Why do most NFL teams suck, Sup Forums? Why is it that out of the 32, only 3 or say 4 make it consistently to the postseason?

muh salary cap
muh parity

Because the NFL, like most major American sports, has a system that rewards failure. Poor performance is rewarded with better draft picks.

Obviously if you're terminally bad like the Browns that won't help, but tanking for one season is a legitimate strategy in American sport.

Most teams only care about money not winning

because it's all about the quarterback

it's the most important position in the game

look at the packers. only an idiot would've counted them out but rodgers is obviously elite and is almost worth 10 wins by himself

contrast that with the raiders who were rolling all year with carr then he gets hurt and they freefall

Not always, but it can certainly be the case for most teams, like the 2011 Colts being the primary example.

The Patriots have replaced tom a few times and won a string of games without him.

which 4 are we talking about

>all about the quarterback
ultimate casual pleb opinion
you CAN win with a dominant qb, or you can win with a dominant defense
Peyton played a a terrible level last year and the Broncos won. Seattle won their championship with Wilson playing well, but their defense playing lights out. '07 giants won by holding an undefeated team to 14 points in the super bowl. '05 Steelers won with Roethlisberger playing at a barely serviceable level. '02 Bucs and '00 Ravens had shit quarterbacks with GOAT defenses. I could go on, but the point is clear- elite qbs are nice to have and win many years, but to say it's "all about the quarterback" is simplistic and dumb.

There is no parody is GODdells nfl

Packers, Patriots, Steelers, Seahawks
AKA the teams that pay the NFL the most money.

***yawn***

((((sage)))
(((reported)))

This the NFL has the illusion of parity but actual change takes 10 years or so to occur. Everyone forgets the Dolphins dominated the AFC East for over 20 years. Or the Raiders were one of the winningest franchises back in the day. Or the Packers were garbage in the 70's and 80's. It all cycles eventually the Packers and Patriots will suck one day and they'll all sit around crying about past success like 49ers and Cowboys fans do.

the game is very dependent on QB performance, and only a few QBs are consistently good

This.
The NFL needs to adopt the lottery system to achieve parity.

There's only 3-4 elite qbs

>you CAN win with one dominant player, or you can win with eleven dominant players
nobody builds a dynasty without a good QB

Because it's a fuckin hard game to play. Quit bitching because TWO games weren't as close as you expected

90% of games are shit

> op says consistently
> you spew off memes like an idiot

> Peyton played a a terrible level last year and the Broncos won.
yeah and did they make the playoffs this year? same exact defense, same offense minus petyon. when's the last time a superb owl WINNER misses the playoffs the next year without massive turn around? they made the playoffs every year peyton was there

> Seattle won their championship with Wilson playing well, but their defense playing lights out.
seattle was complete shit without a steady quarterback
hasselbeck and wilson provided stability in a franchise that has had 5 10 win seasons in their entire history before pete carroll

> '07 giants won by holding an undefeated team to 14 points in the super bowl
eli manning

> '05 Steelers won with Roethlisberger playing at a barely serviceable level.
they've won the division almost every year he's been there which is an automatic playoff home game

> '02 Bucs and '00 Ravens had shit quarterbacks with GOAT defenses. I could go on, but the point is clear- elite qbs are nice to have and win many years, but to say it's "all about the quarterback" is simplistic and dumb.
congrats on naming 2 of the biggest meme teams in the modern era and proving my point

ravens have been a franchise since 1996 and only made the playoffs 4 times before flacco, and since him they've made it 6 times in 8 years

to be consistent you need an above-average quarterback. it's not that fucking hard

as said. nobody builds a dynasty without a good QB

Winning one Super Bowl =/= building a dynasty.
The truth is that a decent team + meme magic can equal a team win a Super Bowl because of the single elimination format.

Baltimore 2012 is a prime example.

No, the Broncos didn't make the playoffs because they lost based Brock.

Terrible owners and general managers. The past 10-15 years pretty much, or at least, the same teams have been getting the top picks and blowing them. Horrible drafting and signing bad coaches has been killling teams like the Browns, Raiders, etc. for years now.

