Matrix Reloaded

Was this fight scene too ambitious for the time?

Neo versus the Merovingian's goons was better.

It was impressive for a couple of months until people became more used to recognising cgi and from then on it was lame.

Choreography is still great even if the CG aged like milk.

it was cool but kinda stupid at the same time

"we need a fight now because lol" -The Wachosky sisters

Neo just leaves, he could have left any time.

This thread is too ambitious for what time is it.

both correct

this scene was ruined by shitty CGI and an oversimplified fight choreography

Even as a 12 year old in the theater I thought the CGI looked terrible

After Smith's sermon about purpose, this scene served no purpose. You can see the faces of Smith doubles even without trying. The lighting is off when the scene switches to CGI, everybody becomes a pinkskin. The highway chase and the fight against Merovingian's goons weren't any better.

Before i came here i thought Reloaded was the best in the trilogy.
This and the chateau fights scenes were breathtaking at the time.

One of the CGI smith models actually breaks and falls to pieces. It's like they didn't even care

are you serious?

They shouldn't have a part 2 or 3. The first one was perfect.

When Neo is whacking them with the pipe he hits a dude and he goes flying into a window. Right before the camera pans and he's out of frame the model falls to pieces. I'm not making it up

You can also see Keanu's stunt double more than once, clearly. In slow motion. The sisters hyped Reloaded & Revolutions to hell and back, saying they've come up with new techniques that'll outperform bullet time, but they were obviously forced cash ins.

DUDE AGENT SMITH LMAO

You think they went over budget by building an entire highway?

>YOU DON'T GET IT GUYS. IT WAS PROPHECY FOR HIS LIMBS TO SCATTER LIKE FUCKING LEGO PIECES. PURPOSE REASON CHOICE CAUSALITY.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=TxGfgjmWtEk
you were right, at 0:39 the model goes nuts

also while rewatching the scene to find the error I noticed you can clearly see where they used stunt doubles for Hugo Weaving, but I guess I'm nitpicking now

The problem stems from power creep more than anything.

The idea that Neo just constantly is The One at all times is detrimental to the story telling, instead of his skills being utilized only under extreme duress, as was expressed throughout the original movie, they randomly decided that he could just do whatever he wanted whenever he wanted to.

Flying should have taken concentration. Fighting off three agents should have been difficult, even if he could beat one up no problem. And the ability to stop bullets should never have been something he could just do.

By not doing so, they put Neo into situations like Burly Brawl, where the fight could have had a logical, comprehensive progression, of him being pushed further and further into a corner, doing more and more incredible things, until finally he reached his limit and was forced to escape.

Instead, we just have Neo punching the shit out of some people who are supposed to be just as strong as him. It's pointless CGI porn.

Were the bowling sound effects really necessary?

>Neo throws a smith into a bunch of other smiths and knocks them over
>Bowling pin sounds

just like the screams when he throws them away
really hammin it up

Yeah, it's not like the Matrix is a computer simulation and everything in that scene is actually CGI in-universe.

>GUYS IT MAKES SENSE BECAUSE IT TAKES PLACE IN A COMPUTER SIMULATION
>MAKE SURE TO READ MY MATRIX IV FANFIC AND DONATE TO MY PATREON

Stop. This is worse than Tarantino's "deliberate continuity errors" cancer.

really good point

either the Wachowski lost track of what they wanted to do or they dropped the idea in favor of mindless action because they dubbed the audience to be too stupid, like they did with the concept of humans being used for processing power or the theory about Zion allegedly being another level in the Matrix

even with the cgi I can believe it "enough" and not let it ruin the scene, but that fucking bowling pin sound is what takes me out of it

so stupid

>the theory about Zion allegedly being another level in the Matrix

When I saw him zap the sentinel in the "real world" I instantly assumed they were still in the Matrix.

According to the wiki, he just hacked them or some shit. Lame.

No. Only contrarians thinks that way.

Neo's coat and Smith's suit never get dirty.

Is because is a computer simulation right?

explain how it doesn't makes sense

Not really.

Unpopular opinion time: The Matrix sequels are only marginally worse than the original

>talking shit about the matrix

I heard about the theory from youtube video and sperg sites so take it with a grain of salt, but seems like it's hinted by things like the spoon that the shaolin kid sends to Neo in the "real" world from the Matrix, the Architect rambling about multiple versions of Zion and the Chosen One, Morpheus being in disbelief at the end of the war in the third movie, Smith being compatible with a human body despite being basically a program and so on

why is Neo dressed like a Jesuit?

messianic figure

also nips

someone post the gif to webm from the matrix

She voiced that hot alien in Mass Effect 2.

It was also "CGI in universe" in the first film, which had gritty, genuine locations instead of sterile backgrounds. Also blood and sweat instead of Lego Smith with N64 graphics.

The simulation has to pass for a real world, it has to be plausible for the blue pills. Arguably even the green tint was too much.

...

It was impressive in my 15inch CRT TV.
Re-watching this on bluray was dreadful.

c'mon now it's not that bad, I just rewatched it in 1080p the other days and it's not great but it's stomachable
