No. But yes.

Probably.

The internet was not regulated then.

Yes. People weren't fearful and politically correct idiots.

hootie and the blow fish are still on tour

The 90's were the afterglow of the 80's. The 80's were great, for a great many reasons but in particular because electronic entertainment took off big time.

The internet only really kicked off at the end of the 90's, coinciding with the dot-com bubble, so it's not like the 90's were a magical fairyland of the internet. During most of the 90's, the internet were BBS's, Newsgroups and that wonderful new technology called "e-mail", which computer magazines would helpfully explain stood for "electronic mail"

80s were way better, but the 90s were cool, except towards the end as it started to lay the groundwork for the faggotry that is now.

Yeah cuz cell phone radiation hadn't infiltrated everyone's brain yet so no autists

each decade from 60s to 90s had their own style in fashion, movies and music. they all had their own spirit. nowadays everything is mixed up.

I think this is why the 90s were great. Get a burst of tech, but before the internet was in every home. The internet is what is destroying the world now.

>no austists
>browses Sup Forums

You can't read very well, can you?

The last decade with soul before we became soulless robots.

Great music. Cool fashion. Just enough tech. People still talked face to face or on the phone. The world wasn't as fucked.

I miss it
A lot

They were good times man.

I was a kid in the 80's. My first half of the 90's were amazing and super sad at the same time and what followed until today is a flat, tasteless everybody life.

It's not the decade that's important, it's where you are in your way.

end of 60's and 70's must have rocked tho. Everything comes from then.

The 90s weren't all that while in it. Obviously, the highlights of the 90s were mentioned already, and reflecting on the 90s definitely seem better than today.

My first interaction with the internet as we know it now was around 92, I was in school and there was an English kid that was way into computers, so when we went over to his place of course he would show us this wonderful technology by showing us German Shit Porn. I still remember him telling me yeah type in www.***.com, and I was WTF is that.

So in the beginning the internet was awesome, cause you could e-mail and actually get information without having to go the library or whipping out your Encyclopedia Britannica(dam wish I still had my set, leather bound, gold leaf).

The demise of people has truly been social media, it's made a generation of retards that cannot deal with true social situation. If I wanted to break up with a girl, I had to face her and tell her, and deal with all the shit that came with my decision. Now you fags just send a text or a fucking emoji and change your relationship status.

If you made plans with friends, people actually showed up and stuck to their word, all that shit is out the door now.

you're gay lolololol xD

>The demise of people has truly been social media, it's made a generation of retards that cannot deal with true social situation. >If you made plans with friends, people actually showed up and stuck to their word, all that shit is out the door now.

This.... damn.

Eh. No one had the internet.

We didn't get internet until like 2000... Even then it was on a disc.

Plus only important people had cell phones.

No social media... Ya had answering machines...

Cocaine was significantly cheaper too. Same with smack

It's harder to break up with a girl now, she has a million ways to reach u.... nobody then and now have the balls to show up at the door tho.

80s was GOAT, just ask your parents

awesome compared to nowadays,
but not so great as the 80's.
-vintage of 1968

we'll never know the opposite. braindead to everyone

>My first half of the 90's were amazing and super sad at the same time and what followed until today is a flat, tasteless everybody life.

Are you me?

>Now you fags just send a text or a fucking emoji
I wish you could break up by emoji. I guess if you have a broken heart that would work.

yeah, i remember going up to girl's front doors, knocking and that was the gamble. whoever answered you had to deal with.
the polite way was to ask if they're home and then if you can talk to them.

i wonder if this shit even happens anymore. you had to actually have balls as a kid back then, but parents were a lot more relaxed i think, especially in nice neighborhoods because people were used to kids always playing outside, not being inside on gadgets.

almost as old. music in the 90s was better and it was past cold war. the future looked great feom back then

The past always seems better because today's old were younger then, and popular culture only retains and repeats the good things while dumping and burying the mediocre shit. People are hugely biased in favor of the past. Having said that, social media has really poisoned public discourse and damaged normal social norms beyond repair.

