Are We better off?

I didn't realize what we lost until today.

DUDE THE PAST WAS LIKE TOTALLY DIFFERENT AND EVERYTHING IS BAD NOW BUT IT WAS GOOD BACK THEN LMAO

youtube.com/watch?v=RYbe-35_BaA

That guy in the blue shirt is railed out of his mind.

My mistake, it's actually 1989 according to a lottery ticket commercial I just watched.

>I have a recording of the commercial for the Donald Trump Board game & I'm watching it right now.

What would be the best way to archive these tapes? This is a gift from the past.

get a capture card m8 transfer that shit over to your pc

>implying it isn't

>things were so much better when I was a kid/younger
Yeah no shit. Every generation thinks this.

Any specific one you recommend? Also, do I go for one of those "S-VHS" VCRs so I can pull S-Video out of the tapes, or would composite be good enough?

in 1975 my dad bought this. Pre-VHS

Whenever I watch The Big Lebowski I feel a deep pang of longing for that era. I feel like technology was at a good point then. The way the bowling alley looks, the answering machines, all of that just make me miss back then.

And I don't even mean this as "hurrr smart phones actually make us dumber", it's just that things are so connected nowadays it makes it hard to feel a sense of solitude, for me anyway.

And they are always right. Humanity is on a constant downward slide.

if you got the cash but most recordings are just regular vhs
just don't buy those cheap ones from ebay and should be good

>VHS
Beta was better

the cost of a 30 minute tape was about $30

I've got the cash. $200-$500 isn't going to kill me to archive all my tapes. I've got a ton of home movies I'm going through I really need to backup before they die on me.

If you could point me to one specific S-VHS player on eBay you can recommend I can order it now.

It was much heavier though. VHS won because it was cheaper to ship & produce, not because it was better quality.

I got an S-VHS player, it's definitely better quality than the shitty VCR I used before. If you have the cash get one with a time base converter.

Take a look at this:
digitalfaq.com/forum/video-restore/1567-vcr-buying-guide.html

I have this awesome Sony VCR from the early 90s, that hides the flap and it looks hella nice

>digitalfaq.com/forum/video-restore/1567-vcr-buying-guide.html

Much appreciated.

The panel folds down for more controls

>having to rewind and fastforward physical tape

fuck off grampa

knowing what those things are nice try grampa

>Found a bunch of 4 hour VHS tapes recorded in 1983 in storage

If you're telling the truth (which I doubt) — rip and upload that shit.

Those sexy front A/V hookups for easy camcorder dubbing.

Did he used to hang out with Bob Crane?

>It was much heavier though. VHS won because it was cheaper to ship & produce, not because it was better quality.
htta was main reason, I agree 100%, but another major reason was Beta was shorter record times on tape.

and VHS was the porn industry standard too.

unrelated to that
i was thinking, why dont we all make our own shitty, no budget, troma meets ed wood style movies with minimal post production and editing with no fucks given one take wonders on youtube? it could be some truly next level kino.

I know this feel. I'm not a Luddite but honestly the 80s-90s must have been the comfiest era in centuries.

>economy is booming, jobs and property are easy to acquire.
>global politics are turbulent and entertaining while still being stable and safe.
>technology has evolved to a point that allows easy entertainment and communication without being exploited for mass surveillance.

>If you're telling the truth (which I doubt)
Because finding old VHS tapes is unbelievable?

The 70s were a good time to be an idealistic adult and the 90s were a great time to be a kid.

since around 06/07, things have been extremely shitty and both kids and adults both wish for things to be like they were back then

why do you think the trend in the past 2 years has shifted completely towards nonstop brand-image work and remakes/remasters/reboots? pop culture has begun to devour its own tail so badly that we're getting reboots of things that literally just came out a few years ago.

anything mildly successful is being madly shoved down people's throats by both the film industry and the games industry because they're completely out of original ideas. now you just make entertainment media out of a stew of references, memetic shit and nostalgia bait for things from a better time

this past summer is not-infrequently referred to as the worst season for film in decades

No because this is often said here but no one ever rips them, so we never see any results.

>global politics are turbulent and entertaining
There was an entire popular subculture dedicated to how scary and shit things were in the 80s.
youtube.com/watch?v=x1U1Ue_5kq8

>And they are always right. Humanity is on a constant downward slide.