>he thinks the early 2000's bucs were a meme team

Either you're underage or a complete casual

...

Shit opinion is shit

Because muh parity. Everybody has to win a superbowl otherwise it's not fair. The superbowl is just a participation medal

>Two of the best defensive units of the past 20 years are meme teams.
You are the reason the NFL is dying.
Kill yourself

Futbol is the superior sport anyways. It is Jogo Bonito, the beautiful game!

>Implying "Joga Bonito" soccer is played nowadays.
So that's football and soccer.
Got any other sport that you know nothing of?

the early 2000s buccs were memes

they had an incredible defense yes, but they only made the playoffs 3 times in that era and 2 times they were one and one to the eagles who had a legit qb (mcnabb) and they didn't even score a single TD in those games. as soon as they got brad johnson they were successful

once again OP said consistent

kill yourself mexifag

dilfer is the ultimate game manager meme, he fully admits that himself

in the modern era consistent qbs are

brady
rodgers
the manning brothers
brees
big ben

since 2002 every single afc quarterback in the superb owl has been named peyton manning, tom brady or ben roethlisberger with the exception of the raiders/bucs and ravens/49er owls which were both defensive memes

that's 13 years out of 15 owls of consistent dominance. that's insane

meanwhile the NFC has been memeing it up hard. in the same span they sent 10 different quarterbacks in a row to the superb owl and only eli manning has been the repeat guy until russell wilson

This. Britain dropping truthbombs.

Game manager =/= meme, dipshit.
2000 Ravens was one of the best (if not the best) run defense of all time, faggot. That limits the playbook the opponent has, and the impact of PA as well.
We all know that great D, great rushing attack (J. Lewis in that team) and a game manager can win you a title. Just look at Brady's first Super Bowl run.

2002 Bucs had a shitload of playmakers in defense, and they all had solid seasons that year.

Also, what the fuck do consistent QBs in the AFC have to do with my point?

the OP said consistently making the playoffs

the buccs and ravens were flashes in the pan, they are exceptions to the norm

they rode their defense to a title which is of course great but they couldn't keep it going because to build a consistent team/dynasty you NEED a good quarterback

it's what sets apart the current xehawks from them because wilson is good enough to keep them competitive

the reason ben, brady, and manning kept going was because they are elite

> having elite quarterback > having elite defense over long-term because you will have more chances
> elite defense = smaller window

Who is talking about the OP? Fuck that guy, he is a faggot.
I just want to know how the 2000 Ravens are a meme.

they're a meme in terms of the scenario that OP laid out

ray lewis is a once in a generation player who may be an actual murderer and should've been suspended during that owl year we now he used "muh deer antler spray" to heal a torn tricep at the age of 37 and should've been suspended again

Oh, so you are one of those guys that calls pretty much everything "a meme".
Never mind.

it's impossible to get retards out of the front office and it's impossible to win with retards in the front office
>muh owners

this is unironically true
Texans coach is a delusional retard and has a scheme that only works for Brady-tier QBs

Oh yes, because the NBA is the poster child of parity, right?

The world has a limited amount of good people at management or coaching. And some owners are more about money than sport.

how is the system at Serie A working?

>plebposting

>Why is it that out of the 32, only 3 or say 4 make it consistently to the postseason?

Because it’s all about marketing and getting the _national_ tv audience.

The Lions for example, have long time loyal fans but they’re a regional favorite, the Refhawks, Fudgepackers, Cowshits and Cheatriots have tons of fair-weather bandwagon “fans” across the country and that means more viewers for their games (particularly in the playoffs and Superbowl) and that means the NFL can jack-up the tv ad rates.

Thus, we get refball as we saw today with the Lions v Seahawks game, to insure those teams with large national tv audiences make it to the post-season.

no dude i'm sure the (((nfl))) isn't fixed. it's just a coincidence bad calls routinely favor some teams, goy

-too many old ass senile owners. teams have not changed hands in decades. compared to the NBA where there is more team turnover and you have young smart owners from the tech sphere.
-coaching carousel. same old retarded coaches get swapped around endlessly, not enough new guys get a chance. owners dont even know how to pick a coach.
-muh results/winning the press conference, the result of which is that organizations never have time or patience to develop a culture. most of the time there is a two year window to win or show progress or else you are shitcanned and it pushes an ugly reset button on everything. it becomes a mercenary culture where everyone is looking out for themselves, mainly in the front office. it also causes GMs to make stupid short-term moves to try and save their jobs, instead of building for the future.
-rules changes have made the game too focused on the quarterback. its incredibly difficult to get in the necessary reps to develop a quarterback. nobody has patience. when the team is dysfunctional nobody wants to isolate why and they usually just blame the struggling QB and hit the reset button.

