Is there actually any good jpop, or is it all memes? All the normie stuff is painful to listen to. I was going to put this in Sup Forums, but they'd just meme me further.

is probably where you'd want to ask
i dont know much jpop but perfume is popular and decent. jap bands are pretty decent though.
Who is that in the down left?
matsui jurina
J-pop is very vast, idol pop is not the only thing that exists. Go listen a few albums by Sheena Ringo and come back with an opinion.
idolshit is shit and in the world of idols it's been clearly established that 2d >>>>>>>> 3d
This ladm8 has good advice.
Are you the guy into love live from KC?
No?
oh ok. Do you like Sheena Ringo?
Yep. Also Tokyo Jihen.
For a bit of diversity I would also suggest OP could check out Soutaisei Riron, Cornelius and The Pillows.
Nice. Despite how mainstream she's in japan is kinda strange how unknown she's in the west. Only in hipster circles you hear sometimes about "that crazy japanese teacup album". I guess the cultural gap is just too large.
I thought only kpop idols all looked the same.
Ling toshite shigure is nice
Same shit kpop just make anime
mostly utter shit unbearably bad. Ive never listened j-pop for a long time.
my favorite
I don't know about jpop but...
Imperial Circus Dead Decadence is some nice ass J-Rock band yoooooooooooo
I liked Unravel
Looks edgy asf
They actually don't(can't) play any instruments but has been in succeed recently
You might like Soil & "Pimp" Sessions or similar groups.
Mayumi Morinaga has some good stuff, not all of it is J-Pop but still pretty good.
youtube.com
Look for music in games from BEMANI, they have some of your typical cringy DDR music in games from the early 2000s (which is to be expected since they DID make DDR themselves). But newer games have some really good shit.
Perfume and anison.
Of course the normie stuff is cringy, what did you expect?
How does Vocaloid work? plz tell me
the emperor wills it so it just magically works
Why is visual kei looks so gay. They all look like characters from final fantasy.
It makes 80's glam rockers look straight
mah nigga, i really like Sheena Ringo, i think she does good music.
wtf, it isn't gratingly inhuman and badly aligned to instrumental, like they usually are. That's a surprise.
99% of idol pop is unbearable. They don't even attempt. They feature the cutest ones as the lead singers. It's pretty much just a front for all the gravure and cutesy entertainment. It's like a mafia laundering their money, making it society-worthy. Oh no I'm not masturbating to and falling in love with a pornstar, she's a singer!
They have real singers but they used to have a bigger regular music industry back in the day. There's a fuckton of good 80s j-pop, top of the line if you like the sound of the age. All of the vaporwave etc. crap of recent years borrows heavily from 80s j-pop because they had such good shit.
The golden age of jpop is 1990s actually. 1980s was full of idol shit, but most of them were single and diverse, unlike nowadays full of arr rook the same group shit.
Nakamori Akina is the best 1980s idol in my opinion.
youtu.be
1990s was the age of the male idols. Same shit, different sex.
And it's pretty odd comparing someone like Akina Nakamori to modern idols. She's like Rihanna if anything (scouted, laid a lone singing career). A true "idol" perhaps, but not the kind we see today.
The Japanese entertainment industry is literally a human trafficking pipeline. If you think it's about the music, you're naive.
Idol groups are just a facet of pornography/prostitution.
kpop > jpop
Do you like Especia?
They're something of a throwback to that sound. Think crisp Yamaha DX sounds and house piano samples.
I don't recommend the latest album though.
>1990s was the age of the male idols
Absolutely wrong, 1990s was the recession of idol. Rock bands and Komuro family were in peak
Here's the 80s
en.wikipedia.org
I'm not seeing any idols here either.
As long as you don't google translations, it's decent, yes.
Where as when I think of idols in the 90s...

Johnny's Jr. was also apparently formed sometimes in the 1980s but information is hard to find. Nonetheless they bloomed in the 90s.
Singles chart is more representative.
en.m.wikipedia.org
The reason why smap succeeded is because of drama and variety show, not music
Well they sure had plenty of number one singles like you hypothesized as the measure for success.
Those doujins of love live and idolmaster don't lie
It might look gayish for you but we don't see them as gayish
number one singles is the sign of their success but it doesn't mean their song made them popular.
Why jpop choreography looks like kindergarten party, but kpop idols are so synced, they resemble some kind of advanced robots?
I just listen to whatever I like that I come across in anime.
What about male j-pop idols?
The point of jpop is that the audience consists of thirsty losers who want to fuck the girls but since they can't they obsessively purchase merchandise and go to their concerts. If you're listening to the music you're retarded.
these topics always go the same way with the same exact recommendations as if they're above it that are guilty of the same shit lmao
oh
That isn't Vocaloid, though. That's yanagi nagi's cover.
The original by supercell is Vocaloid, though: youtube.com
And then there's the fact that yanagi nagi was the singer of supercell's second album, Today is a Beautiful Day. Which brings me to:
supercell. Especially Zigaexperientia. Has been literally my favorite album for the last three years and I don't care if you call me a faggot for it.
Youtube Red. We have a shitload of Japanese music videos blocked because of it.