Lets not forget:

Kurt Cobain
OJ Simpson
Unabomber
Eric Rudolph
World Trade Center bombing
Columbine

short answer: meh

If it wasn't for this decade, the 90s might have been the most shit since WWII.

Graduated in 98...the 90's was the greatest decade ever- the music, the freedom, the complete lack of political correctness- it was great.

I can remember stealing lunch trays and going sled riding the courtyard at school during winter months or just wandering the halls while eating because nobody gave a shit what you did knowing that we weren't there to sell heroin or vandalize anything and random asshats weren't going to walk into the school and start shooting. Now the entire school is on lockdown with guards and shit.

The 90's gave birth to an entire genre and style of music that will never be heard from again as most of the major talents have left us. Now the new thing is "techno" mixes that anyone with an amount of free time and no vocal talent can make. It's a shame.

jepp.
-the 80's were in the shadow of the neutron bomb and armageddon.
-music depends which artist

if you are now 16-60years old and knocking the door to ask for a girl/woman to talk to , you get asskicked.

You've just named every reason the 90's were better.

>no blm
>no sjw or feminists (or at least not that many as now)
>no mass muslim immigration and riding trucks to people
>golden age for grunge, rock, metal (fuck you 80s fags, 90s metal was the best)

Yea. It was the height of American prosperity and an overall rad-ass time.

>Now the new thing is "techno" mixes
This was also the 90s.

girls had slightly smaller boobs but bigger areolas.

The 90s were breddy good.

Everything today is just a watered down version of what we had in the 90s.

>is 15

>full retard

The best parts of the 90s had nothing to do with why the 90s are popular today. The music was largely crap with possible exception of the hardcore/punk/grunge/hiphop scene, the fashion was absolutely abhorrent and anyone who says otherwise is invariably an overweight aging nirvana fangirl who still rocks ripped sublime T-shirts at age 37.

What was prime in the 90s was the hacker/phreaker/cyberpunk sort of scene. There were legitimately places like in the movie 'hackers' where people played dank primitive 3d games with maximum AESTHETIC VALUE on big-screen projectors with thumping sound systems in dark unofficial warehouse parties, albeit lacking the Angelina Jolie factor. Analog phone switching still existed and could be exploited for maximum fun. Nobody knew what the interdick was, BBS's were still a thing, you made friends on IRC, you had a safe space for your turbonerd lust that could never be tainted by summerfags or retarded Chads because they didn't have a modem or the phone number to your cool little microcosm of the interweb.

Is that Lene Nystrom?

>World Trade Center bombing
I don't think 2001 will get a pass as still "90s" stuff.

Basically the beginning of the downfall of America there.

Sup Forums wasn't full of newfags

You wouldn't know

yes, that decade was highly experimental that opened people's mind about technology, entertainment, music, art, more than any other period. People did not live in a echo chamber, socializing and getting together was a major thing; however, every thing crashed down on 9-11. I can guarantee you that from 2001 on, everything changed drastically.

...

yes it was a lot better, there was no pc bullshit to deal with, fat people were still ashamed of being fat, there weren't 9001 genders and faggots shoving their disgusting habits in everyone's face and down everyone's throats.

people still had some common sense.

Born in 74', 86-99 were some of the best years of my life. Whole world went to shit as soon as cellphones became mainstream and 9/11 happened.

...

If those are your issues with today, your priorities are skewed and one of the reasons America sucks today. You're being distracted.

Lol I love how everyone wants to jump on the band wagon to hate these people, while corporate oligarchs are running the country into the ground for higher profits. But yeah... sjws are the greatest threat to our society.

>however, every thing crashed down on 9-11. I can guarantee you that from 2001 on, everything changed drastically.
I think I agree with this.
It seems like everything got really fucked after 9-11. Everything seemed shittier, more restrictive, less happy, less social.
I was only in middle school when 9-11 happened. But fuck, you're right. It seemed like everything really started to suck after that.