Technology gets better... humans become just more fucked up.

Well said.

>Are We better off?

Yes. You would hate having to watch all of your modern media in that format and quality.

Modern world is way more unstable. Politics in most western countries is totally polarized.

I remember going over weekends and watching SNL with my dad on a tiny black and white CRT, in his little bachelor apartment full of nightclub and music posters, eating homecooked food from the local No Name store at dufferin mall

better times... safer times

>be me in 470AD
>some old faggot is like "we wuz indoor plumbing and highways and sheeit"
>lmao whatever you senile bastard, I've got turnips to attend to

2016 has been the worst year of box office disasters... ever, I think.

Almost every year has had something big flop on its face (John Carter, anyone?) but a dozen bombs in a row have to be starting an industry panic

>its all remakes and capeshit

ebin

Like it has gotten to the point where a piece of media becomes *more* novel and praiseworthy if it *doesn't* immediately spread franchise tendrils into everything and sellout right away, that's how desperate I think people are some dose of faith in humanity or creativity integrity as a concept. a flicker of artistic life is now a marvel to enjoy in a sea of soulless garbage like

>this past summer is not-infrequently referred to as the worst season for film in decades

Eh, they've been there before in the late 40s to early 60s during the golden era of television. 3D and high spectacle capeshit is there to compete with a format that's arguably better suited at getting audiences invested, and that in the comfort of their homes.
What they should be doing instead of bloating their budgets to the point of a crash and sucking China's dick, is to have the balls to try and elevate our modern culture by promoting actual art and intellectualism. Our current infant culture is in large part their fault, resulting in more and more people escaping their media in favor of something that doesn't insult their intelligence anymore, because even plebs tend to grow up and want more.

I snuck into the second half of john carter 3D and i still wanted my money back by the end of it

>no Tarzan

Obviously the mid-80s were pretty intense with the Cold War going on, but I was referring more to the 1989-2001 era. Seems optimistic with the collapse of the USSR and the reunification of Germany and what not.

>cherry picking: the image

Be kind, rewind, you cunt.

>elevate our modern culture by promoting actual art and intellectualism.

Sadly this is not how business ventures work.

Yet we don't make as much actual noise about it as we used to, we just go complain on the internet in between consuming escapist media. Because of how harmful and unsatisfying that has become, I predict the next popular subculture will be a return to the old way of doing things without social media, in a sense beyond common hipsterisms. Landline phones will make a comeback, smoking will be cool again and people will start hanging out more than they currently do, making hipsters panic and trade in their tapedecks and typewriters for smartphones and VR.

>smoking indoors
I WAS BORN TOO FUCKING LATE

This is so true. The time between the end of the Cold War and 9/11 was filled with so much hope and optimism.

>cherry picking
Oh, are there a lot of years with multiple $100 million+ bombs?

Depends. It's easier just to offer banal escapism if the audience is buying, but throughout history, art has by and large been a capitalist venture.
Mozart had to eat after all, and Picasso was no communist, despite believing himself one for a while. The arts and business thrives best together, when they're out of sync we get the hollow anti-culture we're currently just trying to survive trough.

It was chaotic in Eastern Europe during the 90s.

how did they succeed with jungle book but fuck up tarzan??

Why does every faggot in these threads act like good movies don't exist anymore? Tons of great things get made every year, the only reason faggots like you don't talk about them is because YOU are the plebs here, the same you claim to despise so much.

The decline of whites is unique and unprecedented

A century from now Europe will just be known as a place where Arabs live and The United States will be mentioned in the same breath as Mexico, Brazil, Columbia, Argentina, etc.

I hope the chinks do better with the world than we did but... not real likely is it?

Wow.

Yeah, but who gives a shit about Eastern Europe? Shit was cool in America, and that's all that really matters. Anyone who disagrees is free to go to an imageboard created by someone from, and hosted in, their country.

But we aren't?
We're talking mainstream Hollywood and general audiences here, and why the former is failing to appease the later, as seen in bloated budgets and flop after flop.

I can't believe James Rolfe singlehandedly destroyed the movie industry by telling people not to watch shitty films...

The US had race riots in the early 90s in LA, the first WTC terrorist attack in NY in 1993, and the highest murder rate in the early 90s.

What can be done about the spics?

