Hey Sup Forums I'm writing a book set in 1950's. What does that time period make you think about?

My Dad called the 50s The Great Pussy Famine.

Your dad sounds like a cool guy.

No coloreds allowed.

ten years for the sixties?

Cars didnt look like shit

Easy access to amphetamines to make up for the really bad coffee.

MAGA

Women made amazing sandwiches

Grease

Racism being alive and well

leather and cigarettes.

This. All the racism and non cringy fedoras. Also gangsters and good old fashioned american values. Wife beating. Men carrying briefcases to and from work. Dads smoking pipes in their studies while drinking bourbon. Does this help? Oh and detectives drinking coffee alone in late-night diners. Kids that say gee whiz. Old school gangfights between white kids

...

Women were classy back then, beautiful housewives

It makes me realize that we as men had to be more intelligent and tactful to attract women, other now you can just send a dick pick anonymously if you feel like it.

It tells me that things were harder and more dangerous. No hand sanitizer for them.
No, you just had to be smart enough to protect yourself and have a good immune system

It means that to be handsome and have nice cars like the men in OP's pic, you had too also have leathery hands and callused feet from sweating and working for 10 hours a day, weather it be construction or warehouse work

Its these guys that were our grandfathers, that sat and watched us as their grandkids with cereal, cartoons and personality destroying cellphones and ipads.

They wanted to help us be strong and sturdy, take us into the wild and teach how to survive.

And now they are all gone, and these "men" as we call them cry because words hurt and they want to grow titties and look like a girl because of mommy issues.

Fuck this gay earth, I stare out at the sky every night for that one comet or asteroid to come crashing to Earth to spare the universe of this faggot cancer that humanity has become.

>post-war economic boom
>rock and roll
>Teenage rebellion
>SMOKE
>Golden age of American automobiles

This is all assuming it takes place in America, of course. What's it about?

DDT and segregation.

This is a Ddt worker (back) and he's spraying the pool full of white kids.

It's poetic ignorance....or is it?

You bought your condoms, which were rubbers, from a machine in a piss reeking gas station (only certain stations, you had to know) bathroom, and you got two for a quarter. You'd try to get it on without her noticing because it would piss her off, because it meant A) you were planning on fucking her because you think she's a whore, so you were ready, and B) you thought she was scody enough you might catch something off of her. A blow job was the last thing you were going to get, not the first, and only after you'd been prodding her for months. There were no girl's soccer leagues or gymnastics classes, and dance was lame, so they were all soft and squishy and a toned set of legs was very seldom seen. Nobody had even heard of herpes yet, let alone the plague.

Born in le rong generashunn right guys?

From my grandparents perspective,
>life is more laid back, but you have to work harder if that makes sense.
>derelict parts of town were thriving
>candy was 10 cents

Does anyone remember that stupid Smallville episode, stupid of course, that was set in the 1950's??

it was horrible

every man was a closet homo pretty much.
Also every decade before the 90s, you would be intoxicated with second hand smoke everywhere you went.
Especially airplanes and cinemas

Very good gome decor

>gome

Mind elaborating a little more on the book?

Prude culture.
In TV or movies only kiss was allowed.
Teenagers dancing on hops in high-schools, supervised by parents or teachers. Some of them were abusive.
Popular way to make out or get scored was backseat in backalley or drive in theater.

No porn. Sleazy night clubs with raunchy striptease only. Or prostitutes.

Communism
Nuclear energy
Spaceflight

Mabey because JFK got shot and everything spiraled down hill from there

These hot dog eating, coke drinking kids are now 70-year-old fat fucks riding their scooters in Walmart

the platters

It's funny how we interpret the past through the advertisements they had.

How much is our world like the advertisements we see today?

I would consider the 1950s as the time when gender was not a complicated topic

Stuff like this is golden

A 14-year-old works 40 hours at minimum wage in 1955; same scenario in 2017; the 1955 kid could buy a shit-load more candy than the 2017 kid, even though the 2017 kid makes a shit-load more money.

Jesus, son. Take off the fucking nostalgia glasses.

>It means that to be handsome and have nice cars like the men in OP's pic, you had too also have leathery hands and callused feet from sweating and working for 10 hours a day, weather it be construction or warehouse work

There were plenty of white collar respectable jobs. Now as a man you could support your household with a middle class job, that is true. But there were plenty of what you'd consider 'men' that weren't in those blue collar jobs.