Fucking idiot. Life itself was much better than anything the goddamn internet has to offer. The internet in your hand all the fucking time has DESTROYED EVERYTHING. Just this morning i saw a family walking single file down the sidewalk. the mom the dad and the kid were all staring directly at their phones as they walked. Together but nowhere near each other. smart phones have destroyed society as it was and the isolation is going to ruin all life on earth in 15 years time. fuck off with your fucking digital addictions your fucking nerdmonger. life was so much fucking better when we talked face to face and sat on the front porch and ate apples together that we cut pieces off with our pocket knives and grandma told us stories and gossip. FUCK THE INTERNET LIFESTYLE.
>I hate it.
>i hate everyone that loves this soulless lifestyle.
>i hope you all develop cankersores and your asses grow into the fabric of your goddamn gaming chairs.

>FUCK YOU

Yup. I was either stoned to the bejesus or drunj as hell the entire decde and still made a shit ton of money. The internet was in its halcyon days and social media was not the center of our existence. Gibson and Fender were making quality guitars and grunge felt new and exciting.

>tfw you lived your teen years in the full-boom of 90s culture

It was probably the last era that had its own identity. Everything since then has been rehash/reboot/repackage.

It's why I simultaneously feel contempt yet pity for Millennials, since pretty much everything they think is so "uberkewl" in their pop culture is just recycled, regurgitated shit from the 60s/70s/80s/90s. Even thier "muh hedonism/muh No God" shit is nothing new.

>while corporate oligarchs are running the country into the ground for higher profits
Can you not shill like a socialist cuck for at least 3 minutes of your life?

This is why she left you for Chad Thundercock, Sup Forumsro. You wouldn't shut the fuck up about this shit.

The 90s tried way too hard to be the 60s part II. The 60s were great and all, but there was way too much missed opportunity in cashing in on all that social revolution, plus it wasn't controlled by the right people. The 90s was meant to fix those flaws, and we'll the decade ultimately sucked because of it.

There was PC bullshit even back then just not as bad as now. I remember people taking about what to call black people, this is when they started getting called African American. Also Filipinos started getting called dark nips.

Yes,the world made sense then.

80s were better in every way.

not really artist specific. I dislike that electronic pop, that made up mainstream 80s music and new wave also. rock and metal were pretty much continuous from the 70s and while there was some new stuff, that was called indie of which there seemed to be more in the 90s. Also grunge was something new.

But to name one outstanding musical memory: I'll never forget Third Eye Blind debut record.

...

it was alright. better than any decade since. 80s kid here.

You really have no clue what the word shill means, do you?

If you're complaining about SJWs, while being completely fine with the state of Congress and our economic market, you're a retard.

that or police shoots you and everyone's dog within a 200 yard radius to death.

There 90's had some of the best animated TV shows. The music was "meh" and nobody have a shit about race.

That being said, there 80's was the peek of the human race.

>fuck the Internet lifestyle
>on Sup Forums....

>60 years old

Dude people only did this when they were kids.

No one that was over the age of 20 was knocking on doors to ask someone on a date.

Aside from health advancements, the 80s and 90s were better in every way.

>The internet is what is destroying the world now
You are so right

Exactly. For example people always complain about how Hollywood just keeps remaking movies and making big brainless summer blockbusters but if you watch "the critic" the show complains about the exact same bullshit.

This was only true up to a point when talking about the pop culture of the last century of so. Every era before like 2000 had it's own distinct flavor. The mess that came afterwards has been nothing but a lazy reboot culture, fueled by the junkfood tabloid nature of the internet, on which everyone is hopelessly plugged into.

I don't look back fondly on any of my parent's "eras" with any degree of fondness, but I sure as hell recognize they truly had their own thing/style/etc. going.

Racial tensions were high in the 90s.

Just because you weren't privy to it does not mean it wasn't there. 92 was the year of the LA riots, sparked by the beating of Rodney king being filmed, and the police who did it got no punishment. Shit was rough for black people, and still is.