For comparison, the major flops of 2015:
Pan
Jupiter Ascending
Seventh Son
The Last Witch Hunter

Imagine how many refugees are going to go north when Africa's water table collapses

Good. (((Hollywood))) needs to die

>dude fuck the next generations! LMAO
no, but seriously, trying to argue that we owe anything to future generations is pretty fucking hard

Don't google "great African migration crisis" or "fortress Europe"

If it helps bury Charlize Theron's career, then I'll be happy.

Where's the Cuban Missile Crisis clock?

The Center for Political Beauty

The Center for Political Beauty is an assault team that establishes moral beauty, political poetry and human greatness while aiming to preserve humanitarianism. The group’s basic understanding is that the legacy of the Holocaust is rendered void by political apathy, the rejection of refugees and cowardice. It believes that Germany should not only learn from its History but also take action.

The Center for Political Beauty engages in the most innovative forms of political performance art- an expanded approach to theatre: art must hurt provoke and rise in revolt. In one basic alliance of terms: aggressive humanism. The Center‘s exhibitions and plays were shown at Gorki Theatre, the 7th Berlin Biennale, ZKM Karlsruhe, Steirischer Herbst, NGBK, and HMKV, amongst others.

Was star trek beyond a bomb?

Jupiter Ascending got pretty good reviews if I recall, the plot was just kinda nonsense.

It's actually one of the few franchise-y things that turned out to be good this year. Apparently even Trekkies liked it.

26% on RT

>hispanics will increase by 50% over a period of about 40 years
>blacks will stay the same, azn increase marginally.
>white people are still the majority

wow, its fucking nothing.

>Jews increase media control
>ridiculous feminist nigger agendas get pushed
>it all goes down the drain
it's not like this is the first time in history this has happened

>46%
>majority
What's going to happen is, as the country goes to shit and all the social programs become over burdened (plus the over saturation of the labor markets) we'll see growing ethnic conflict. Even though whites will stabilize around 40-45% of the population, the fact that there won't be an over arching and unifying cultural identity will be what makes the economic and social conflicts take on a racial and ethnic tone. We already see a lot of this today. In the end we'll probably see the balkanization of the US due to this

example of another time it happened?

On the other hand, looking at all the blockbuster flops, i am reminded of when many of the major studios were in dire straights in the 1960s, cleopatra almost bankrupted 20th century fox.

I should say though that it will make for some great documentaries. We'll see a similar thing in Europe with France, the UK, and Germany having their own ethnic conflicts as they become less French, British, and German. Eastern European countries will see, with time, a huge influx of Western European immigration and thus we'll probably see conflict from that as well

> tfw a day will come that a youngster 15-20 years your junior will ask you about 9/11 as a historical event and what life was like before and after it.

>home recorded sports tapes

Fuck, I have terrible nostalgia from seeing that fucking tape in that image. The family always recorded that shit and played it non-stop. I was trapped in a fucking play pen. $%&B$%&H%

One was disney, the other was WB

Remember the movie Elysium? It was literally spics from South America to the top of Canada.

>white kid
Buttblasted shit skin with an inferiority complex detected

That is literally the youtube title. Google it.

>only a matter of time before the USA gets Rhodesia'd

>i-it's the title
Yeah not deny that, the fact that you saved it like that just goes to show.

See here's the thing: high definition isn't good for everything. Not everything looks good with a sharper image, some things look better with a softer image. You can test this by watching YouTube videos in lower resolutions than offered. Try comparing 360-480p to 720-1080p.

46% is a higher percentage than 30% user. did you drop out of basic math? Oh, you mean, if you combine all the non white ethnicities, like that matters because one ethnicity, white people, still make up nearly half. You are acting as if all the minority ethnic groups get along and are working toward a future free of whitey but there is no proof of that at all.

>without a unifying culture america will crumble!

It certainly will with that attitude. You could also, alternatively, work with the other Americans in your country toward maintaining a american culture. american culture will still be present despite the shift in ethnicities.

Nah, it's going to balkanize into three to five different nations after a series of long bloody conflicts that hit open fighting somewhere around 2060.

What the fuck do the Mexicans want from us? They have their entire country to themselves.

he would have had to redo the image macro for an extra movie.

I don't know if you heard, but Mexico is complete shit.

I'm too lazy to retitle it when I used Webm for Gits. But, whatever. I'll enjoy my white gated community while you rage about your nigger neighbors or whatever it your problem.
