>One unnamed passenger boarded a United flight at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport, headed to Louisville, not knowing he was about to be forced to leave a plane that was overbooked. >A nearly 30-second video clip, posted on social media by a fellow passenger, shows three security officers approaching a man who was already seated, asking him to give up his spot on the plane. After the man refuses, he was eventually dragged by his arms and screaming toward the front of the plane. >A witness to the debacle said passengers were warned at the gate that the flight was overbooked, and United was asking for volunteers to switch flights, with reimbursements included. Nobody spoke up. >According to Audra Bridges, who posted the video to her Facebook page Sunday evening, United management came on board the flight and used a computer to randomly select four passengers who would be removed from that trip. >The man in the video — one of those four randomly selected — reportedly claimed he was a doctor and needed to see his patients at the hospital in the morning, then proceeded to say he would call his lawyers.
Yes. He will sue them and most likely win. So U.A. pretty much fucked themselves in the ass for this.

Even if he loses they're going to lose millions from the PR clusterfuck

Under Dutch law I'm pretty sure you could prosecute those security guards.

>If we removed you, would you die?
Juan Fisher
I don't get this. >people board the plane >everyone has a seat >suddenly plane is overbooked >go in and drag 4 people who were already seated out at random
There obviously were seats, so what's the problem? Was someone else waiting to board? If so why remove people that already boarded instead of refunding those still outside?
Matthew Sanchez
Im not sure how anyone could defend this.
Josiah Myers
maybe they select the ones with the easiest to remove luggage or something
Kayden Butler
Under burger law there was a violation of the NAP on the doctor's part so the Aviation Police were well within their rights to harvest his kidneys
Tyler Gomez
Of courshe! The Doctor refused our offer in favour of remaining seated, we had to make room for other customers.
Juan Diaz
American arrogance, there were indeed enough seats for passengers but not unexpectedly staff having to fly to the next airport and needing a seat. So instead they kicked out the passengers
Caleb Hall

They decide who to remove based on how much they paid for their ticket, usually.

>be american >get dragged
Isaac Gutierrez
Still doesn't explain why they had to be kicked out. Again if people needed to board, why would you not turn away them instead of dragging out people that already boarded?
That makes no sense either, the crew usually have their own seats or even sleeping quarters for long flights.
Mason Perez

No memes, I guarantee if he was white this would never have happened. American cops don't even see brown people as human, even if they're doctors or teachers or engineers.

We've been conditioned to getting dominated by opaque bureaucracies at airports since the early 2000s. It's only going to get worse in the future, I'm afraid.
Anthony Ward
Wait, did they literally sell 4 more tickets than the flight's capacity? If not then how does this happen?
Samuel Davis
The crew uses the vacant seats. Around 5% of the people don't show up for flights or cancel at last minute, so the companies count on those vacant passengers to sit the crew.
Daniel Mitchell

I'm not believed. Why did such thing occur?

Why is everybody acting like we're defending this? Not even the hypernationalistic dickheads on Sup Forums did. The Asian Doctor is probably going to make bank suing United for this though, and good for him.

If they made the airplanes bigger Americans would just grow their asses fatter by a factor of the same degree

Everything they did was 100% legal. The airline had every right to kick anyone they want off. The police have every right to beat the shit out of anyone they want.
Jose Cruz
Sometimes its based on flights and transfers too. There could have been another plane for the people they decided to boot in a few hours, while the people who needed to get on might have needed to wait another day. In the economic part of the plane costs aren't really different unless you book the emergency seats.
Alexander Howard
>le white people are evil XDXDXDXDXD

Not good for his patients. You gotta love Chicago and it's PD.
Leo Cox
I think most people anticipated Americans defending this because of the needlessly edgy pro-police pro-corporate attitude a lot of us have on here.
People need to volunteer to get bumped. What's SUPPOSED to happen (and usually does) is that the airline will offer a travel voucher worth $X if someone volunteers. If there aren't any takers then they make the voucher worth more and if they get desperate will start offering cash and hotels. Clearly in this instance the airline just refused to offer more than a set amount and just decided to start kicking people off, which IS illegal (which is ironic considering they got the police to do so)
Yes. It's in the news everywhere because people like to get upset.
Planes and airport securities are places you can't act like a stubborn child. It's been like this since 9/11. If you refuse to move people will move your body for you.
Easton Barnes
Look at who's president. They know being an asshole is lucrative and every man in the nation is a tyrant in his heart.

but what if nobody volunteers, will the plane not take off, whats the course of action(legally) if that happens, or has naybody never thought of that

True. We as a nation 100% deserve to live in a coast-to-coast neo-feudal factory farm, and we will accept nothing less.

People who aren't cooperating are generally considered a security issue. Deciding you're going to be difficult doesn't change that you're getting kicked off the plane.
If that woman who harassed that man for going to a Trump rally refused to get off the plane she also would have been dragged off if need be. When you watch tiny clips of videos you need to consider events that happened before and after that you aren't aware of too. It was likely not his first notice that he needed to leave his seat and get off the plane.
Nathaniel Hughes
It goes up very high, to the point that someone WILL take it.
Source? I haven't seen that in any of the articles.
Mason Martin
So, you think if he was white, refused to get out his seat when asked, the police wouldn't have done the same thing? Wrong. It's a power trip, racism has nothing to do with it.

If no one volunteers the companies pick someone. I imagine security in airports has the legal ability, or people on standby with the legal ability, to force people off planes in case of them causing issues or refusing to follow orders.
A plane seat isn't a seat at McDonalds, people forget that.

The airline has to pay you up to 400% of the one way fare depending on how much you will be delayed according to FAA rules. The airline usually tries to negotiate for volunteers before this happens though and they keep increasing the compensation until someone takes it. If nobody takes than they defer to FAA rules and bump people involuntarily. The airline didn't do anything illegal but it was incredibly stupid to allow people to board before trying to find volunteers
Robert Walker
They likely have legal things set up because anyone forced off a plane would try to sue them.