>lottery system
>NBA has it
>between 1985 and 2014 only 8 different teams won a title
>7 if you exclude one time winner Dallas mavs
This post was so dumb I had to post 5 hours after to prove how stupid you are

>to be consistent you need an above average quarterback.

Because the focus on scoring, aka making the game attractive (to casuals), is ruining the game.

Can you actually provide an example of a team willing to tank a season just to get a draft pick? Players get sent down or waived for not giving 110%, but this idea that am nba team would willingly lose games to improve their chances in the draft lottery (a very very common talking point, I might add) sounds counterproductive to me

O line is important to protect that qb from injury famalam

the coaching / executive talent pool isn't large enough, so if you get a coaching staff who has their shit together you can just completely dominate everyone else. And college coaching jobs are sometimes just as good or better than pro jobs so there is no incentive for a coach like Harbaugh to go to the fucking Browns because he can just take over a top tier college team, earn more money than in the pros and be treated as a god and fuck college coeds for beating up shitters all year.
Also owners have way too large influence over team matters.

There have been a bunch of high profile retirements and injuries in the last two years; most people would take a pay cut for a chance to be part of an NFL team, it's a dream job

You're right Seamus, the 76ers and the Colts have done so well with that strategy.

>NFL
Possible but like with Luck at Indy, it's not one player that changes a franchise. Not common at all

>NBA
A few teams did it but none came close to the title and I don't think that any of those culprits ever made the playoffs

>MLB
Impossible, most draftees take years before they're ready for the big league

It's a very real known tactic in the nba to do this. If it's clear you won't be getting anywhere a lot of teams will simply trade away whats left of their good players or let them leave in free agency so they have cap space and a better draft pick later. Look at the 76ers, if they wanted to they could of went for anyone in free agency but went for no one, and instead trade away their players like mcw who were at least decent.

Because the NFL is so competitive that one little slip up can lose you your season. Only a handful of teams are at a level of complete shit and thats mostly due to the managers.

>Seattle won their championship with Wilson playing well, but their defense playing lights out
nah, the Broncos just played like shit.

not true
Manning put up crazy numbers but he couldn't punch it in because the seattle d was so good

This thread is about how no one is consistently challenging outside of a few of the very top teams. Let's say someone finishes 6th in the AFC, someone else finishes 12th. While it might be a leap for that 12th place team to reach the playoffs or contend for the owl, the draft pick (combined with a favorable schedule, which is the other major factor) might help push them up closer to or above that team that finished 6th.

>

>the draft pick
how college players turn out in the NFL is extremely unpredictable. More importantly, one great player can't make a large impact alone like they can in the NBA.
Also you'd have to start tanking in October at the latest to ensure the #1 draft pick. The only people in the past ten years who were considered so talented that they were already consensus #1 picks at that point were Luck and Clowney and neither of them are even the best players in their positions right now let alone franchise defining champions.

>a favorable schedule
like you said the point of the entire thread is that most teams are very inconsistent so that's completely meaningless.

No one tanks in the NFL

You almost had it but long story short it is easier to keep and pay one amazing player i.e. QB then it is to pay 11+ amazing defensive players. Also the 2000 Ravens had some good offensive players at the time like Shannon Sharpe.

The issue with the NFL is it actually isn't that competitive. The rules have become so over complicated the refs can't do their jobs correctly on top of that blatant rigging hurt durr we can't review penalties it'd slow the game as they go to a 15 minute commercial block between two 3 and outs.

>best run defense of all time
They had the best defense in general. They beat my Giants in the owl so I'm stiIll a bit salty but good for them to be honest

...
