They used to live the American Southwest, they don't really need tropical jungles as far as I am aware.
Didn't know about that. But it's very clear in the mapuche tales that they talk about something different from a mountain lion, but closer to a tiger. Maybe we had them at one time. They are gone tho. Quite sad honestly. I'd turn half of this country into a reserve if I had the power.

This is an Asiatic lion. It is endemic to Gir region of Gujarat. It is the smaller version of its African cousin. (much like Asiatic elephant in that regard).
