Good but not even in the same ballpark as Kubrick or Scorsese.

Have you not watched any of his movies? He is definitely a genius when it comes to film.

He's half-autistic and managed to copy what he likes about his favorite movies with dialogue based on his favorite comedian's lingo and sustain that combo for 8 movies.

...

...

Yes.

He's ok. He's had a few good ideas but has never been able to rise above gratuitous violence and getting away with saying nigger. You want truly great? Go with Kubrick or Lynch

...

Why not both?

Kubrick is genius.

Lynch is excellent but overhyped, his real talent is experimentation not execution.

Tarantino is excellent, but it's popular to hate him. He applys the same style to different genres, but has great execution.

Im a big fan of all three. Kubrick is the only one who really is gifted across the board, and should be considered genius.

This is true of most directors. Tarantino just talked about it openly.

Give me anything that Kubrick did that was as brilliant as the first season of twin peaks or Mulholland Dr. Not possible.

2001.

A Clockwork Orange

When he grows up he'll probably be great.

Dr. Strangelove

See

Worthless

Lynch just makes Word Salad: The Movie over and over. I like him but he's no genius.

>word salad
You mean EXACTLY what Tarantino does? Ok

He's not a genius and he may be overrated, but he makes some pretty entertaining films.

his movies are stupid and violent, the dialog affects sophistication but is really just drivel.
but since americans are much the same its lauded as genius. simply put an orang-utan in a world of baboons seems genius to the red assed majority but is still a big orange ape.

Can't he be both?

I don't think you know what word salad means. I like both directors but I don't consider either of them a genius.

Kill Bill was easily the greatest movie ever made.

It's my favorite movie.

Genius

The world isn't binary

Yes he is a genius, but that doesn't mean he isn't also overrated

It's like the high school hot shot autists that watch cosmos too much and think they are smarter than Einstein and claim he isn't a genius

Yes Einstein's a genius, and yes he's overrated

He is both

He's a total prick but no one can deny that he's a genius when it comes to making movies.
Basically all of his movies have you on the edge of your seat the entire time. And considering how much of a stupid douchebag he sounds like in interviews, it's a mystery to me how he manages to make his movies look so goddamn artistic.
Making movies is in his blood.

What are you fucking talking about Einstein isn't overrated.

Nope. Not even a little bit. If you specifically want martial arts/swordplay go with 13 Assassins. Head and shoulders above kill bill

self-conscious faggot

Because "genius" should not be applied so cavalierly.

He panders to libtards, so that makes him a genius, I guess.

He's the Kevin Smith of action movies.

Eyes Wide Shut has actual layers of meaning. Twin Peaks and Mulholland Drive simply rely on opacity to imply depth of thought.

take a break

This may be unpopular, but I actually would put Cronenberg in this list. There are some average movies in his catalog, but overall he's solid.

That's what Fred said about Donny.

>no one can deny
Wow! Suspend disbelief much?

Overrated af

>panders to libtards
And yet he manages to be soooo fascist.
#OnlyInMurikkka

You can be a contrarian dick for the sake of feeling special also.

Overrated as fuck. The guy is a hack.

One of the best directors ever.
''Or

You're asking for any singular movie to compare to an entire season of works.

It's not contrarian to believe this guy is not a filmmaking genius. Just stop suspending your disbelief and you'll see why. He is simpleminded and noisy. Yuck!

Ad captandum vulgus.

>He is simpleminded and noisy. Yuck!
I said that myself, you retard.
He comes across like a total douchebag in interviews and not very smart.
But the quality of his movies in terms of dialogue, direction, visuals, etc... speaks for itself.
He is a genius when it comes to movies.

he's a clever monkey
nothing more

Paths to Glory
>the execution scene.
>invention of the suspenseful 'long-shot'.

Why do you consider kubrick a genius director? Can you give me some examples

A pony of few tricks. He becomes monotonous.

>genius

neither, he's an interesting director that makes some interesting highly stylized movies.

