BERMUDA, BAHAMA OOOH I FUCKED YO MOMMA

So you guys activel dislike each other?

Vietnam always fought against China so I think they'll hate each other. Vietnam was too strong.

Yes, and it's a no meme.

...

China is NIPP'D
Vietnam is CHINK'D

China is MAO'D
Vietnam is MINH'D

You guys have such a similar culture. Why do you hate each other?

We were called Giao Chỉ (dunno what it called in Chinese), a part of China for a thousand years. In that times, there were countless rebellions happen, although just about ten rebellions are known now, Chinese cleaned most rebellions from history. After that, we gained independent, China still tried to invade for every centuries or so. Now, they stop trying, but still want to fuck us up.

It's more like we never had an independent and unique culture in the first place, which were first built up by the Chinese in the first millenium and a half, then the French in the second half of the second millenium.

So it was basically a slapstick of Franco-Sino culture with very very little originality that gives birth to MODERN Vietnamese culture. I don't know about prehistoric tho.

As for why today Vietnam's culture are more similar to Chinese, it might be because back then a lot of people were commies (Vietnam war in '75). Commies next to commies tend to influence each other, I guess

Then we fell apart

I'm just here waiting for gov to go from socialist to capitalist / democratic

There was at least some kind of cheftain/loose kingdom in northern Vietnam, with people that spoke archaic Vietnamese, but we don't know much about it, and its culture was simply killed by Chinese culture.

Also you overestimate French influences, France left almost absolutely nothing in Vietnamese culture.

You know what? you're right

The only thing we got from them that still exists today is food

Viets are quite sensitive to china's incursions, while china is just somewhat oblivious/uncaring to vietnams suffering

Vietnam was a primitive tribal state 2000 years ago. Not much is known about original Vietnamese culture outside of a bronze drum.

China conquered Vietnam and ruled the Vietnamese people for 1000 years. The Vietnamese tried to gain independence countless times but got rekt each time.

After 1000 years, while China was fragmented and going through political turmoil, the Vietnamese finally got freedom.

Most of the Vietnamese royalty were Chinese while the peasants were natives.

The Vietnamese were good at making bamboo traps and doing jungle defense but they never developed anything culturally. Honestly even the Filipinos developed more culture than the Vietnamese.

Catholicism and the writing system? Duh.

Pretty much the only influence I have seen from France is food.

Man, why does the US pick the absolute worst places to invade. Between you guys and Afghanistan the US picked countries that have been rebelling and using guerilla tactics for literally thousands of years.

I saw one of those "How do each countries people feel about China" charts and Vietnam was at the bottom, they fucking hate them.

kek

A lot of Vietnamese cuisine stems from French influence you know...

coffee, sandwiches, etc

Every Viet I've met has been quiet, hardworking and smart.

Every Pinoy I've met has been loud, obnoxious, lazy and useless.

Why do all Vietnamese wear that conical peasant hat? It looks dumb.

Sunlight, m8. Very intense.

china has no friend

Pretty correct, although we know a few things more about ancient Vietnamese (or more correctly proto-Viet-Muongs), they followed matrilineality, they had no surname, and Văn Lang (their cheftain) was a elective monarchy.

Also only Trần and Hồ dynasties are know to be of Chinese orgin. Nobody know of Lý dynasty's first king, he was adopted in a pagoda, and the kings of Lê dynasty were mostly native, most certainly with Lê Lợi, the first king, and his heirs.
Catholics are a small minority, most people just worship ancestors.

rorke

The writing system was first developed by Portuguese missionaries.
Also the French left us with 95% illiteracy rate. They were shitty colonists who were after nothing but our natural resources and meatshield for their army.

China is Vietnam's exboyfriend.