92' was the year I turned 18, good times.

this.
When you're in the time, everything is just noise, people do the same old shit in every decade only the stuff that stands out is remembered, but people rarely remember the boring shit stuff that happened in the decade they grew up. Rose tinted glasses are real.

>the police who did it
>officer coon
>officer nigger-hater
>officer keep-darkie-down

>Every era before like 2000 had it's own distinct flavor
No they didn't. You're oversimplifying and relying too much on dramatization and third hand recollections. Things are more complicated than that.

>Was anyting really that _____?
Fucking god I hate this mindset,
QUESTION EVERYTHING AND FIND OUT THAT NOTHING IS GOOD. WELL I SURE AM GLAD I QUESTIONED IT AND NOW HAVE A SUPERIOR VIEWPOINT THAT EVERYTHING IS SHIT. I'LL JUST SIT AND SMUGLY BE UNHAPPY NOW THAT I'VE DISILLUSIONED MYSELF WITH EVERYTHING.

Just go kill yourself.

The "90's" era actually ended some time in early 1999. Can't really explain it. You just had to be there. There was a definite shift that was felt, particularly in music, when all the innovation of the decade was suddenly overtaken with a boom of bubblegum pop and the dawn of "numetal." Between that time and 9/11 the world was already becoming different. 9/11 just tipped everything down the shithole.

you can make the same argument about cars, in the last 60 years they helped creating suburbia with gated community which isolated people physically and psychologically from the rest of the world. And what people in the suburb do all day: discharge their firearms, watch TV all day, drive to the closest grease-pit to get fat, while at the same overdosing on antidepressant to fight their own depression born out of this isolation.
Internet and smartphone are just a consequence of this isolation in order to reach people away from urban centers. If you consume trash over the internet it's just as bad as reading tabloid papers.

Nah Sup Forumsro. Early internet was baller.
BBSs were the shit, and early sites like Totse terrorized the world without recourse (go look up Jenkem on ED).

Shit was the golden age, the wild west.

man I do miss those days of beating random black guys on live tv

>
Oh yeah they did, 70-80-90 all had a different vibe, be it social or technological, even the entertainment from those decades each had its own style and flavor.

Yes. No.. I don't know. Can you repeat the question?

My fondest memories of the 90's was spending 80% of my time outdoors, cruising around, having bush parties/bonfires, enjoying life.

Now it's just zombies staring at phones and complaining if there's no service.

>If you're complaining about SJWs, while being completely fine with the state of Congress and our economic market, you're a retard.
You're:
A. Projecting
B. Putting words in my mouth
C. Triggered

Stop being a socialist cuck and earn something for once in your pathetic life.

This, it's too true.

Having the internet everywhere we go and people being constantly plugged into each other all the time is just too much power for the average person. They don't know how to use it responsibly. Now people use it to essentially constantly access only the pleasantries they like and put blinders on to everything they don't like.

Bored in a room full of people?
>Get on your phone and talk to Facebook and Twitter friends that are also bored surrounded by others

Sitting next to a stranger?
>Get on your phone and ignore them so it's not awkward

Spending time with your family but you'd rather be with your friends?
>Your phone can solve That!

Sheesh, the future is getting worse.

Not at all. It's why you can say things like

>60's fashion
>70's fashion
>80's fashion
>90's fashion

And each thing conjures up a very distinct look in one's mind. Same thing with the music of each time. Everything afterwards has been nothing but a hodepodge mashup and reboot of those previous 50 or so years. Each previous era had its own soul and style. The last almost 2 decades has been a soulless repackaging of better times.

when you look back, yes, when you're actually there, no.

subject

>a soulless repackaging of better times
The past 20 years of film in a nutshell.

90s...

It was the last decade of innocence for many...before 9/11. At the start of the 90's there was Glasnost, the Berlin wall had just come down, the USSR was breaking apart and seemed to be moving away from the Communist dictatorship model of government. The Cold War was essentially over, and many breathed a sigh of relief. Bad things happened, but not on the same scale as what came after the 90s.

Wrong.

Well said
