 and 708 *shudders*

The year 4 was pretty lame for music.

Anything before 1910 was the worse years because music didn't exist.

>Iron Maiden - The Number of the Beast
>Judas Priest - Screaming for Vengeance
not a bad year for metal.

>music didn't exist before 1910

Not sure if bait. Also if we're gonna pick worst year of the 80's, 88 or 89. It's the decade that got progressively worse every year and by the end, was just a massive dumpster fire of synth garbage.

yknow what...it was actually

>music was invented 5 years before relativity was discovered
COINCEDINCE?

synth is the new rock

>ITT- people actually try to determine what single year in human history was the worst for music of all genres across the entire world

we all know all answers are going to involve some sort of cherry picking, and you can say any year is "the worst year for music" so whats the point

Easy. 2008

it was pretty good for shoegaze desu senpai

The correct answer is the year the Earth was created.
Try and prove me wrong.

I disagree with 1982 because of reasons.

Both the best albums of the decade so far were released in 2013. You can guess which ones.

came here to post this

Probably not what you meant but I agree.

FUCK YOU. Rock Bottom is a top 3 rock album period. You probably smoke weed and think Waters era Pink Floyd was good

Vessels and The Raven That Refused to Sing

>1981 had New Order
yeah, naw m8

Screaming For Vengeance
>The Number of the Beast
>Diver Down
>Creatures of the Night
You can say many things about 1982, a bad year for rock it was not.

The mid-70s was the awkward dead zone between the protest era and punk/New Wave, there wasn't a lot going on to sing about.

>Diver Down
>Creatures of the Night
A bad year for rock this was not.

My uncle bought the first two KISS albums when they came out and he quickly returned them to the store. He said they were just buttrock trash for 12 year olds and that the rock scene in mid-decade was very disappointing compared to five years earlier.

so what did he say when 'Alive!' came out & they exploded in popularity?

Between those four albums, Christgau only reviewed Diver Down and that got just a B- :^)

>caring what Cuckgau thinks

1977 was the last good year.

The rock and pop scenes did get really weak in the second half of the 80s.

bad years for me

1974
1977
1986
1990
1995
2006
2013
2015

>1974
Already covered
>1977
Great year for punk/alternative, bad for mainstream rock
>1986
Great year for metal, bad for mainstream rock
>1990
Alternative rock was starting to emerge from the cracks but hadn't blown up just yet. Pretty good year for metal.
>1995
Post-Cobain suicide slump
>2006
I don't remember this year being very interesting
>2013
Yeezus, but not much else going on.
>2015
Yeah it's shit.

>King Crimson in the same list as Tears for Fears among others
What are you doing?

Tears For Fears are shit though.

2017

1981 was possibly the best year of the decade, at least second best after 1988

Musik von Harmonia
Zuckerzeit
Phaedra
Starless and Bible Black
Red
Meet the Residents
Unrest
Hergest Ridge

I can't think of many good albums from either 1976, 1987 or 1990

You might've gotten dubs but you're an IDIOT!

Thriller came out in 1983!

Pretzel Logic by Steely Dan
Burn by Deep Purple
First two KISS albums. (FUCK THE HATERS!)
Piss Factory b/w Hey Joe by Patti Smith 45

I'm not afraid to say it

2013 by far, what a boring year.

Neil Young released Trans
youtube.com/watch?v=9oMTwfq_jI8

>Thriller came out in 1983!
>release date: November 30, 1982

1988 was ok for metal, otherwise quite weak. Also I think 1980 was better than 81.

is that nils fuckin' lofgren?

kek

I think not.

Nuh-uh

WRONG

1992 is pretty bad. Best we got was pic related.

>1992
>Bad
>Had red house painters, pavement, ride, spiritualized, the pharcyde, sonic youth to name a few
>Picks worst album as best of 1992

Bleach came out in '89

>Down Colorful Hill instead of s/t
>Going Blank Again instead of Nowhere
S&E is the best Pavement album, but it's not really amazing. Lazer Guided Melodies is great, but it's not Ladies and Gentlemen. Pharcyde is ok. 90s Sonic Youth is pure trash.

A handful of pretty good records in a sea of utter shit that was 1992.

are you drunk or what

I know. Aside from Yeezus, name one notable 2013 release.

>plebs who think a Kanye album was the most notable release that year
Jesus fucking christ

QotSA album
RtJ
Sunbather
Sigur Ros album
mbv
R Plus Seven
Shaking the Habitual
Old
RAM
MVotC

All better than Yeezus

Random Access Memories? Nevertheless I see your point but think 2017 will shape up to be worse in the long run unless the second half of this year is great.

also immunity, modern vampires fo the city, not to mention whenever, if ever.

yes 1982 was pretty bad

Worst years were the ones before 1910, because music hadn't started by then
Yeah, Tears for Fears are much better

see here

Other than Swans 2014 was literally shit tier

1996 was the worst year. We still had some good albums (Beck's Odelay being the best example I can think of) but:
>Rock
All the big rock scenes were getting trashier. Grunge was becoming unbearable to a point we had Christian Grunge bands. Britpop had become so utterly disgusting that even the bands associated with that scene were abandoning the boat. Californian Pop Punk bands had proved themselves to be "one trick pony" bands and progressively got worse as the decade went on. There wasn't anything happening in the underground scene either, garage revival bands wouldn't come out for another 2-3 years.
>Rap
Rap was definitely selling out by that point. God all that try hard gangsta shit was so bad. It was better than rock, however not by much. The underground was maybe a little better, since good artist like Kanye West were starting their careers by then.
>Pop
Oh god pop music was terrible. There wasn't a direction in pop music, each week a different artist would come out with a different bland and uninspiring song. The mid 90's was the era of the "one hit wonders" artists.
>Eletronica
It was gradually raising towards mainstream and was starting to blend with pop music, but the underground stuff was still good.

Don't anything about the jazz and classical music scene at that time, but since the general public doesn't care about those I decided to not even research about it

This

bait

>hex enduction hour
>vs
>generic flipper
>glassworks
>the message
>chronic town

try 2009

That's late 90s in the general

1996 had more great albums than the previous or next year.

Soundtracks for the Blind
ATLiens
Filosofem
Long Season
Reasonable Doubt
On Avery Island
Pinkerton

Here Come the Warm Jets

These are both correct answers

I can't name a single really good album from 2009 and 2014 was weak as fuck

John Cale's Fear
Mike Oldfield's Hergest Ridge

Jason Isbell - Southeastern

It was a weird era in music.
An overlapping of the older rock groups, post disco burnout, hair bands, synth pop and new wave. It was weird, hard to define musically era.
Mind you, Thriller, #1 selling album of all time. So there's that for what it's worth....

1976...

1976 has stratosfear and station to station
1987 has realm of a dying sun
1990 has the good son and heaven and las vegas
but i do agree with you

>heaven and las vegas

that album is so overrated.

it is, but i had to pick either that or violator or nowhere or twin peaks which are even more overrated imo. also cherry coloured funk makes me cum

2000

1975

>GSYBE
>yo la tengo
>BOC
>kid a
>gas - pop
>clientele - suburnal lights
>arovane -tides
>animal collective's debut
>modest mouse
>tosca - suzuki
>vladislav delay
>countless others

easily one of the best years ever

>mothership connection
>tonight's the night
>another green world
>rubycon
>wish you were here
there's something for everyone

1992 was definitely a letdown after the glories of 1991. Also why are you surprised that 90s Sonic Youth sucked?

>80s band goes to pot once the 80s are over