>They wanted to help us be strong and sturdy, take us into the wild and teach how to survive.

That might be what they had wanted, but the reality was many of them were absent in the homes and incapable of figuring out how to transmit what they saw as manhood to their sons. That disconnection, that 'absent dad at home' led to much of the counterculture of the 60's. They were just as shitty as fathers in the present and clueless as to how to be effective fathers in their own 'modern age'.

Pretty much all the shit that happens now happened then to varying degrees. Life is waaaaay safer now, especially in regards to things like building code and vehicular safety. There were addicts (usually alcohol due to the availability) unwed mothers, back alley abortions, gay sex, crossdressers, drug users and plenty of crime to go around.

>Higher Standers of living
Go live in a 50's built house and a modern house, even a modest one. Fuck, my 'manufactured home' back in the mid 90's was better than any shit any of my grandparents lived in. Fucking electrical wiring alone was a goddamn nightmare and every fucking window leaked air. And no fucking air conditioning or central air.
>You can leave your door or car unlocked at night with no problems
Still happens in many places. Just depends on where you live, just like back then.
>The golden age of automotive design and engineering
I will give you that. Cars had style, and there was a willingness to experiment even to varying degrees of silliness. But maybe part of that was the newness/figuring things out factor. Cars were way more shitty back then. 100k on your car was fucking magical, and you'd be burning a quart of oil a week at least. My last truck hit 300k easy and is still going in someone else's hands.
>No Rap
Eh, I don't have a dog in that hunt.
>Blacks acted respectable (but everyone still hated them) now they act like dumbasses (and everyone tries to defend them)
Some do, some don't. I think blacks were given an opportunity and squandered it. They do deserve a heaping serving of blame for all their problems.
>At the age of 13 kids were practically adults
Some were, some weren't. Probably closer to 16 was the truth. The ones that were did it out of necessity, not out of some golden age of manhood.
>You could get a high school diploma and still earn a high paying job
True enough.
>Everyone smoked and noone cared if it killed you
People knew it was bad for you. Shit's a lot cleaner now if nothing else. I remember walking into homes and businesses that absolutely reeked in the 70's and 80's. I don't fucking miss that.
>No Feminists
They were there, not in name but the goals were very different.

>con't

>No SJWs
This is something I agree with you about. That shit is just stupid.
>People actually respected each other
Bullshit. This was a very class oriented society and still is. It may have been a bit more polite (and I'd argue much of it is in public, still) out in the open but there was plenty of vitriol to go around. People are shitty apes and that hasn't changed.
>Gas price was low
Fucking A. I'm old enough to have drivin in the 80's when gas dropped into the .60 range. That was fucking glorious in my 77 sunbird.
>Non of this global warming crap
We were contributing to it whether we knew it or not.
>And Cars had Tailfins
I'm much more of a mid 60's guy. Not much on the fin cars, but they were cool.

Someone realizes we live in a simulation

Add to that the various codes of decency that were applied to everything in media.

I'd love to see the pearl-clutchers reactions to the world today.

Respectable insight user, I appreciate your perspective on this, I just want the good ole' days back

Racism. Lots and lots of racism.

There's a part of me that would love to live during that time period, especially as someone who digs drag racing. The hot rodding culture was incredible, drag strips were everywhere and basically anyone with a little know how and the right car could compete. It's much more a money game now. (and yes I know the pic is probably from the early 60's, but whatever).

The 50s was a glorious time, a truly wild time for drugs. This was when you could buy methamphetamine from the pharmacy and morphine pills for your sore back. It was also normal for a pharmacy/chemist to sell the building blocks for these chemicals, with pretty much nothing banned. If you couldn't buy it, then you could sure as he'll buy the things to make it yourself.

No one suspected a thing, drugs weren't really known among the ignorant public and the wolves who did know pretty much had free reign to use and abuse.

This of course was ruined by the hippies and their drug use, which associated drug use with degeneracy in the minds of conservative voters.

kek 50's cars look like trash

this never existed

The cold war, cheap gas, anything made in Japan was junk, immigrants wanted to be American, America was the greatest country in the world. Elvis hip gyrations were scandalous.Niggers were politely called Negroes. When we got our first black teacher at my elementary school the white teachers explained to us that she was a Negress. Communism was viewed as a threat. TV was black and white. I love lucy was a hit. Duck tail haircuts. Big cars. No seat belts. The gas cap on a cadillac was hidden beneath its tail light.
