Is it wrong to lower your ratings for movies whose themes you disagree with? I just finished There Will Be Blood and I don't agree with the idea that money, ambition and power leads to moral bankruptcy. I've always thought the idea that a group of multimillion-dollar actors and directors making a movie about how money is bad was always hypocritical.

I've usually gone with the answer that, as long as a movie does a good job of using cinematic elements to explore and develop its themes, it doesn't really matter if you agree or disagree with the theme.

On that topic, what are some movies which portray greed as something that is good, where money actually makes someone a better person, or where someone's ambition to gain power leads them to using their power for good.

Bump

Ooops

I don't think that was what TWBB was trying to say. Plainview was always a complete sociopath and he's just an interesting character to watch use his lack of empathy to climb to the top. As for whether it's okay to lower your rating, that depends on whether it made you like the movie any less.

> tfw you have to read Elsaesser and you discover he has a myopic entry-level taste in film.

Neon Demon torrent when?

I just finished my third screenplay and entered it into a MovieBytes contest.

Now I'm going to drink myself to death and hope something happens?

letterboxd.com/Fourlok0/

Lok0 back in this bitch. I don't care about opinions anymore, just how far you're willing to go to create everyday. That's all that matters.

letterboxd.com/steakbro/

your first mistake was believing that PTA puts absolutist morals into his films

even finishing a screenplay is a pretty decent achievement. hope you do well in the contest.

I was going to use this site, but then I saw this and after laughing for a good 5 minutes I said nah...

i really don't understand how autistic you have to be to get triggered by shit like this

you're not forced to interact with it in any way

Sorry. I'm done with SJW shit. I'm done with white guilt. I'm done with androgynous, malnourished white men who feel the need to virtue signal how great they are by acknowledging their so called privilege.

okay, but by and large, you will literally never see this feature of the website in use. it's the pettiest, stupidest reason to not use the most convenient and aesthetically appealing film diary site.

I don't want to support SJW sites. SJWs need to fail in every way possible. And it's not just that they added the pronouns that makes them SJWs, its the way it's written. It is very obvious they are full blown.

>I don't want to support SJW sites
so use adblock and don't buy pro? they get nothing from you using the site.

>inb4 site traffic
you are not going to be the straw that breaks the camel's back

Yeah, I know I'm a pleb.

How was Interior Leather Bar? I'm of the opinion that Cruising is one of the most under-appreciated thrillers ever made, but was always wary of Interior because I've heard nothing but terrible things about James Franco as a director. Cautiously optimistic about his Disaster Artist adaptation

youtube.com/watch?v=ahA9S-f2Vlg

>I've heard nothing but terrible things about James Franco as a director
try actually watching some of his films before making a decision about his talent

I will when Disaster Artist comes out. I don't have much interest in straight-to-streaming Cormac McCarthy adaptations

try his direct to streaming Faulkner adaptation instead, it's great

Any 'just plain fun' movie recommendations like that of 'Guardians of the Galaxy' and 'Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl'?

we all go a little mad some times

Day 5 of my Harrison Ford marathon has concluded.

On deck:
>Mosquito Coast (1986)
>Frantic (1988)
>Presumed Innocent (1990)

Encounters of the Spooky Kind has the most problematic ending since A Boy and His Dog.

Still better than letterboxd's tranny lists and 'Edgar Wrights top 1000 films'

try naming 1000 films of your own, bithc.

Are you implying PF wasn't original?

It's an amalgamation. Even haircuts in Pulp Fiction are taken from other movies.