Pulp Fiction was the only amazing movie he's ever made. His other movies are pretty good, but not genius.

bait

even david lynch would admit he's not even in the same league as kibrick. 2001 is a movie that plays like a symphony. Dr. Strangelove is the greatest satire of the last century.

if you like dreamlike surrealism with no solid narrative, sure lynch is the guy. But if you want groundbreaking films that progress movie making as an art form no one comes close to Kubrick.

eyes wide shit was good in the european version. the american edit made no sense.

The former

this

the most clear indication of how limited he is is the fact that he blew his load in kill bill 1, leaving part 2 completely lackluster, to the point of being unmemorable, and even unnecessary.

The climax of part 1 should have been the climax of part 2.

a person is not "a genuis" genuis is something that strikes are person, and may leave soon after. His work on pulp fiction was genius, nothing else he's done since has been.

Did you just read that out of some USC professors text book

>not even in the same ballpark as scorsese

Sccorsese, the guy who has literally dropped in quality over his career? The guy who made classics like casino and goodfellas but now spends his time pissing over new releases?

Theyre not even in the same ballpark because scorsese was just relegated to the fucking lower division

I guess you haven't been struck with the "genuis" yet sice you spelled genius wrong twice

For someone that hasn't seen the eu version, what's the difference?

yes to both

he's good but not a genius, his shit relies on old unused cliche's

Came yo say he's fucking overrated and that his writing is shit. Interesting stories, usually.

lol, I'm not trying to be a dick, but "unused cliche" is an oxymoron.

it's a single movie split into 2 parts...

overrated as shit
reservoir dogs is decent - the rest is mediocre, with usually one or two good monologues/scenes per film (dead nigger storage, watch up my ass, etc...)

Is the full movie available before he cut it in two?

Good visuals, scene building, camerawork.

Shouldn't try to write stories. Bad stories. Pedantic dialogue. Always bleeds into prolixity with it. Very rarely charms, like Kevin Smith using a similar device.

I'd say rather the oposite... the best Tarantinomovie is, and will alway be, True Romance.

Note how that was scripted by QT but made before he had enough Hollywood clout to direct and produce his own movies.

Trump? Is that you lurking?

Ha ha gotteem

If you are asking this question you obviously know nothing of film.

Overrated, his dialogue is annoying. Never got the appeal.

>clockwork
adaptation but pretty well delivered. Not nearly as good as the book was, but that's rare.
>shining
see previous comment.

Bullshit, Scorsese made The Departed just 11 years ago and it's one of his best ever.

Shutter Island was great too, and that was just 7 years ago.

Wolf of Wallstreet was a generic, average movie I'll admit. But we can't hit a home run every time.

ITT:
a bunch of fools that don't realize art is subjective.

The Departed is Infernal Affair ripoff

Pleb who thinks art is subjective because he doesn't know any theory to back up his claim.

>pleb
>says the pretentious douche
If it illicits emotion, it is art
If it makes you think, it is art
If it causes debate, it just may be art

>If it illicits emotion, it is art

supreme artist

Genius? Who cares? Great filmmaker? Absolutely.

And a person is free to say it sucks if that's how they feel.

fun fact: tarantino is into crush fetish

Art is easy to define but hard to put in a box as easy it is to define is hard to be achieve that's why not everything is actually art, no matter what art dealers say. With that say between those two options no matter if they are literally accurate Quentin would be a Genius because he created his own world with violence and found the balance necessary to walk the fine unstable line of art and generic.

and feet

Res dogs was good as well

But both Paul and res had Roger Avery involved....after he left, quintin went to shit...

Watch Killing Zoe, and it will make sense who really had the talent

Both

>pulp

He's picked scenes from obscure movies and mixed them with his own personal fetishes. Pretty low-brow. Nothing to see here. Not fit to clean Kubrick's shoes.

completely overrated retard
but people have shit taste and like shit so they like that shit he shits and call it movies

Well, if we are talking just Tarantino, I would say Reservoir Dogs is the best movie he's ever made.
