He has the numbers to back up the praise
It was a pretty great catch. Unfortunately, the game meant nothing.
>If you can touch it you can catch it
Any pro could have done this.
oTm Brady
>tfw cornerbacks are not allowed to wear the superglue magnet flycatcher gloves the WRs have these days
If only the NFL didn't have such a hardon for offense. Average INTs would be 25
Giants lost that game.
if he wasn't such a manlet he wouldn't have needed to stretch that far
Should he or the gloves be credited more for that catch? I've tried those before and it actually feels like you have pine tar smeared all over your hands, idk how you even drop passes at all if you can get your palms on it
the only really impressive one-handed catches are like that one cause he actually grabbed the ball out of the air with one hand. he didn't use his hand to knock the ball down or slow it down to cradle it, he pinched the middle of the ball with his fingers out of mid-air
one handed elbow basket catches on a corner fade or whatever are totally overrated and boring at this point. this catch is still impressive.
you can only make one handed catches where you actually grip the ball out of the air if you have huge hands. it's like palming/gripping the ball in basketball
It was a very impressive catch because the ball was way over his head and he snatched it out of thin air like pointed out. Not to mention he basically caught the nose of the football with three fingers and managed to get down in bounds.
It was an athletic play but those new gloves are definitely a factor. It's also kind of hard for the NFL to mock the days of Stickum now when there's no way those receivers had an advantage over the gloves WRs play with now.
Why wouldn't cornerbacks be allowed to wear them? Where is the rule about that?
How is it overrated? It was an amazing catch
The play was fine, it would have been an easy catch into a TD if it weren't overthrown by Eli. Are you retarded?
That Wilson pick from the SB is up there
People talk like he read the play from 50 feet away and teleported over, when it was really just Wilson throwing the ball in between him and the receiver and he was stronger in pushing the receiver away
The Giants wound up losing the game and ultimately missing the playoffs that season. The catch doesn't deserve to be celebrated because it wasn't important in the grand scheme of things.
OBJ is basically a meme within himself at this point, he makes Eli look Eli-te
You could make that argument about every play in every game of every sport you stupid fucking faggot
18-1 is overrated
lol, no you fucking couldn't.
Consider the REAL greatest catch of all time: en.wikipedia.org
The Immaculate Reception is truly great. It was a very, very difficult catch in unusual circumstances, like Beckham's catch. However, unlike OBJ's catch, the Immaculate Reception resulted in the touchdown that ultimately won the game for the Steelers. Also, it was a playoff game, so the importance of the catch was amplified.
This catch, and Santonio Holmes' catch against the Cardinals in the Super Bowl, are properly rated. OBJ's catch is overrated.
Really that was just a shitty effort on his receiver. He should've had enough awareness to know the patriot was right behind him and it was either catch the ball or knock it down. Wilson hit a seahawk, it was just a shitty one who gave up the game
A catch is a catch, and it was a legendary one
doesn't really matter what it was in the grand scheme of things
obj made the most difficult catch ever. nothing is physically tougher than what he did
It was a great catch. That's all everyone praises it for. What's so meme about it
it's just one autistic guy in this thread arguing that it's "overrated cause it was unimportant"
Same thing with Bartolo Colon's Home Run: youtube.com
Found the Shittsburgh fan
There's a difference between play and individual effort. The OP was too fucking stupid to call it a meme catch so now everyone is debating about the affect it had on the game.
As a play goes, it's pretty good. A 50ish yard TD pass. Pretty forgettable.
As a catch goes it's easily one of the best ever.
When people show this they aren't referring to the play or the throw or the coaching or the route. It's literally just the way he catches the ball
I still think it's way overrated for all the reasons I listed.
Also, consider the fact that OBJ is a fucking Giant playing in New York City. If he had been on the Titans and made this catch, would anyone have cared?
Greatest catch of all time is by Antonio Freeman
nice try though
In the grand scheme of things that score didnt win them the game. It was actually the result of great defense. Theyd have lost if the d would have given up another td
Another Steelers fan here.
The Immaculate Reception is overrated, mainly because it was our first playoff win for the franchise, in a game we should have already won in the first place. And then we lost the next week anyways. It was great, for sure, but its legacy is overblown by baby boomers.
Holmes' Super Bowl winning catch, however, is hands down the greatest catch of all time. Biggest stage, biggest moment, executed to absolute perfection without any room for error.
Obj's catch was 100 times harder than this shit. This is just luck the fb was in the right place at the right time. Any d2 wr would have caught it
nope
*puts fingers in ears*
NOPE NOPE NOPE LALALALALALA
>hijacking thread now
this literally happened
>5'11
Kek he'll never be a goat being a manlet like that.
The Beckmeme catch is over hyped by OBJ fuccbois. If he would of had the presence of mind to catch it over his shoulder it would have been a TD in stride.
>Harrison's 100 yard pick6
>That TD by Fitz
>That whole fucking drive
It's a miracle I didn't fucking die
The Moss over the shoulder one hander vs. Revis was much better imo.
FYI
It was a great catch no doubt but it's been done so many times.
Only if graded on a curve based on his career level. He's overrated in terms of current production
theres that one still where he's fucking waving his hands around 6 feet from where hes supposed to be while butler catches it
this is the meme play of the decade, right up there with one handed OBJ
